Sands Ocean Club Resort

I have been coming to Myrtle beach every summer with my family for many years. Every year we stay here. Usually in my dad’s condo. He owned a condo at this resort but recently sold it. This year, we decided since we are familiar with the hotel, we would book a room here for the week. Huge mistake. We got a one bedroom suite in the «new» tower. The hotel garage was full so we had to park across the street. Ok. Fine. Then, walking into the hotel we were nearly run over by an obviously inebriated douche in a Maserati in the «park and unload» area. At check-​in we were greeted by an extremely rude front desk person — Who refused to speak up over the excessive noise from the bar located steps from the Lobby. (seriously, who thought putting a nightclub at the entrance of a hotel, one that is marketed as a family friendly hotel, was a good idea? My 3 year old doesn’t need to watch 9 drunk girls dry-​hump each-​other on the dance floor while trying to enter the hotel — but obviously after coming here for years, I just brushed it off as usual) I digress. Since checking in, (we are on day 3) we’ve found numerous cockroaches. They call them palmetto bugs here. Fine. Whatever. Call them what you want, but they’re cockroaches. Gross… but whatever. Supposedly they are just nuisances that come in from outside. This evening we found one in the hallway. I went outside to enjoy the view from our balcony (at ground level) On the rocks, 3 feet away from me, noticing quite a bit of movement. Yup. There are at least a dozen of those little effers roaming through the rocks. Meandering through cigarette butts, broken glass, the empty packs of cigarettes thrust from balconies above, old rotting cigars, a bottle of all-​purpose cleaner that I watched as it fell from the heavens above me. I had enough. I called the front desk. I was told they aren’t cockroaches but «Arcadians». Google Arcadian bugs. There is no such thing. Also, I know what we saw. I know what we squished, smashed and stomped. Cockroaches. I know this place is trying to improve their image. The minor updates they’ve made make that clear, but first thing is first. CLEAN this place and get the bugs under control. I think we will make other accommodations next year.

One of the nastiest places i have ever stayed at, it was a total disaster from the time we arrived. As soon as we walked in our room we spotted two roaches. The cabinets were rotting and there was hair all in the bath tub. All the appliances in the room were very outdated. The sheets on the beds had stains all over them as well. The management and bellhops were very friendly and helpful but that was about it. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed here through a real estate service that arranged a 2 bedroom condo for us for a week. We were on the 7^th floor. Our room was on the nicer side, but the walls are very thin and we had several nights of hearing the two guys next door blasting music, talking loud and dropping many F bombs. With 3 young kids I did not appreciate it. Also every single morning at 6am they would use a leaf blower to clean off the parking lot waking everyone up. Also not super pleasant. The fitness center they claim to have only had a few things and they were out of order. Was counting on working out all week, but that was not possible unfortunately. The plusses were my kids loved the pools, lazy river and hot tubs. My husband had a great experience at the spa on site and we definitely enjoyed the River City Café and Ocean Annies. Great food and cocktails. The beach being so accessible was fantastic and we loved our view from the room.

I’m kind of iffy on this place. It was very loud with a lot of rude teenagers. Other than your condo, there isn’t a place you won’t really encounter them. Other than that, the condos are nice, the food is good. Probably won’t stay here again though.

Very disappointed with the choice I made by staying here. I stayed on the 9^th floor which always had some «sort» of odor as did my room. Not a pleasant one! Room was outdated and in need of some touch ups. Last but not least was coming in one night to find a couple cockroaches hanging out on the kitchen floor. You couldn’t pay me to return here. When we left to drive home I stayed over at a chain hotel to break up the long ride I had ahead of me and it was 10 times nicer than Sands.

