The Filling Station East

The filling station is a wonderful place run by some very friendly and customer service driven people. They’re very knowledgeable about what beers they offer. One night I had made a jerk chicken rubbed dinner and the guy behind the counter recommended a great accompaniment. We were very satisfied and can’t wait to fill up our growlers again.

Great taps and bottle selection. Love the atmosphere. Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Not too pricey either.

This place has so much potential. The beer list is pretty mediocre, but any warm, caring bartender can work with an ok beer list. That being said, two of the three times I’ve been into this place, I’ve been treated like a second-​class citizen. If you’re into being snubbed, go check it out. If you have the same experience we’ve had, turn 180° around and head over to Edley’s which offers an excellent beer list, great food, and a wonderful staff. Thanks for bailing is out again, Edley’s.

Very friendly and personable service. Grant remembers your name and makes you feel welcome, even if you’re an out-​of-​towner no one knows. Very knowledgable about the beers and very happy to let you sample and ask about your day.

remember that one less beer from my previous review? i came to the filling station east to make up for it. although almost closing time, the two guys behind the counter were welcoming and friendly to me and my friend. i made my choice quick as one of the bartenders recommended a porter. my friend took his sweet ass time sampling a few. despite this, the bartenders engaged in our beer talk and didnt rush us at all. friendly service at a place where they serve good beer is a magnificent formula.

Had a great lazy afternoon here drinking various beers and playing Uno. The Filling Station had about 40 different beers to choose from and you could get samples, full pours, or get a growler to take home. In addition they also had several 6-​packs of non-​draft beer you could buy and take home. There is not a ton of seating — small bar + 4 tables, but it was perfect for our group to have a fun day. I will definitely go back!

I was in Nashville to run a marathon on Saturday morning. I knew I would want good beer after, but I also knew I wouldn’t want to put forth much work to get it. So, as soon as I got to town on Friday night I opened Unilocal and searched for a brewery near where I was staying. I was actually headed to an establishment next door to the Filling Station, but luckily caught a glimpse of this gem as I was parking.
We walked in and were greeted by a large group of people (latter we came to find out they were regulars) that were having a bacon and biscuit party, with beer of course. Apparently we stumbled upon in on the last friday of the month, which is when the regulars have a themed pitch in. We weren’t there to drink (which you can buy pints), so we didn’t join them. We sampled a few local brews (of which there were plenty), got some advice from the staff, and settled on the Jackelope «love bird», a Hefeweizen with a ton of flavor. It went down perfectly after I completed those 26.2 miles on the hilly streets of nashville.
When I return to Nashville, I’ll make sure to pay a visit to the Filling Station. Its a great way to try several local breweries in one place. You can buy pints or growlers at very reasonable prices. Plus, they have 2 locations in Nashville!

If you haven’t been to The Filling Station (East) in a while, it’s probably time for a return. Why? Because — at long last — you can finally belly up to the bar, kick back and drink a beer! Game changer. Four stars. I’m a fan.
Before this recent update, TFS was an unfortunate tease. All these fantastic beers on tap… and no way to taste them. It was frustrating. I realize that the situation wasn’t of their doing (TN laws, you have got to catch up with your population) but things were as they were. So, unless you brought your growler (s) with you, you were pretty much sol when you walked in the room — even though, by its name, filling up and keeping it moving were pretty much to be expected at The *Filling* Station. Don’t get me wrong: TFS has a decent selection of beers by the case or by the make-​your-​own six pack but sometimes you just want to sit and drink a beer. And, with 40 impressive beers on tap, at long last, you can do just that! 40 delicious beers of all styles at all time. Local beers. Seasonal beers. Popular beers. Hard-​to-​find beers. Beers! The staff is incredibly nice and really well-​versed in beer. These aren’t fellows who are working here because they need something to do. These are fellows who work here because they love beer. Automatically, it creates a good vibe. I’ve never noticed them belittling a customer even when faced with the most o₀ of questions. With Edleys, Fat Bottom and The Filling Station within steps of each other, Edgefield is a beer lover’s destination neighborhood in Nashville.

The beer selection here is ok. The problem is you can’t taste any of it before you buy it. If I’m going to pay almost $ 15 for a growler, I want to make sure I like what I’m getting. The staff seemed polite and knowledgeable, but descriptions of beers only go so far. If I want to pick up a growler on this side of town, I’ll be going down the street a bit, where they have just as good of selection and you can sample it first.

This place is great if you are a craft beer lover. They have all sorts of beer on tap and knowledgeable staff. Just ask if you want a taste one. They sell growlers to fill up with your favorite beer. and you can come back Good location, parking may be hectic, but well worth it.

I like this place, but I don’t like it as much as the 12 South location, which has a better bottle/​can and cigar selection than the East location. My only other gripe about The Filling Station is that, while many Nashville brews are available, it’s always cheaper to drive the short distance to those breweries and get a growler filled. Besides that, The Filling Station is a great place to grab a jug o’ beer. The wide selection of beers will appeal to most any tastes, and the selection is always changing.

Luckily, I DO live in walking distance from this place. My girlfriend and I are a part of their new buying club too so after so many purchases (that we are going to make anyway), we get some money knocked off. The space is cozy and the craft beer is plentiful and the staff knows what they’re talking about and always happy to see you.

Oh, how to not write a positive review? What I mean is that nearly everything that I don’t like about the FS has nothing to do with the FS. For what it is, it’s a great place to see (yes, see, you cannot sample) a variety beers available in Tennessee. The staff is friendly and the girl I spoke to knew her sh*t – that’s a big positive.
The downside of the FS is the «beers available in Tennessee» bit I mentioned… there just aren’t that many of the nation’s greatest beers available here. That’s not a failure of the FS, that’s a failure of a political culture that treats «high» gravity beer as magically separate and hence discourages most great breweries from even attempting to negotiate the treacherous waters of a bipartite distribution system. But I digress.

Friendly Knowledgable staff who are eager to help and guide you towards beer that you enjoy.
I only wish that customers were able to sample the beer before purchasing a half gallon of it, however, FS did inform me that hopefully soon, we’ll be able to sample and even pull up a stool and have a pint before I leave.

Unlike the original in 12 South I am only able to give 4 Stars for this joint. Why you may ask? Well first let me address why I enjoy The Filling Station.
This place has everything that is good about Growler Go-To’s. 40 taps of hoppy goodness, knowledgable staff, and local pride. There is a brewery around the corner and great food across the street.
One thing that was missing would be the bottles to be purchased. I’m sure this is in the future plans as they are newly opened. Also the parking here can be a bit rough when the surrounding businesses are busy. Street parking is free though! This is how East Nash seems to roll though.
I totally recommend you stopping on by Edley’s for some vittles and craft beer. Then hop (pun intended) across the parking lot and tote a growler home from this little gem. PS if you don’t have a growler they sell full and half size ones.
