Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Hello my name is Robert Balter. I started getting tattooed in 1978 by Louie Lombi, ever since that day I have been infatuated with the art of tattooing. Louie became a good friend through the years of getting tattooed by him while he was working for Big Joe in Mt Vernon N.Y. Joe himself was also a big influence in the start of my career. But Louie was a big help to me by answering my questions, and learning the mechanics of the machines, making needles, mixing inks, and putting in a nice, solid tattoo.

I started tattooing in early 1980 whenever I could. In 1984, I went to work for Sugar Bear at The Emporium Of Design In Denver, CO. That is Really where I started my career as a tattoo artist. I opened my first shop in 86 – 91, from there I worked at various shops in Miami, West Palm for Louie, and others. I came back to N. Y and opened Modern Age Tattoo in 1997.
