The service is usually slow, but the fries are notably good and the rest of the food is pretty decent as well. It’s a pretty reliable place for lunch or dinner if you’re in the area.

Stepping into Clark’s is like stepping back in time — it’s an old Greek diner that probably hasn’t updated its décor or menu in decades — and that’s what’s nice about it. Clark’s is close to where I work and live, and it’s a great stop for lunch, ice cream, or grabbing a pizza to take home. I like the simple diner menu of classic sandwiches, soups, salads, fried food, and Greek specialties, and I appreciate that in a land where thin crust New Haven apizza is expected, Clark’s makes an actual Greek pie. It’s become one of my first choices for takeout pizza because the thicker crust holds well through the trip home, and sometimes I just want a pan pizza covered in lots of cheese and toppings. Today I stopped in for lunch and got a cheeseburger with fries and a milkshake. It was perfect comfort food, and I liked that the fries were shoestring. Clark’s serves Hershey’s ice cream, so there’s always a good variety of flavors, and you know what to expect. The milkshakes are decent, but I would prefer even the extra thick milkshake to be a little thicker. The staff was friendly enough, and we got our food pretty quickly.

We tried the vegetation pizza. They put a lot of cheese and the pizza was very soft. The big size was enough for even 4 people. Carrot cake was very sweet…

Clean and prompt courteous service(although the waitress asked if all was well when we finished our meal(rather than halfway thru it, so if there were any issues they could be addressed in a timely fashion)). Lost a star mainly cause they served the lobster roll on a slice of white bread, not a roll.

Cozy family restaurant with friendly service and pretty good food for a great price. I came in late on a weekend night for a tasty, comforting and generously portioned chicken pot pie. The hostess/waitress came over immediately when she noticed I was ready to order and later to pay. I also watched her help one elderly gentleman arrange a taxi home so he wouldn’t have to wait in the cold, and ask two gentlemen who came in just before closing if she could get them anything to take out.

This place has dropped from my favorites. As a student in the Haven I loved the dairy and restaurant. I was disappointed in this visit. The food was ok, the service was mediocre and the value was poor. The only saving grace for Clark’s is that the ice cream is still fantastic. We went in for an after church lunch and we were one of 3 parties. We waited quite while to be taken care of and the food that came out wasn’t the quality I expected. I am disappointed in having to write a review for this establishment that’s not stellar.

This is the kind of place you come to when you’re just looking for old diner nostalgia. There is really nothing that stands out, not even the Greek specialties, but it’s decent. Keep coming here occasionally after 30 years. Not a destination, but ok for a casual drop in.

Love it. OK, it’s not GREAT, but it’s always been good or better for everyone in the family. We always seem to find something we like, which is WAY better than the times we go out and we can’t agree on a place or we settle on a place and half of us are not happy.

Greasy food and nothing seems to be prepared or thought out with care. Even the ice cream is not that good, but has enough costumers because it’s the only option around.

Eating here you have the nice comfortable feeling that you’re not surrounded by idiots. Because anyone who walks in here is looking for a simple, unpretentious good deal. Or they walk back out. I had one of New Haven’s best chicken parms here — hot, simple, garlicky sauce, crisp, fresh chicken, the right amount of mozzarella all on nice toasty roll. It is big enough for two meals. Since it’s a Greek place, I personally wouldn’t get pizza. And because I don’t like fries, I don’t get the fries.

It’s a diner, plain and simple. It’s conveniently located and they have a good variety on their menu. The ice cream stands out in a good way and it tastes more«real» and homemade than most other local places.

Before I leave New Haven, I want to give some credit to this place. It is a good option within walking distance. They have great eggplant lasagna and ice cream. My fiancé and I come here often.

no frills. quaint, new haven place that a lot of students don’t go to. that’s the only reason why i like it, but can’t say anything positive about the food.

Your two humble bloggers have driven past Clark’s Dairy for years. Clark’s stands on the corner of Church and Trumbull, most notable for two neighboring Asian markets and young business upstarts Subway and Dunkin’ Donuts. We vowed to visit intrigued by the unknown. With the wind mild and our hunger level high, we walked with a fellow conspirator to nestle in for a luncheon or snack. Unfamiliar as we were with Clark’s Dairy, we strolled in the door of its neighbor: Clark’s Pizza and Restaurant. Nothing about Clark’s Pizza Restaurant can be considered cool. It is located in a part of the downtown area so far removed from the glitz and glamour of Crown Street; it might as well be Wallingford. The waitresses are attentive, but unattractive; the clientele consists of quiet inconspicuous people. There are no blue-tooths, mini-skirts, Nike shoes, or the designer labels of Chapel street. This is not a place to go to be seen or to see anything of any interest or importance. This is a place to eat. Clark’s immediately stands out for its retro décor. Not because the general manager thinks retro is cool, or will gain a clientele based on kitsch, but because the original vinyl booths are just as comfortable now as when the first diners sat in them. The walls at Clark’s are covered in framed pictures of the Beatles, the Kennedy’s at Hyannisport, and a velvet Elvis Presley. Ringo’s eyes are doeish and soulful. Again, this is not contrived mid-century Americana like a Johnny Rockets, but at one time, the staff really did believe that Elvis was the king of rock ‘n’ roll. The menu is similar to a diner– you have subs, omelette’s, burgers, and fries: The latter two being the building blocks for American cuisine. The food is out of this world. Simple American dishes done right. The tuna salad of the tuna melt could not be contained in the toast requiring a fork to eat it all. When was the last time your local Greek joint gave you that much tuna salad in your sandwich? The split pea soup was thick and flavorful, a real relief for a windy afternoon. The grilled cheese with bacon and tomato, simply the best we have ever had. The perfectly cooked tomato added a marinara quality to the sandwich; the tomato juice picking up the salty flavor of the bacon. However, with much regret, we report that the French fries are not recommended. Not in a health watch sense of the word recommend either. Clearly, you should be eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially those damned brussel sprouts. French fries are the cigarettes of the food world. They look cool, especially in black and white movies, but have only led fools to an untimely death. These French fries were golden but tasted like Gordon’s Fish Sticks. We looked for a bearded man in a slicker in the kitchen but none were found. The deal breaker of this cuisine rests on the milkshake. Clark’s is bountiful in shake goodness. Some places will only hand you a glass, keeping the excess shake for themselves. Clark’s blesses you with a silver chalice; two milkshakes for the price of one. Although a little heavy on the chocolate syrup, the shake hits the desired spot and snuggles gloriously in the belly. If you are anywhere in the area you must go to Clark’s for lunch. Clark’s serves American comfort food to people who understand the importance of a tasty and hardy lunch. It serves people in need of a little comfort and who amongst us isn’t?

We came here late at night not expectig much but we were pleasantly surprised! The pitas we ordered(chicken and tuna) were delicious and fresh. We will be goin here a lot. The ambiance isn’t so great but its a fun place for late night or breakfast diner food.

The burger here was really bad — tough, flavorless hockey puck of beef. I did have a decent gyro another time, though. And the service is sweet and homey.

I was only in here a couple times, the diner-style Clark’s next door was more my scene. I had the fried chicken a couple times and it was always pretty tasty.

When I used to work at Yale this was one of my favorite places for lunch. The pizza and sandwiches are pretty good, and the salads are tasty and generous. Unpretentious, casual, comfortable. The staff is really friendly too, and fast, especially for take-out!
