Lou’s Custom Exhaust

These guys do great work and they’re super friendly! Got a catback exhaust there and the sound quality is amazing! Couldn’t be happier! If you’re looking for an exhaust i would recommend here.

These guys turned a $ 1300 repair on my old Subaru into a $ 500 repair because they could do the welding that the guys at Firestone could not. They saved me from buying a new catalytic converter just by being good welders.
And they did it in about two hours while I had lunch. I can’t complain one bit.

My catalytic converter flanges were rusting and leaking in front. Lou’s quoted me a price of $ 300 on the phone then $ 400 in person. The modified price included a catalytic converter, which I thought sounded reasonable. After Lou’s repaired the exhaust, immediately upon leaving, my check engine light came on. I brought the car right back. Two mechanics looked at it and tried to reset the engine code with a tester meant for cars 1997 and newer. Mine is a 1995. I told them it was a ’95 when they couldn’t seem to get any results. One of the mechanics then told me the wires came off my O2 sensor in the process of removing the cat. I asked him if he could have wired it wrong. He said, «no».
Apparently, they had done all they could do, so I went home, removed my O2 sensor, compared the wires with a diagram available online, and discovered the wires were mixed up. I removed, rewired and reinstalled the O2 sensor, and guess what? No more check engine light.
Also I understood they would weld new connections to the pipes. They didn’t. It is all welded together, so if the repair doesn’t outlive the car (as I was told it would), I will have to replace the pipe behind the cat as well. I spoke with the man in the office after I solved the check engine problem they created. He assured me it was unacceptable for the sensor to be wired incorrectly, and told me he would make it up to me on my next visit. After the repair I priced the parts and I could have repaired this myself for about $ 200. I am wondering, «Was this a good deal?»
On the plus side, the car is extremely quiet now, and with the O2 sensor correctly installed I should get better gas mileage. I also don’t have to worry about gaskets leaking where they welded.
They came highly recommended by my mechanic and he thought I wouldn’t have to get dirty doing the work myself.
BOTTOM LINE: the exhaust work seems good so far. Having to go back under the car myself to fix their work– not so good. A written estimate is advised.
Someone else who does not know cars as well might have gone to a repair shop to fix the check engine light and had to pay labor and the price of a new O2 sensor. Or worse had to pay to troubleshoot the CEL and then get it fixed.
Caution is advised if you choose Lou’s. And you may want to get what you heard in writing.

Daaaa, Unilocal it before you go to it! I’m a fan and going to return! This review is why you should listen to your Unilocal friends.
So, 3 machanic’s said I needed my flex pipe replaced. 2 actually crawled under and looked. So I called around, and price kept going up… My Unilocal buddy John recommended Lou’s out in Nashua.
So I made the called and even drove there to confirm the $ 200 quote just for the flex pipe. (their quote was several hundred $ cheaper than the local custom guy of $ 380.)
Well I got there and they went through my exhast. The kid (Cory) was awsome. Now I needed more work than a flex pipe, but he fixed it enough to pass inspection. And the cost was the same as the local guy for just the one peice! I got more work done by Lou’s for the same price as local guy quoted me for the one part…
What probably would have taken the local guy most of the day, got done in under 2hrs by my man Cory… he knows what he is doing

I was told to bring my 96 volvo 850 by a mechanic in nashua to Lou’s custom exhaust because of some rust on the exhaust from the resonator to the tip.
Brought the car to lou’s they took a look at it and said it was fine and could pass inspection, but could replace that part if i wanted. I decided against it because they said i could get an extra year or two out of what i had.
the whole process took 10 minutes and it was easy.

You absolutely cannot beat the price/​quality for quick service. They are limited to exhaust only, and if it’s quiet enough, no appointment. The prices are controlled by the fact they make their own convertor back/pipes.no middle man distributor. This helps you save alot of money.
Smaller sedan convertor back with stainless fall under 200.00. I think people have this misconception that they are a fix-​all repair shop, as they will be the first to tell you, they are not. This one is run by a pair of brothers that this is what they do, so they are good at it. You will more than like likely get a directweld to flange, but it saves everyone time and money in the end.
You’re paying more at these Midas/​Meineke type of shops because they are buying these aftermarket kits (often made in china) and the margin for profit is much smaller and the quality just isnt there. I know first hand after going round and round with Meineke right up the street with their joke of a ‘lifetime warranty’ that just doesnt exist. Had a Pathfinder with it’s very common ‘moisture buildup’ issue in the over axle pipe, causing internal rot and in the end, need for replacement ever 3 years or so (if I was lucky). I paid originally 350+ for their kit/​labor and lifetime warranty, and 18 months later the over axle pipe/​resonator broke free (due to the moisture be trapped), and Meineke’s ‘warranty’ left me with a 210.00 bill, as the ‘resonator wasnt covered, neither was the labor’. 24 months later, was back in there with the same issue. This is a huge problem, if you hold onto your vehicle for 10 – 12 years (like I do) and dump over a grand into your exhaust. Lou’s will incorporate a kit, all stainless and it’s done.
A little known secret, is when you drop your car off at «Bobs Repair» (just as an example, not a real shop), for exhaust. your car more often than not, is brought down to Lous for the repair. It is actually subbed out by your mechanic because Lou’s pricing cannot be beat, even at ‘jobber list’ (which is the cost of the parts that the mechanic pays. you add labor and gaskets+). This is a secret that i know because I know a few area mechanics and being a distributor.
You just have to realize, they lack the tools to get into diagnostics and repair outside of straight up exhaust swaps. They do have the top of the line custom pipe bender also. No preformed kits here.

I took my car in to see if they could help me with a problem I had with my exhaust. I had an appointment but when I got their I had to wait for almost a half hour before my car went in. They drove my car in on the lift and 3 guys stood their taking turns looking at the bottom of my car and after another half hour they said we can’t help you. The waiting room is 2 chairs and a space heater that was not working and the employees look like they just got out of the Voc school. I left this dump and went to Meineke muffler and they fixed it in no time. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE

I took my Ford F-​250 in to have a header gasket replaced and a dual exhaust installed. The work they performed was very good. However, they took off the vacuum canister that controls my ventilation controls and didn’t put it back on when the job was finished. When I noticed my ventilation controls weren’t working I took it in to the dealership. They promptly asked me if I’d recently had any work done to the exhaust manifold and I stated that I had, to which they responded that the vacuum canister was missing. When I called Lou’s, I got a great big explanation that there was no way they could have done this, despite the fact that vacuum canisters don’t simply walk off. The canister is mounted to the fender lining which can’t be removed without dismounting the canister. Lou’s claimed that they don’t follow this procedure. Yeah, right. Liars.
Despite spending $ 900 for the work they performed, they’ve now cost me an additional $ 150 for their mistake and were unwilling to address the simple fact that the canister was there before the truck went in, and wasn’t there when the truck left.
