I have had Nicor Home Solutions for years and up until this fall was always very pleased with the service provided. This year was a totally different story. I called in October for my annual service check and waited on hold for approximately 10 minutes in order to get an appointment. Then I was told the annual check was no longer part of my plan (which they automatically renew). The EARLIEST appointment I could get was for December 4^th for the regular service check. The technician arrived as scheduled and was very professional and helpful, but then told me that humidifier check was not part of my contract, although it had always been done previously. Again I call customer service and waited on hold for 8 minutes to reach a representative that was less than helpful. BUT the technician was wonderful!

scam alert!!! do not waste a dime on this company! if i could do zero stars i would!!! repair men are uneducated and home solutions will deny your claim no matter what even if its over 30 day waiting period!!! wow!!! scamed me for 3 months of paying just to let me know they wont cover anything!!! on any repairs they only cover up to $ 400 and they wouldn’t even cover that!!! they just said we are denying your claim and there is nothing you can do… very rude customer service and uneducated technicians!!! do not waste money on this service!!! scam!!! scam!!! scam!!!

They were good at one point. Worst service since change of management may be, but I had first-​hand experience of their bungling customer request this September 2015. It definitely seems that they want to make as much money as they can until people cancel their contracts upon reality check.
Do not expect any service from them though even if you are regularly paying your premium/​dues. I initially requested a service on 10.19.2015 for heating system mal-​function; it is November 04, 2015 and after 3 no shows and 2 days off from work waiting for their tech to visit I finally decided to cancel my contract so called NICOR Home Protection COMPLETE $ 120+/month! The representative did not have Basic Professionalism to cancel my contract retro-​dated to 10.20.2015 since I did not get my request fulfilled.
They are on track to be labelled as Total Scam. If you try to cancel the service, there will be long hold/​waiting and then someone will scare you of losing your coverage/​benefits.
Do not expect any service from NICOR HOME SOLUTIONS for now.

Worst thing ever. Total scam… I have been on hold trying to cancel the service I don’t want for over an hour. they just bill me and provide no service. Do not use NICOR HOME SOLUTIONS.

Company goes under name Nicor advanced solutions, nicor solutions, and nicor home solutions.

Complete scam by Nicor solutions. I signed up thinking that they were the same company as Nicor Gas. Technically a sister company which allows Nicor to charge consumers extra for public utilities.
There pitch: keep monthly payments the same throughout the year to avoid paying large amounts in the winter. The amount would be based on my past gas utilization. I figured it would be similar to my gas usage. BIG SCREW UP ASSUMING THIS ON MY PART.
Looked into my bill 2 months ago and the premium Nicor solutions charges is ridiculous. My average gas bill if I stayed by Nicor Gas was ~$ 87/​mo. The bill I got from Nicor solutions ~$ 137/​mo.
Incensed at myself for being duped by Nicor Solutions. Frankly shady, almost fraudulent, practice by Nicor solutions using the name «Nicor» to get consumers like me to put my scam alert guard down since you think you are dealing directly with your public gas provider.
Getting the bill isn’t clear on the difference you would pay with Nicor gas versus Nicor solutions.
I am sure thousands of people are paying this fixed price plan not knowing they have been scammed. I lost ~$ 500 before I realized my mistake. Some out there have lost thousands.

Received a postcard telling me that my service plan was set to automatically renew unless I call them to cancel. 866−642−6793. Funny thing is… I don’t have a service plan with them.
So I called the number given, and they included some Account Number… just to check that my information and their information is correct. 17 minutes of listening to muzak, and I’m still waiting to talk with a customer service person. IF THIS IS WHAT people have to put up with to contact someone at this company… I pity the person with a serious service issue.
In the time it took me to compose this review… 20 minutes… and still no customer service contact.
23 minutes later, and I spoke with a customer service rep, regarding the postcard. It seems I do have a ‘plan’ which covers any gas leaks INSIDE my home from my stove /​range. 60.00 a year, for something I’ve yet to use, and isn’t mandatory according to NICOR. Annoying that I had to wait so long to talk with someone.

