Love RMS and my stylist, Darrell. He’s a professional – I’ve never been happier with my haircut anywhere – and he’s also just a friendly, pleasant person. The folks I’ve spoken with at the reception desk are invariably polite and efficient. I always know that I’m going to be thrilled with how I look when I leave, so it’s a treat to come here.

When I moved to Nashville I started my hunt for a new stylist, and man did I get some bad haircuts during my search. However, my search stopped here with Tommy. I love my hair every time I leave here. Everyone is so friendly and kind. You will get an amazing hair cut and color worth every penny.

Tried to make a appointment for my wife. I wanted to ask a few questions about there services and was rudely put on hold. The guy that answered the phone was a complete duche bag. Being new to the Nashville area, my wife is trying to find a new stylist. I know that places like this make enough money where one customer doesn’t make a difference but aint getting her business.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I purchased a groupon for color and was very excited. I made an appointment here via email in advance. Then when I asked about parking less than 24 hours before my scheduled appointment they responded with «Sorry we have already filled our books for tomorrow. Unfortunately our records show you have been here several times. If you can email us your phone number we can have our manager Robert contact you tomorrow». Firstly, I had never been to this salon before but I’m not sure how being a returning customer would be «unfortunate» anyway. Secondly, I’m not sure how having the manager call me would be helpful when they already double booked my appointment that I made for the day and time I needed it on. Now I have to try to find a new place to color my hair the same day and time I scheduled with less than 24 hours. I have a feeling had I not emailed with my question they would not have ever told me they gave up my spot and I would have driven all the way there and wasted all my time just to find out they cancelled me. When I responded to their email with essentially the same thing I wrote on here, they responded extremely unprofessionally and childishly. Communicating with them via email is like talking with a six year old. When a business wrongs a customer they should work to correct their error and apologize rather than engaging in passive aggressive emails in attempt to make the customer feel inferior. I can’t recommend a place with such horrendous customer service.

Vandy and Belmont students — take heed. I’m a Vanderbilt student and decided to give this salon a try since it’s so close to campus, and was hoping I could spread the word if it turned out to be awesome. Unfortunately, it wasn’t, and the focus at this salon seems to be on the money rather than on the customer and their hair. I hate to write a bad review, especially when the haircut I received the first time I went here (from Bethany, who is awesome and a stupendous hairstylist) was great. But the fact remains that customer service is a big aspect of the overall salon experience, and my experience was not good.
I had bought a Groupon for a haircut and didn’t realize it was for first-​time customers only. No big deal — since one of the backbones of Groupon’s business is that the paid value of their vouchers never expires at the merchant, I figured I would just use the paid value toward a full-​price haircut.
Long story short, I was told several times that I would not be able to use the paid value of my Groupon at the salon toward a full-​price service. I called many times, and even went to the salon in person to see if I could get the matter cleared up, but was told every single time that the only person who could sort out the situation was the manager. I was told that the manager would call me back every single time I called (and when I visited the salon in person). It’s been a MONTH since my first call, and I haven’t heard a peep yet. And to be fair, I realize that salons can get busy, but having a client wait a month for a call back is a little excessive. Even Groupon themselves got involved, and contacted the salon to confirm whether I could use the voucher — and emailed me back to say that the salon had stated that I could, which the salon later denied.
To make myself clear, I wasn’t trying to use an expired or invalid Groupon — I was simply trying to use the paid value of my voucher toward a full-​price haircut.
Again, no shade at all to the hairstyling team at Rodney Mitchell — they are excellent at what they do. I was just sad that the Groupon terms weren’t honored at a salon that I was hoping to make my go-​to hairstyling haven.