This place shows a lot of potential, but it needs serious work. This resort was built in the 1980s, and boy is its age showing. My friend and I stayed for a weekend at the beach. First of all, each unit is privately owned– I think it’s a timeshare set up kind of thing. I happened to book through the hotel, so I got whatever they had, but you can book through VRBO or something and get to see your unit. In our case, I don’t think the unit we got had ever been updated since it was built. Although it obviously got cleaned by housekeeping every time, there’s just some things that cannot be cleaned. The side of the fridge was extremely badly rusted and it had stained and discolored part of the cabinets. The handle was stained gray and yellow from decades of people touching it. The microwave was tiny and bore a sticker inside that said «Manufactured 1994». For context, if the microwave was a person, it would be able to legally drink right now. The stove was some kind of double decker contraption that belongs in a museum. The floor had the waxy feeling that signifies somebody used plenty of soap to wash the floor but didn’t bother rinsing. The carpet was stained and worn and the chairs provided sagged at the seat. Other than that, the room just reminded me of a motel– clean, but cheap. The balcony view was very nice– we had oceanview, but honestly it was more than adequate, no oceanfront needed. Our room also happened to overlook Ocean Annie’s. Be warned– although this is a child friendly resort, the band does not stop playing until 11:45 PM during the summers, and if you overlook the bar, it is very loud and there is nothing you can do to block the noise. My friend and I are both in our 20s, so this wasn’t really a problem for us, but it could be for some. The resort grounds are outdated too. The entrance lobby is very small and bizarrely has some wicker rocking chairs in front of a ritzy looking marble water fountain and a fish tank. A smoking lounge is directly to the left and looks like a dive bar with pool tables. The elevators are on the other side of the lobby and they really tried to make this place glitzy but all I got was the «ancient casino» vibe. At the time I’m sure it was luxurious for the 80s, but accents like wood paneling and mini TVs in the elevators just really date the place. The pools are very small and in the hallways leading to the pools and beach the smell of the kitchens is overwhelming and gross. Parking is horrible and we ended up having to park at the second parking deck across the street because there was nowhere to park in the deck that is connected to the hotel. As Alyssa G. mentioned, this is a hotel on the beach where people constantly party. This place really captures the moniker «Dirty Myrtle». Like I said, this place has a lot of potential, and with some major renovations and TLC it would be a gem. Right now, not so much.

Just left Sands, go there every year! Stayed in a new remodeled unit that was very comfortable and has perfect views of the beach! The staff at Sands is always helpful and super fun. It’s nice to pull up and see a lot of the same familiar faces that know you by name. Sands has a warm, inviting atmosphere and you never have to leave the complex if you choose not to. There are great restaurants at the resort and also within walking distance, you have live bands outside and Sandals Lounge inside to sing karaōke and dance. It’s a great place for adults but they also offer lots for kids with the lazy river, indoor and outdoor pools. We’ve brought our kids here for years and now we are having our own adult time at Sands! Would highly recommend this place for creating memories you’ll have forever!

The condo was in a great location, I stayed at the newer buildings and our condo was right by the pool. The facilities are great, there are mutiple lounge chairs as well as tables nearby the grilling area. The bad part was the bed, the washer and the lack of proper cleaning tools. The sheets were so thin and see through. There was no mattress cover and the mattress was very noticeably stained. The vacuum cleaner was ancient and the bag was so full of dust there was no way to keep the floors free of sand. Washer/​dryer combo machine took 3 hours to wash and dry a load and it was so hard to open. Lastly, the cable box had no way to block the pornographic channels. It was horrible to come upon a porn movie while changing the tv channel with your daughter in the living room.

