It’s the chipotle of the Indian food world. Delicious food. Clean atmosphere. Friendly staff. Unique to the locale.

Definitely an Indian chipotle.
For downtown New Brunswick, you definitely can’t find Indian food elsewhere, which makes this a feasible option. It’s also fast. Just go on line and order what you want in your bowl and take a seat.
Service is really good and the workers were extremely friendly. There’s just something about the food taste that is slightly lacking. I’ve had a lot of indian food before, and for some reason their tikka masala just doesn’t make my mouth water like other places I’ve had. Still pretty good though.

I was the most excited person in New Brunswick when this restaurant opened. Nb has seen 3 Indian restaurants close down in last 2 years. Hence I was rooting for their success, unfortunately after trying over 5 times, I’m not impressed with food. The chipotle concept is great but individual items are stale and not fresh. It seems old food has been sitting along for a week. food isn’t hot either! And taste is below average. I really hope they revamp their menu and come up with fresh items. On the positive side, place is clean and staff is great! Good luck Chapati House!

One of my all-​time favorite places to eat in New Brunswick! I could eat it daily. The staff are super friendly and always recognize us, especially my 10 month old daughter. My fav is the Chapati Roll with pickled paneer with tons of toppings but I think we’ve tried them all and they’re all amazingly delish. Thanks for all the yummy grub!

While the food is really good and it’s always clean, the service has really gone down hill. The guy who made my food was so unhelpful. He didn’t ask what type of rice I wanted and automatically used white. I would ask what a certain item was, and he would just repeat the name of it back to me and then put it in my dish without me saying I wanted it. He seemed so annoyed that we were even there and was rushing us out.
I really really like the food, and the service used to be so friendly, so hopefully it goes back the happy standard.

Lots of choices! Food is spectacular, especially the Tikka masala!
Super treat to have the option of it being served on lettuce.
The chapati was perfect. hot and fresh.

It is cheap place but the quality of food is not great.

Excellent place if you crave for indian food. I had bhel puri today which had the authentic flavor of Bombay. This is a must try. But the quantity seems a little less for $ 4.75. But it’s not a big drawback!
Last month I had the rice bowl with chicken tikka masala and chicken vandaloo. I really loved this place. But I prefer other chicken dishes to tikka masala here. Chicken makhni might be a great option. The place and the people make you feel welcome:)

Really delicious food and good variety. Tastes fresh and the guys who work here are very nice. Would definitely come here often if I lived near by.

So this a new concept… «Chipotle-​style» Indian good. Most Indian food establishments are a sit-​down, made-​to-​order places, but this place offers you the convenience of ready-​made, to go Indian food. The food was actually pretty good, although on the milder side. They do offer some good tasting chili powder on the side which really amped up the spice level. The basmati rice was well cooked, and they do offer brown rice as well, but that’s usually not the rice you eat with your Indian food. I know a lot of people a lot of people love naan, but they don’t offer it, instead the offer rotis, which are an Indian staple and are healthier but this not as tasty. Overall, an interesting concept and decent execution. Great for when your craving Indian food on either a time crunch or budget friendly manner.

I liked this place. It opened at the end of last academic year. I especially appreciate the décor, since a lot of places in this area don’t have that. There’s a great mural and the furniture is good quality. There’s an upper level seating area as well.
The food is good, great flavors. Though it kind of all blends in together the way they toss it in there. They don’t do a great job of explaining what everything is, so you tend to just get what you know and maybe try one new thing. I like that there are several choices.

After seeing numerous advertisements all over Rutgers, I had the heart to check out Chapati House, but then hearing extremely bad reviews from my one friend, I was reluctant to try it. Soon, my other friends made plans to eat here, so I went along with the plan. I was very happy that I gave this place a chance. And myself a chance because I loved it!
It’s basically Chipotle– style as many has described it, which is a perfect and successful concept because it’s easy and simple, and it gives you the options to try a variety of food! I got the rice bowl with two sides. One of the sides was chicken tikki masala, and it was delish! The sauce definitely hit the spot! The chicken was also very tender and flavorful.
Another aspect that most fast food restaurants don’t have is that customer to server interaction, but what really stood out at Chapati House was that the servers made an effort to talk and communicate to their customers in a very friendly and fun way. Because many food items are in an unfamiliar term, I would say the English description underneath, but the server would say the Indian word and try to teach me! That’s pretty dope!
The minimum credit card amount is $ 10, so remember to bring cash or buy a drink along with your meal, which usually sums up to ~$ 10. I got a mango lassi, which complemented well with my spicy yet flavorful rice bowl!

First time trying Indian food and I was definitely not disappointed. We ordered the rice bowls yesterday and it came with tons of veggies. The portion sizes are also huge! And the delivery did not take more than 30 min.
Im only bumping it down a star bc it took me forever to place the order. They kept putting me on hold to help other customers.

