Velocity In the Gulch

Decent apartment building with solid amenities and a great location. The gym is pretty good, and the complimentary coffee bar is a plus when you’re out of your own k-​cups.
Velocity is the oldest apartment complex in the Gulch, however, and starting to show its age. Hallway carpets need to be replaced, and the rooms could use an overhaul. Generally speaking, the layouts are very well designed and make great use of space. My only major gripe after just having moved in this week is the chinsy glass cabinetry, it rattles a little when I close the doors.
Overall, I’m pleased with the apartment, but annoyed that I’m paying $ 1,700 for a mid-​grade 1 bedroom.

Despite its name, this is not some awful club filled with douchebags. Though I’m sure every place has some of those.
The velocity is a state of the art complex, offering lots of amenities and services to those who live there.
The apartments have high ceilings and nice tiled floors. The walls are concrete and keep out the sound from your neighbors next door. Most views provide nice scenic views of the Gulch.
Out side of your apartment you can take advantage of several things offered. They have a lounge with television, for those of you living off your NetFlix. There is a basic gym; if you’re looking for something simple, it’ll do the job. There is some outdoor seating to take advantage of on a nice day.
On the downside, some apartments are right next to the train tracks. While there are thick walls between apartments, you can easily hear people above you. And your key card may go on the fritz at times.
Still, if you’re looking for a complex to get into in The Gulch, Velocity is a great option.

Our experience here has been great!
A lot of the complaints I’ve read on here have been pretty generic and applicable to any apartment complex I’ve ever lived in, or considered living in.
We love living in the gulch and have had nothing but pleasant experiences with management.
Parking is easy, convenient and plentiful (you won’t have trouble finding a spot).
Neighbors are respectful and kind.
Pet owners are mostly responsible.
Quality of the units, appliances, etc is very good!
I really can’t think of a bad thing to say about velocity!

I am rating this company based on the customer service I received during a tour as a potential resident. Our appointment was at 2:45 and we arrived at 2:52 after literally having to hunt for the tiny door on a side street which Google maps will not navigate you to. When we finally made it in 7 minutes late, Shawna, our leasing agent asked us what we are interested in. We said 1 and 2 bedrooms and am open to seeing everything that is available to see. Now 2:55 pm, Shawna sarcastically said «well let’s see what I can show you in 5 minutes, my next appointment is at 3.» The tour was literally 5 minutes long and I know I won’t be back to sign a lease because I don’t want to deal with a company like that again, let alone long term. The last two communities we toured with took 1.5 hours and showed us everything and answered all of our questions. If you like a thorough tour or good customer service, steer clear of this community.

Great location, very clean place with a rooftop terrace and solid fitness room. Lots of food, drinks, and shopping nearby. Noise from floor above is sometimes an issue. Would have really appreciated a pool on-​site

I’ve been living in The Velocity In The Gulch since July 1^st and it is now December. I relocated from Denver and rented an apartment sight unseen, based only on pictures sent to me by my leasing agent, Jenny. I have not been disappointed. I LOVE living here. Jenny, Jennifer, Shauna and all the maintenance staff are awesome. The apartment lofts are great — exactly what I was looking for. I don’t hear a peep from my neighbors on either side of me and the few times I’ve had minor maintenance requests, Joseph came to my apartment immediately. It is so convenient living here too because its within walking distance to many restaurants, downtown, etc. The only complaint I have is toward the inconsiderate pet owners that don’t pick up after their pets! That said, I highly recommend living here.

I love living here! not just because of the nice fixtures and everything is new and beautiful, but it is home and the management team, Jenny and Shauna have done a great job building a community! i am never leaving

I don’t know why this place is getting such bad reviews. I love it. The staff is super friendly and goes above and beyond for me. Jenny is wonderful! I haven’t had one noise problem or heard anything above me since I’ve been here since August and it’s now December. The gym is okay — but not something id use all the time. I go to a different one even though I have one here. Do wish we had a pool but oh well.