If I could give no stars I would. At check-​in, there was a very loud sports bar, right on top of the front desk. Which was alright because everyone’s just having fun. There were also groups of very drunk people both older and younger standing outside the entrance to the hotel and in the lobby which was more annoying than anything. We were checked in and went to the room. Immediately, it smelled terrible, lights and the tv did not work. The air conditioner started blowing large chunks of brown… who knows what. We asked for another room and they gave us another without hassle. I made sure to ask them for the same type of room (2 beds at-​least), they said yes; it had one bed. We again asked for another room and it took approximately 20 minutes to get one. When we got in the room, it was the least messed up. There were still lights and the tv that did not work and it was just not well kept and dingy. It was 2am by this time and we were done trying. We got another hotel and checked out. It was ridiculous and not advertised accurately. The major issues were just general maintenance like… CLEANING! Replace the beds and sheets and paint and fix the lights, the towel rack which also fell off the wall at one point was fun. The only positive experience was at check out because it was a different employee who was well mannered and helpful. Other than that… going to the bathroom wasn’t too bad. No positive things to say about the hotel because of dealing with simple, stupid things like the room.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. They had the reservation wrong, but did change that. Stinky trash bags were placed in the hall on Thursday afternoon. They were still there Friday afternoon. We had to complain to get them moved. The hotel is in very bad repair. The rooms were not very appealing. The toilet ran continuously and had to be fixed after each flush. The closet doors did not slide. The maids turned the deadbolt lock on our door to hold the door open during service. The door was still open when we returned late that night. Fortunately, we had all valuables with us because the safe was also broken. The elevators sound like they are ready to crash at any minute. Last time we will stay here. I am not sure what happened over the last four years, but it is definitely for the worst.

One of the funest places to stay in Myrtle Beach. We rented through a private renter, not through the resort and the unit was in great updated shape.

Stayed at this hotel expecting it to be beautiful since it was a resort but nothing about it was nice, except maybe a few employees at the front desk. The hotel was very outdated and the carpet in our room was disgusting! I didn’t even want to walk on it with my bare feet! It was supposed to be blue but in some areas it was more like pink! I didn’t even wanna sleep in the bed because although, the sheets smelled clean there were faded stains in them. Our neighbors next to us had 3 bags full of trash sitting out in the hallway that had to be sitting out there for 8+ hours. It had a gym but most of the equipment was out of service. The restaurants inside the hotel were pretty pricey as well. Other then the beautiful view this hotel gave us I probably would never stay here again.

Unilocal makes u give at least one star or this would get absolutely zero stars from me. Filthiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in and most unprofessional employees a resort could have. I’m not trying to be a dick just giving an honest review so no one ever makes the mistake of staying here again. Please avoid this place for your own good

The Sands Ocean Club Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC was my headquarters for the 2014 Myrtle Beach Marathon. I had found this property via
and found it to be a solid property. While the reviews on Unilocal were mixed, I had decided to book the property because it was in an ideal location, ocean views, and above all else, a great rate for a 2 bedroom suite. I looked at the official hotel website for photos and info for making my decision, as well as taking Unilocal reviews into an account as well. At $ 80/​night split among 3 people, you can’t beat that! I booked 2 nights here, occupying room #221, and it was simply a great weekend. The hotel was nice, comparable to properties in Atlantic City. There was an on site restaurant, indoor spa and swimming pool, as well as a karaōke /​bar as well on the ground floor.
The Sands Ocean Club Resort is located at 9550 Shore Drive on the northern side of Myrtle Beach. While most of the action was in downtown Myrtle Beach, it was best to be away from it all and it worked out for the best. The resort had a 4+ story parking garage, so that was awesome! Only problem was that 2 stories of it were usually occupied, so we had to park on the 3^rd floor or above during our stay. The check in process was good and the service was good during that time. We didn’t use the on site hotel amenities, but we may have if we had a longer stay. Oh well, maybe next time for sure. The room itself was pretty great. It was a 2 bedroom suite as promised. Once I saw that there was a queen bed in one room with a tv, I called dibs, since I booked the room. My 2 other friends got the 2 double beds in the other room. There was also a couch, which we could have asked a 4^th friend to crash, but they had other plans with other friends we knew in Myrtle Beach that weekend.
The room also boasts a kitchen with refrigerator, as well as a tv in the «living room» and 2 bathrooms — one with a tub and the other with a shower. Truly awesome. At $ 80/​night in Myrtle Beach’s «off season», it was really a steal. Glad I found it and booked it. The bed I slept on was excellent and everything worked the way it should. We all had a grand time here and hope to be back as soon as we can. Beach front access is great too. Too bad it was cold and windy, but it wasn’t too bad when the sun was out. Check out process was good too. I was wearing my Myrtle Beach marathon finisher medal and she asked what was that. I told her and she was like, «I can only do 5K. A marathon is too long for me.» To that I replied, «never say never. Never know what you can do until you try.»
With that, I left Myrtle Beach, amazed and happy with my stay here at the Sands Ocean Club Resort. Definitely would recommend this one to anyone. World class at a minimum price — at least during the off peak season. I get this place can easily do $ 199/​night easy. Overall experience was awesome and hope to be back soon. Would be great to retire here, but that remains to be seen.