I used a Groupon here, and it was WONDERFUL! The environment is relaxing, laid-​back, and glamorous. Michelle is fabulous – seriously, the best haircut I’ve ever had in my life. I felt pampered – which is wonderful for someone who works in customer service 9 – 5. I look forward to going back and indulging in another Bloody Mary and blowout! :)

I came here on a whim two years ago and haven’t let anybody but Dale touch my hair since. I had him give me bangs on my first visit and he wouldn’t let me leave until I looked perfect — layers matching, bangs hairsprayed, etc.
I try to make appointments earlier in the day since I think they tend to get a bit behind later in the afternoon. The combo of the good music, cool atmosphere, drinks, and friendly faces (not to mention Fido next door) make the occasional wait worth it, though.
FYI you need cash for tip (the nearest ATM is across the street) but the employees are very understanding if you need to run across the street before you pay.
Overall great experience, wonderful people, and a guaranteed five star cut! (Yall should ask for Dale — super sweet guy, listens to what you want, creative, suggests potential new options, and always wonderful execution!)

I had a great experience at Rodney Mitchell. My appt. started on time but and I was greeted by Rodney himself who asked if I could use anything to drink, of course I got a bloody mary, which was awesome! Michelle did a great job on my hair, I love it, I have long hair and she did the best layering I have ever had! Unlike other salons that style my hair in too complex methods that would take too much time at home, Michelle understood that I was looking for something that I could just blow dry and be out the door. I’m glad I bought the Groupon and I will be back.

Tried many different salons when I moved to Nashville but never found one I really thought was worth sticking with. Always return to Rodney Mitchell Salon, have had several stylists cut my hair if in a pinch and my regular guy was full, all have been good!
Only thing to remember is there is no place to give a tip on the receipt so have to always bring cash or run to ATM across the street.

Michelle is awesome! After several years in Nashville trying to get the color/​cut from other stylists, Michelle was able to accomplish my request. This salon makes sure that the client feels at home and is not pretentious. Coffee, tea and bloody Mary’s are offered in a friendly environment.

Tomassina Baker is the best stylist I’ve ever had in my life. I only saw her two or three times because sadly I moved to Charleston. I wish I could scoop her up and take her with me! She is so professional, sweet and she knows what I want without much direction. She just knows what looks good and I was told she specializes in long hair. This is important because if you love your long hair it is frightening to see too much length taken off, which happens at most salons. I never write reviews, but I had to for her. The staff at the salon is super friendly. Tommie and I were talkative the first appointment, but the second neither of us were feeling super social and that’s ok! Sometimes it’s nice to have a stylist that doesn’t talk your ear off. Silence can be just what you need sometimes. She’s good at what she does. I have had cuts and color treatments/​highlights from her. My hair felt healthier and thanked her for the love.
I get sad at the thought that I’d have to drive 9 hours for me to see her, but finding a good hairstylist is like finding gold.

I’m very committed to my stylist, Tommy (Thomasina) at this place. She doses great color and cuts. I’ve found that most of the people in Nashville are not very good at cuts, but tommy is a pro. My hair always turns out like a sculpture, she does fantastic layers and frames my face just right. My best friend, husband and mother in law all go here. It’s a pretty cool environment. They also alway have either mimosas or bloody Mary’s. :-) sometimes I think that a few of the male stylists seem stuck up, but it’s completely minor and more likely I’m just a little self conscious…

I bought a groupon for One haircut, style and conditioning for $ 79 and can’t use it because i had made an appointment but had to cancel 4 hours before because I had family emergency. They told me that it required 24 hours to cancel which is not stated anywhere in the groupon itself. Also had problem with them before when they did not let me use the amount I paid for and groupon had expired.

I got my hair cut here yesterday and I can honestly say it’s one of the best haircuts I’ve ever received! Michelle helped me find the cut I’ve always been looking for. I came in with an idea of the cut I wanted and she helped me with the missing pieces in a courteous and professional manner. The atmosphere in the salon is relaxed and professional. I’m only going here to get hair done, from now on!

I had a great experience at Rodney Mitchell. I actually got my haircut from Rodney himself. It was easy to make an appointment and my appointment actually started on time. The haircut itself did not last long at all because Rodney clearly knows what he is doing. I really didn’t have much of an idea of what I wanted to do with my hair (minus make me look JUST LIKE Kate Middleton) and Rodney was great with guiding me to the right cut.
Of note, there is a second location opening downtown soon. Also, be careful with parking at this salon (right by Vanderbilt) because they ticket heavily.
If you are new, your haircut is going to run you ~$ 50.