I went to Chapati House for the first time last Tuesday and I am OBSESSED. Central Jersey, which has several sit-​down Indian restaurants or very casual Indian fast-​food vendors, has been missing a middle-​ground food joint like this and the void has finally been filled. When you first walk in, you see industrial-​inspired décor and furniture, making Chapati House seem like one of the more hipster-​looking restaurants that you only typically find in the city. The place has both large and small tables on both the upstairs and main levels — providing ample seating space for all group sizes or individuals.
As you approach the ordering area, you’ll see that Chapati House is the Chipotle of Indian food, offering what looks like Indian burritos (served in chapatis instead of tortillas of course), rice bowls, salad bowls, and other Indian sides. My group ordered the Pickled Paneer Bombay Frankie, the Chicken Makhni Bombay Frankie, Samosa Chaat, and Papri Chaat. The Frankies were made with chapati’s that Chapati House makes fresh in its DoughXpress machine. All of our food was delicious, and the portions were generous for the prices. To make the experience even more enjoyable, Chapati House provides free fresh lemonade, which has Indian spices to give it quite the kick.
In addition to the food and the atmosphere, the service was amazing. The staff continuously checked up on us and were incredibly friendly. I look forward to returning to this place and hope to try one of their rice bowls next time! Highly recommend you stop by here (:

I came here for lunch yesterday and was immediately greeted with the familiar and entrancing aroma of a good indian restaurant. I was so into the displayed foods that I totally missed the very easy to understand sign up on the wall explaining an easy way to order. The set up is similar to what you might find at Chipotle in terms of walking along the glass partition and selecting what to put in your bowl, wrap, whatever. The server was still super friendly about it and didn’t rush me like, which I appreciated. I got a basmati rice bowl with chicken tikka masala and bharta, along with beets and onions, and yogurt coriander and green chile sauce, all for about $ 8.50 after tax.
The flavors! The flavors were absolutely fantastic, disctinct, fresh, the spiciness I yearn for, and the tenderness I’m often without. I once cut my tongue, yes CUT, on a dry ass piece of chipotle chicken. The chicken in the tikka masala was great. I’m super excited for this affordable and tasty lunch option.
They also have popular Indian drinks for sale like «Thumbs Up,» if you’re into that.

I actually never had Indian food until today. First walking in, I thought the place is pretty hip with Indian’s art on their wall. They are setup like Chipotle. Customer get to choose from white basmati rice, brown rice, roti etc. Then we pick two sides from their selections and then we can add varieties of toppings: sweet corn, onions, lettuce, pickled radish etc. Totally a copy of Chipotle’s concept.
I had the basmati rice bowl with lamb and chicken curry. It didn’t disappoint! The lamb and the chicken curry were good and the spices were not too strong. It’s pretty mild and acceptable to my taste buds. They have sauces also on the tables which are really adding some great kicks.
Overall it’s pretty good. Definitely will go back to try some other selections that they have.

This place is pretty cool: nice décor, friendly employees, and above average food. I have a lot of Indian friends so I have slightly higher expectations for Indian food. I have eaten many home cooked meals from their families.
Chapati House is Chipotle-​style so you can select either a rice/​salad bowl or chapati, which is a flat bread, and then add the toppings you want. I got a rice bowl with white rice, pickled paneer, chicken tikka masala, and various other toppings that I cannot remember right now. It was delicious! It was a good portion for the price and did not taste totally inauthentic.
Tip: Expect to walk out smelling like Indian food!

Short and sweet:
Maybe not true Indian but as at least the cleanest freshest Indian takeout around.
Perfect arrangements to balance protein and veggies.
Forgo the spicy and enjoy a balanced meal.
From the start you can pick a salad with a protein and honestly what chipotle lacks.

And man these guys courteous

I came here because my sister told me that they sell Papari Chaat which is a popular snack that I have been eating since I was a child. It’s a snack that has various vegetables mixed together (chick peas, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, etc) along with papari (a crunchy fried dough) topped with yogurt (mixed with milk & water that is beat so that its consistency is the same), a spicy green sauce, and a sweet sauce.
When I got my dish, it didn’t even look like traditional Papari Chaat. The people who made it mixed everything together so that all the sauces were mixed thoroughly together and was spread on every inch of the contents. They even broke the papari in small pieces. Looking at the final product, I asked for extra yogurt because it would make your mouth a bit dry if constantly eaten (not in the case for true Papari Chaat). But it didn’t help much. All in all it was a disappointment. I would rather drive a half hour for real Papari Chaat for much cheaper in the brown part of Edison (Iselin, NJ).

Seldom bother to write a review but this place has delicious food and so its deserving. Its not just the food but the staff here super corteous and the ambiance very cool and upbeat. Again, in case you missed it, delicious food here!
For the record, had a rice bowl with basmati rice, pickled paneer, aloo gobhi bhaji and the bhartha.