I have stayed at this hotel more times then I can count over the last few years and have never had a problem with it. I was actually socked about the horrible reviews.
At the ended the day, this is a hotel on the beach where people constantly party at, so the rooms are not going to be the absolute greatest. They have both smoking and non smoking rooms as well so if you don’t want a room smelling like smoke I suggest you get a non smoking room.
The room I usually stay in is oceanfront, two bedrooms one with two twin bed and another room with a large bed. There is a balcony, a living room with a couch that is a pullout. There is also a large counter (bar like style), a reasonably big kitchen, two bathrooms and also a table to eat at. All of this for a reasonable cost. Perfect for a big family or a large group of friends. They also have smaller rooms available for those who choose not to have a room is big.
A the resort, they have two bars, one is an outdoor bar right n the beach that has loud band playing every night which I find to be pretty fun. On the inside they have a bar also that makes some great martinis. The also have a spa which is pretty good as well.
They have 3 different swimming pools and two hot tubs. One pool is heated and indoors (perfect for the winter) along with the two hot tubs. They have another pool outside and a lazy river. You are ale to bring liquor n the beach as long as it isn’t in a glass container which is pretty awesome.
The hotel also has a kids program which the program bring the kids on trips such as the amusement park, NASCAR race track, water park etc. and are sure to have a great time. While the kid is away the parents can stay at the hotel and play! It doesn’t get better than that.
This place also had two different restaurants, one is very casual, burgers and beer type of place. This place is made out of allllllll wood and is covered with people writing messages in the place with permanent marker. It’s actually really fun, write your names on a seat with a beer in your hand and you felt like you left your mark. They also have complimentary peanuts… like you sit there and actually break the nut out of the shell and leave it on your table, someone comes by to clean it up before your meal.
They also have a a place to eat that is a buffet style, also casual but nice.
My mother and her boyfriend also came here recently and had a blast. They are dying to go back.
Idk personally I love this place and can’t picture myself staying anywhere else in Myrtle Beach. If your a person who wants to have a good time and likes to drink and party this is the place for you. I will be back!

We had a great time here. I mean, you get what you pay for. My room was clean, I had a great ocean view. The only thing I didnt like was the late night fireworks, at first it was okay, on the second night it was still cool but that third night we had enuff. the fireworks didnt stop till 1am. The hotel is right on the beach. If you like the finer things in life then pay more & go somewhere else.

CAUTION! They make you pay upfront for the entire stay when you check in! And I now know why! I travel for business and have to say that this hotel was seriously the most disgusting, dirty, smelly place I have ever stayed in! If I could leave a ‘0’ star rating, I would! When I saw and smelled the condition of my room-​I went down to the front desk, asked for the manager hoping that a room change would help. They showed me a couple of other rooms, which unfortunately was not making the situation any better. I then asked for my money back – realizing I needed to find another hotel-​PRONTO! That was when I was told I would not get my money back.
I’m just saying: If you are going to Myrtle Beach – do yourself a favor — LOOK FOR OTHER ACCOMMODATIONS!