Have their furnace + A/​C repair and maintenance plan for years and so far excellent. They clean and check both units thoroughly, and fix any problems subject to the $ limit of each visit. Water heater coverage is included but never needed service.
They’re always professional and I always hang around with them to see how they do it and learn (and make sure they do a thorough job). They do overstate the costs of parts though, but if you have a plan it covers most of it.

Do not waste your money I had the sewer line coverage of course the crack was not covered (fine print they asked if I wanted a quote to get it fixed and they said 6250 I got it done by another company with a better guarantee for 2250 Then my how water heater leaked the fixed it but said it should be replaced and with my 500 coverage from NICOR solutions would be only 1800 I got it done by another company same water heater for 1000 and then NICOR solutions denied my claim because I didn’t get it preapproved by them to use a different provider even though their guy said it needed to be replaced. Then I called to get furnace cleaned and checked they said not covered but for 7.95 a month could add service That’s 95 a year got it done for 69.99 So I have cancelled and for the same price got a whole house warranty. Total RIPOFF is all I can say about NICOR SERVICES

I have had and continue to have an amazing experience with this company and staff. No wonder this company is jd powers certified for several years running. Just recently I had my AC cleaned and checked and my technician came to my house on time. During my clean and check the tech educated me on my system and provided recommendations for a few programs the company offers. Every year I have had my maintenance and repairs done through this company and I have been very pleased!

No and Avoid. This is a small office and no one there is capable. They would review my account and call me, yet they never did. When I called them, it was obvious they did not do any research into the account errors. They only believe what is in their computer notes, garbage in– garbage out. Their service calls for phantom appointments that were never scheduled, when you call the office Nicor HSolutions asks «why did you cancel?»
Their managers there are not very helpful nor capable!
Nicor now owes me $ 200 of services but they say they do not. Even though I prove to them their system is in error. They will not take my notes. Calls, dates, times, and names into account. I may have to file a lawsuit. The managers suddenly forget details of your calls they are on vacation or they have left for other employment. Miserable place. Plus their technicians they work with are not good. One tech raised my water temp on my water heater to dangerous levels, they never caught a missing retainer clasp on a hose that the original install failed to attach properly.
This after having Nicole H solutions for 4 years, this hose finally wiggled off in my furnace and water leaked all over rusting the case. I inspected, found the leak and then saw the clamp just hanging loose on the hose, never properly installed as it had been for 4 years! I pay them to inspect and clean … How did they miss this each time? Basically all they do is shoot compressed air to get some dust out of the furnace, and nothing more.

They were great on the phone but service man scheduled for future.
Such crummy reviews. Yikes.

read their fine print because Nicor will blame you for not reading their fine print.
I had a sewer blockage, which in the past had cost me $ 100 to $ 150 to fix, and in less than a few hours.
With Nicor Home Solutions it cost me $ 250 and a 24 hour wait time. then when I asked for explanation, they blamed me repeatedly for not reading the fine print.
their fine print was that they cover only the first 100 feet of your sewer line.

They came out to do a gas line inspection. The tech found 2 large leaks. He turned off the gas and said the crew who could fix it would be out tomorrow afternoon. When I got no call half way into the 4 hour window, I called. They had no record of my appointment or that the tech had found leaks. The soonest they could now come out was tomorrow from 1 – 5. That means another day with no cooking, hot water or dryer. Not to mention I had to take the afternoon off of work and will now have to wait around another afternoon. The tech also told me the wrong size furnace filter — so I had to make 2 trips to get the correct size.
Their compensation for their error? A 3 month credit on our service plan — $ 14.85 and we could get our own contractor and they would reimburse us the cost of the repair. So generous considering it’s a Friday afternoon and besides the fact I have no idea who to call, who could I get to come out today? I take the $ 14.85 and a cold shower.
This was our first experience with Tradewinds and not a good one.
