Affordable rooms… friendly staff… across from the beach… and a pizza place connected to it. If you’re looking for a super convenient and cheap place to sleep and shower when you aren’t either at the beach or seeing the sights then try it out. Sure, it’s a little dated but still charming.

Our second stay at the Mariner since being updated — don’t know which property Talya stayed at but obviously seems like her reviews are not factual. Replacing the flooring but leaving nasty cabinets, gross chairs with stuff on them to the point I took an extra sheet(Lysol sprayed none the less) and draped it over is bad enough. However finding hair all over the place, even in the bed is just nasty. The coffee pot was not clean, food on the microwave, and roaches(and yes I know the difference between a roach and a water bug) in the cabinets. Baseboards covered in dirt, old curtains with holes in them. Yes I know you get what you pay for but don’t over promise and under deliver. Avi the hotel manager is very nice however this property is slowly going downhill again. It would be a real gem if someone could take it over and restore it the way it needs to be to keep it’s 1950’s charm.

I stayed at the motel during my visit to Myrtle Beach and This restaurant was really delicious. I tried the White Pizza and later a sub. The pizza had plenty of both ricotta and mozzarella cheese, which I loved, and the sub’s bread was fresh and yummy. Service was very quick and friendly. The location is beautiful, attached to the Mariner Motel with a front deck overlooking ocean blvd. I was able to catch the Mariners manager who said he’s looking to expand the menu to include breakfast options and, to extend the hours of operation. I’m excited to go back and try some other pizzas on the menu, I definitely recommend visiting this place!

We stayed at the Mariner in September, 2012. It is hugely improved. New owner Avi is dedicated to making the motel clean, comfortable, inviting. The rooms are spotless, with new sinks, air conditioners, beds, and furniture. Avi is completely renovating rooms, bit by bit. If you need something, just ask. Everything is clean and in good repair. The pools are sparkling. The old kiddie pool has been replaced with a hot tub. There is a water feature with a Koi pond. The former dog walk area has been fenced in as a puppy playground. New owner Avi will do whatever it takes to make sure his guests have what they need. It is rustic, but has character. The weekend we were there the place had no vacancy, yet there was plenty available parking The Mariner has improbed significantly recently. We will be back again and again, and have recommended the Mariner to friends and family, especially those who travel with their dogs.

First room had sticky floors and remote, bathroom sink dirty and clogged. Lamp didn’t work. Second room was just as bad, sticky floors, dirty bathroom. All surfaces were either dusty, dirty, or sticky. I dare say I’ll not stay there again…

We chose the Mariner because they allow any size dog and are right across the street from the ocean. I am not too sure that we will stay here again but it is a possibility because of our large dog. I think I must’ve had the same room as Christina and she was quite right about it in her description. We were only staying one night(thankfully) and decided not to shower there because we couldn’t get hot water in the sink and because the bathroom seemed nasty. There was a pubic hair stuck to the tile right above the sink and some dead gnats stuck to the wall as well. Another problem for me was that there was no where to really take my dog when she had to go potty except for the grounds at the adjacent hotel. I felt really strange about doing that but you gotta do what you gotta do.

This was my fourth stay at The Mariner, and I’m sad to say it’s gone downhill over the years. The first time I ever booked a room(about 10 years ago), I remember being pleasantly surprised by its character. The raw beams in the rooms were hewed from an old ship; no smoking was allowed in any of the rooms; it was dog-friendly; and the grounds were well kept with hammocks scattered throughout. This weekend, I was sad to find that in the last decade it’s not received the TLC it needs — and also, I think I’ve grown up enough(ie, I’m paying for the room rather than my parents!) to realize the faults. To start, we were placed in a room right beside the front office. It’s so dimly lit(I’m talking: cave:like) we had to keep the curtains open — and every. single. person who walks by looks in, obviously. To top it off, the carpet is pulling up on the edges, the towels are crunchy, paper-thin and barely enough material to wrap around your body, the ac is a unit and is loud, the bathroom tile looks old and grungy. Water pressure was good — hard enough it hurt my girly bits to shower! There are no outlets in the bathroom for a hair dryer(no hair dryer either) and no full-length mirror in the rooms. They do have a ‘fridge and a microwave. The biggest benefit is that it’s dog-friendly and it’s just across the street from the ocean. The downfall of dog-friendly is that not all dogs are as well-behaved as others. Our room was right beside a yippy schnauzer that woke us up at 6:30 am and wouldn’t stop. Of course, we could also hear the family next door — the husband, wife and 5-year-old — and their conversations and TV shows. Super-thin walls. There is an outdoor pool that’s a good size. And the grounds are still well-kept. Parking(along the side of the building) can sometimes be difficult to get.