I have never written a review before, but this calls for one. Please, whatever you do, do NOT move here. I was new to Nashville and had to find a place within a week before I started my job, and it was a great location and everything looked nice. Biggest mistake of my life. I have lived in small towns all the way to New York City and I have NEVER lived in a place with such a bad management problem.
At move in day I noticed ants. A lot of them on the kitchen counter. I immediately called to get that taken care of, someone came to spray that week. However, they never went away. So I emailed about three times with no response (I work during their office hours so usually stuck to email) and when I finally got a response they said sorry but the person had just come to spray apartments so I missed my chance for the month. I then had to wait 30 days where I couldn’t even leave cookies wrapped in foil on the counter because the ants would attack. Someone came to spray again, problem only got worse. 3 more emails, no response. FINALLY someone came 5 months after I moved in and the problem was solved.
Parking — basically, you’re in prison. You have to drive up 2 stories just to be allowed to park as a resident (no running in the front door to grab something quickly). You also can’t have visitors. Period. I have a co-​sign on the lease but they told me for a one bedroom even if two people were on the lease they wouldn’t give me two swipes to get into the parking. So I guess if you’re a married couple in a one bedroom you can only have one car, good luck.
They decided to pressure watch the parking garage. Their emails were extremely confusing about which floor you could and couldn’t park in. I parked on the same level as about 50 – 60 other cars thinking I would be fine that night. Came out in the morning for work and ALL the cars were gone. I had to pay $ 250 because my car had been towed and asked the towing company how many cars were towed that day. They said about 50. I’m sorry, but can 50 people make the same mistake? Nope, but you still had to pay $ 250 on top of the ungodly rent they make you pay.
Finally I get to leave after a year. I sent an email giving more than 60 days notice that I was leaving and told them to let me know if anything needed to be done. They conveniently ignored my emails until the 60 day notice had passed and then told me I needed to turn something in hand written and I would be charged for the overage (have to pay 2 extra weeks of rent). I forwarded them my original email giving notice well before 60 days and they won’t accept it — even though they chose to ignore it. Now, I have to pay an extra $ 400 because they ignored my emails. I tried to call and discuss this and they won’t take my calls saying the person I needed to talk to stepped out.
Please, whatever you do, don’t live here.

I really wanted to move here but didn’t wind up here due to availability. The timing was unfortunate but also, it was kinda pricey. And the leasing office wasn’t as helpful as I was hoping they’d be. Otherwise, this was actually my first choice.

I would give my apartment 2 stars – I could hear everything in the apartment upstairs which got really annoying. In addition to the fact that my bedroom had no door and it was supposed to, my upstairs neighbors had a shower leak which ruined my bed, too many young drunk college kids, too many near head on collisions in the parking garage, etc etc etc. However, if I could, I would give the staff 0 stars. Sure they may seem nice, tell you what you want to hear but when it comes down to it, they do not respond to emails or phone calls when there is an issue. I have countless unanswered emails to them. Completely unprofessional. When you go into the office to discuss the issues, they won’t work to address or resolve anything. I know the building is nowhere near full, despite what they tell people so maybe that’s why they are too busy to respond to emails? Either way, it’s frustrating especially when you are paying so much in rent. Plus Velocity has no pool. They said they were putting in a dog park last summer (2012)…yeah, that still hasn’t happened. However, you can’t beat the location and the free coffee in the lounge – the only two perks of the building. Look elsewhere!

Beautiful living spaces with lofty prices!
I took a tour of this building the other day as I have always been curious about this project which started off selling units (around 40 sold) and converted to leasing them instead. As a previous loft owner for years (in St. Louis), I miss the easy high-​rise lifestyle and amenities that come with that.
The location in the Gulch is fantastic and offers convenience to nearby retail, dining, and other landmarks.
The lofts range from a studio size to larger 2 bedrooms units that offer soaring ceilings, contemporary design, and beautiful fixtures. The building offers one assigned parking space per tenant, no additional pet rent ($ 350 non-​refundable deposit), and access to a well-​appointed gym, sky-​lounges, and useful common areas.
I have considered a move-​in but the price tag of $ 1569 for a 710 square foot one-​bedroom is not lighting my world on fire…
