The barista who made mine and my friend’s chai tea latte this evening(6PM, 2÷26÷16) was extremely rude to us. She gave no indication that she was finished making our lattes, so my friend and I lingered around the coffee making area waiting for her to finish. At the York street blue state the baristas will cap the drink for you, so because this particular barista didn’t, I didn’t realize our lattes were finished. She left for about 5 minutes without telling us that she finished our lattes. When she returned, she rudely told us that our lattes were done. Because she made the lattes simultaneously it was impossible to tell which latte was earl grey tea latte(my friend’s) and which one was the jasmine tea latte(mine). My friendly merely picked up a latte and patiently asked her«which latte is this?» to which this rude barista told her in an annoyed, bitter tone that the one she was holding was hers. Who does this barista think she is? Never returning to this blue state on wall ever again and I will tell all my friends not to patronize this place anymore. You need to work on your customer service and not hire bitchy baristas. I literally never post reviews on Unilocal but I’m so offended that this barista would treat us like this that I’m posting this review. She ruined our entire night.

Went in for a quick cup of espresso with some family. Great coffee! My brother got a danish to eat and that came with no complaints. Staff was friendly and attentive also. Plenty of seating(was not too busy when we were there).

Cute little coffee shop by campus. I shared a turkey breast sandwich and it was pretty good. The latte was good too.

Very nice service, a great place to study or catch up with friends. We came to check out the campus and on a cold day, a late was just what I needed. Great flavor, even the chocolate chip cookie was tasty.

Cool little coffee spot near Yale campus. Actually, not that little. In fact, it’s huge. It’s two storefronts(maybe three) as well as a backyard with benches that actually may or may be part of their property. Lots of room for people to do their studying or homework in peace. I got their traditional roast, which was good and came in a very large cup. Kept me charged up for the rest of the day.

Great service and great coffee. Blue State Coffee is always strong and delicious. Also their iced chai’s are to die for. I highly recommend them in the summer. Note that when yale is in session is is terribly difficult to find a place to sit and drink during the weekend at any time.

Just a really good coffee shop that gives back to the community. Coffee and specially drinks are delicious and the baristas are very uppity and personable. Great way to start your day! It gets super crowded in here so come when it opens or when it’s close to closing time if you want to get a seat to work.

I like the atmosphere and coffee. Conveniently locate in the Yale campus. I was there Sat afternoon and the line was long! Wait for 15 mins or so.

The lattes are delicious, the staff is personable and happy to be there, and it just has a great atmosphere for a morning coffee and a bite to eat, or for talking or studying with friends. I also recommend getting the egg sandwich with croissant and ham– gives you a good breakfast and pairs well with a latte or coffee. It also feels great to give business to a company that supports local charities.

I stopped by here because I’ve heard such great things. I was a bit disappointed. There are many other coffee shops which are just about the same, this place doesn’t stand out. Coffee was OK, but I will say that the bagel was amazing! The location isn’t really ideal unless you’re in the area and can walk over. Parking was a real hassle and metered, I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here unless I was in the area.

Awesome coffee and workers. If you buy a bag of coffee beans you get any drink you want for free!

Baristas were kind and prompt. The atmosphere was satisfactory– a good combination of people chatting and background music. Not my usual super-hip-feeling coffee shop, but nice and clean. The iced chai latte was fantastic!!! Perfect blend of sweet, creamy, and spicy! Will be back for the chai! The ranch BLT was aiight, but I probably won’t do food here again.

Lovely little coffee shops. While exploring Yale, I got to check this little place out. There are two rooms where you can work at smaller tables or there are some comfy seats. I had a yummy coffee and the service was great! The barista was very friendly and made me feel welcome. I felt it was definitely a place where the ambience is still pretty calm and you can do your homework, but you don’t feel the hustle and bustle like other coffeeshops(where it becomes too overwhelming). I liked the décor around and everything was awesome. I had a nice time checking this place out.

Stopped by on a Saturday in the early afternoon. Metered parking across the street was easy to find. The staff was great — friendly, in good spirits, laid back. The latte I ordered took a few minutes to prepare, but it was worth the wait. The interior was spacious with ample tables for everyone. Free wi-fi allowed me to check my email and work remotely for a bit. The ambiance also had a cool energy to it. Looking around, it was clear that other patrons were enjoying this place. In the background, lesser known tracks of Jimi Hendrix and other classic-rock artists played, all just loud enough to enjoy. The choice of music seemed fitting, given the next-door neighbor — Toad’s Place. Would recommend to anyone in the New Haven area with a few hours to kill. Definitely not your Starbucks shop.

I got a little lost in the wrong parts of New Haven last week and wooo so glad I Unilocaled Blue State Coffee. I had a couple hours left to kill and I wanted a nice [safe] cofee place to go to and Blue State was perfect! There were plenty of tables in this surprisingly huge coffee shop, and I was able to grab a nice table by the window with no problem. The place stays pretty quiet, considering how many tables and customers they have. They have plenty of outlets and wifi, which is always a plus! The latte I got was great — I had a couple of different sizes to choose from so I got the 12oz to be safe. It was delicious! The latte really hit the spot — rich and flavorful without being too overwhelming. I was almost tempted to get another one if I didn’t have dinner plans for later. I will definitlely come back again anytime I wander through New Haven again. Heck, I’d even make a trip out there to study all day at Blue State. Thankfully, I know where to go this time! Not sure if theres any parking nearby, but I parked right in front on the street and ran out every 2 hours to reload my meter. It worked!

When I travel I seek out what look to be the best coffee shops in the area. My search in and around New Have led me to Blue State Coffee. They have two shops in downtown New Haven, both located amidst the Yale University campus area. I visited both of them. The staff was friendly and the place had a nice atmosphere. The shop offered a good selection of baked goods. The espresso was excellent.

On Sunday I joined a beloved friend and her baby for coffee at Blue State on Wall St. When I entered the café I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was an abundance of available seating, so we took seats around a little table. The setting was pleasant, the café was clean and well attended to, and the noise level was excellent for a nice conversation. I ordered a café au lait and an espresso, which were made quickly by cheerful staff members. The espresso was excellent; it was rich, with great acidity, and fabulous crema. The café au lait was made well, albeit it could have been prepared a little hotter. The setting, staff, and coffee were all good at Blue State. Verdict: Will return for espresso

Super fast service which is good because it can get really busy around noon. But, there are plenty of places to sit. It’s unlikely that you won’t find a seat. As a plus, the workers are super friendly and nice. I love their payment system. They turn the screen towards you and you have an option to add a tip either 10%, 20% or 30%. It’s a nice way to ensure the workers are receiving tips– I think these workers deserve it! The drip-coffee system is super funky. And the hot chocolate… amazing! It’s not overly sweet and the top is silky and frothy which is a nice touch. Plenty of cookies/brownies/pastries. Great atmosphere, great hot chocolate!

Blue State is pretty standard, but nothing more. The coffee’s ok, but often burnt. On the plus side, the food menu’s very impressive so you could happily get lunch here. On the negative side, the lines are VERYLONG. You will likely see many people leaving without coffee after already waiting for 10 minutes, so this isn’t the place to grab a quick coffee to go. Similarly, it’s often very busy. They have a lot of tables, but these are often taken, with a line of people waiting for a new table to clear. This is mostly because of its location to the university’s law school, among others. So overall, not bad, but nothing to write home about.

Great coffee spot on a quiet alley near campus. Nice staff, cool donation system, Square payments and plenty of seating. Tasty breakfast items as well. My only qualm is that the service is kinda slow. Slow, but friendly, so be patient with the food items. Other than that, this is a great coffee spot.