Is this place for real?
Ok, let’s talk about the room first. It was outdated, faded, and really disgusting. For what we paid, you would think that they would have enough money to update things. It was also extremely loud — people running up and down the hallway all night, and you could smell the cigarette smoke sneaking in under the door.
Now, the service. The reception desk was always extremely busy because they run several hotel buildings out of 1 reception location. It was almost like a line at Disney World. Also, on day 2, we found out that our room had been double-​booked, when another family came into our room (while one of my friends was in the shower, and the other was in a towel, no less). After calling the reception desk to figure out what happened, the manager told us that it was our fault, and that we shouldn’t have been in that room. Apparently, they had accidentally given us a suite, but how were we supposed to know? The manager was very rude to my friend and to the family that they sent to our room (luckily, this family was really cool). I guess they must have missed that chapter of business management where the «customer is always right.» Or maybe they don’t teach that at DeVry?
As compensation, they gave us $ 50 on a «hotel money» card. So, we decided to go out to dinner at one of the hotel restaurants, only to find out that the bad service continued there. Our server just stared at us, did not greet us, and refused to give us drink refills.
Please stay somewhere else when you come to Myrtle Beach. This hotel made me not ever want to return to Myrtle, but I’m sure I will eventually.

Oh Sands… I have such good memories of this place but if you don’t upgrade… people will really stop coming.
It used to be really nice here but now its just, not. Staff is nice though. They have a spa and a restaurant and tiki bar and lazy river on-​site, but nothing could make me go in that water, lol! Warning, the tiki bar will play «margariteville at least 100x a day.» Don’t plan on sleeping in!

Got stuck in Myrtle Beach during the January 2011 winter storm … This hotel came up as one of the cheapest in Expedia, with 3-​stars. Hotel was not impressive –felt outdated, and a stale smell. Staff was friendly, including the front desk, bartender, and ran into the owner at the bar for an impromptu karoke night. Rooms were okay, carpet needs to be cleaned/​replaced. The hotel is clearly going through some renovations — the vanity/​in-​room furniture was updated, and looked out of place. New paint and comforters were being updated around the hotel as well.

We had never been to Myrtle Beach before and decided to go on our honeymoon /​anniversary weekend! We thought that «Sands» and «Resort» being in the name meant staying in luxury; but it really meant overpriced and under-​quality.
Personally, I’ve been at nicer La Quinta’s. This place was very pricey, rooms were questionably clean (bleh). The cupboard doors in the tiny kitchen and bathroom areas were more worn and crumbling than I ever let my trailer park rental get when I was a teenager, for crying out loud.
The most shocking part for me was that the broadband Internet access is more censored than in China. Seriously, I kid you not. This is an oceanside resort with less than 10 children in the whole place… in a town that has strip clubs… in a hotel that allows smoking in the lobbies on all floors and the inside «21 and over» bar… but you can’t even get to half of the Internet! I mean, I wasn’t looking for anything ‘hardcore’, just trying to update a client’s website and check a few others I belong to… nothing, nadda. More restricted Internet access than at Disney.
The hotel desk’s response, «Sorry, you’ll just have to deal with it.» Rudest front desk person I’ve ever encountered at any hotel, by the way. You’d think for nearly $ 200/​night I’d get more than a friendly bellhop. :(
Did a little bit of research on the part of the Internet that’s not blocked, it seems they are not actually a part of the world famous «Las Vegas — Sands» resort chains (ticker «LVS»)…it’s a cheap knockoff. :(Too bad, it was recommended by a friend but not a good friend… lol. Live and learn.
I jogged up and down the beach for about a mile each way… unfortunately if you want to stay on the beach in Myrtle Beach, this is the only place with restaurants and bars for miles. Having been to Myrtle Beach, it’s not worth it in my opinion. Give me Hilton Head, Isle of Palms, Charleston… or those great Florida beaches that know how to do things right!
We had a good anniversary anyway but sheesh… Internet censorship, worn furniture and carpet, inadequate parking, rude front desk, and not one quality restaurant in the whole resort… really?

Got my voucher yesterday! This hotel really went above and beyond for us. 5 stars for impeccable service!

Hotel staff has always been extremely friendly. The hotel itself is it or miss. Some rooms are nice and others are pretty run down. The outdoor bar Ocean Annies is what keeps people coming back. Great people watching. Sandals, the indoor bar, gets packed after Annies closes.