I had a great experience at Rodney Mitchell Salon. The entire staff is friendly and willing to serve you however you may need. After my first visit with Blair (who is a super guy!) I wasn’t 100% pleased with my cut and color. I easily made an appointment to go back and see him so that he could «re-​do» it. He spent 2 hours re-​applying color and cutting off the ends. He did not charge me a dime and did it all with a smile. I have to say the service here is top notch and I LOVE my hair! The prices are reasonable compared to other salons I have visited in the area. (I got a Groupon, too.) Also-​I took my dog with me and she was treated like a princess. I would recommend visiting RM Salon. They are also opening a new location downtown soon. Thanks, Blair for a great haircut and great experience!

Loved this place! Got my hair trimmed up, long bangs, and whole blow out. Darryl did my hair just awesome! And nice to look at too ladies!

Overall, the stylists did a decent job when it came to hair. However, each time I have been in there, my experience was less than pleasant. Although the salon is nice I found the stylists and employees to be incredibly unprofessional and to be quite honest, rude. On some occasions when I went in, the attitude and unprofessionalism was directed at me, other times, it was towards various other customers. Although I got a friendly hello when I walked in the door (sometimes), I have had stylists make negative comments about my hair to my face (making me feel very bad about myself), as well as overhearing them talk amongst themselves ridiculing, commenting on, and making fun of OTHER customers. Each time I have witnessed something unprofessional and unsettling and it is because of this rude, negative, and immature behavior that I will now take my business elsewhere.
It is a shame that such a nice salon has stylists with such negative attitudes and behaviors towards clients.

I’m new to the area and puchased a groupon for a Keratin Treatment and haircut. When I called they were super friendly and helpful and I made the appointment with Dessa. When I arrived they were super friendly and offered me a refreshment. Dessa was ready for me quickly and took the time to find out what I was looking for with my cut and my history with Keratin’s and color etc. She was personable and we chatted a lot but not too much. The salon has a great design to it and it is both hip and relaxed/​comfortable. There are also a lot of cute shops and restaurants in the area and I look forward to driving back there from Franklin for my next cut as well as my daughters… she is going to love Dessa. I went to Posh next door right after and was immediately complimented on my hair. I’m always a little nervous with Groupons in an area where I’m new but this was a perfect match.

Let me preface by saying that I have been getting my hair cut by a guy in Austin for seven years, even though I’ve lived in other cities for half that time. He is that good. The couple of times that I’ve strayed, I have been severely disappointed in the outcome. But I wasn’t planning a trip back to Austin for a while and badly needed a cut, so I decided to bite the bullet.
My friend walks in a few weeks ago with *srsly* the cutest short hair cut. And so I ask her who and where, and she says Rodney Mitchell. I figured that this place would be too expensive, but she corrected my thinking on the matter. So I called to make an appointment with her guy (whose name I sadly cannot remember at the moment) and Rodney answered the phone. Turns out the guy my friend had seen didn’t do morning appointments and all my afternoons were filled, so Rodney said «look, I’m the owner, I can absolutely vouch for Allison who has several openings in the next few days.» So I thought, alright, he’s the owner so he knows his stuff – I’ll do it.
Allison absolutely did not disappoint. First off, she’s a total sweetheart, but not super chatty (I appreciate stylists who can be content to both hold and not hold a convo while working) so there was no pressure there. I came in with my laptop and several photos I’d found that approximated what I wanted in a haircut, as I couldn’t find exactly the right one. We talked about it a bit, discussed front and back length, bangs, etc. and she said alright and went to it. What she gave me was the cutest damn shaggy bob that I never thought possible. I seriously can’t wait to go back.
One of the other awesome things about RMS is that they give you a discount for your first visit and I believe they have some kind of discount for students and teachers. They also will give you *another* discount when you refer people. So I got my friend a discount, and then referred a friend, so I’ll get another discount when I go back for my next cut. All good things when you’re trying your best to be a frugal grad student.
