Uptown Cheapskate

I will never go to Downtown Cheapskate after the serve or the lack of service I received at the Fashion Place location. I brought close in for the first time and made the assumption that it would be an easy process. The first employee told me to bring all of my stuff in and once I hauled everything in another employees said that they would not have time to look at it today. It was noon! I asked if I could leave it with them, because it was so much work to carry everything back to my car and they said no.
I ended up taking my things back and donating them. I would rather see my beautiful cloths go to those in need than to give a penny to this company. I hope the owners read these post and realize that they have unwelcoming and incompetent employees. Not only did they not get my clothing they also lost a customer.

Look elsewhere to sell your items.
I took a very large tote full of items, probably worth over $ 200, into the store on June 13. I told the young girl who took my items that I did not want her to take the tote that all of the items were in, it was an important tote and wasn’t for sale. She said no problem. She told me I could wait in the store for them to go through my things, or I would get a courtesy call letting me know when my items were ready to pick up. Three days went by and I never got a call, so I rang them to ask if my things were ready. They said yes, come in anytime and pick up your remaining items — they apologized saying that the girl working that day forgot to call me. I told them I wouldn’t be able to pick up the items for another couple of days and she said she would make note of it and that is fine, she said «come in anytime». I went in to pick up my $ 17 and my remaining items to find that everything has been donated and I was never notified… Never received a phone call or an email.
When I was clearly upset, all the employees could tell me was that it was their policy that if customers don’t pick up their items within 3 days they would be donated, and told me to go to the Savers down the road and see if I could find my items.
It would be understandable to have this happen if I had clearly understood their «policies» but they were never explained to me by the girl working on June 13. This company really needs to work on training their employees to clearly explain policies when other people’s belongings are at stake, and to work on customer service. Yes, I’m aware I took the items there to sell because I didn’t want them anymore. What I’m more upset about is how this company handled everything.
From every situation there can be something gained… I guess this time it’s a whopping $ 17 and a lesson learned to never bring items here again.

If I could give this store less than one star, I would! I have shopped at this store before without a problem. I’d never had a great experience but hadn’t had a bad one either, and so when I found myself in a position that I was in need of a little extra cash, I loaded up quite a few items of my clothing and took it to the store to sell. I made sure that I gathered items that are listed on their website such as designer jeans (Miss Me & Rock Revival), skirts (Guess, Miss Me & AE), dresses (nice dresses) and then I gathered shirts that had been purchased at H&M, A Eagle, Aeropostale and Forever 21 (MOST HAVE NEVER BEEN WORN), a Prague purse and then some other items that were University of Utah attire whether sweatshirts, yoga pants or t-​shirts. After getting to the store at 6:05pm and being told I would have a 2 hour wait, which I understood, they called my name and told me they were not buying anything from my bin because it was not what they were looking for. She pulled out a pair of my heels and said they weren’t taking open toed heels, another pair of heels had a zebra print and she said they don’t take zebra print items. She then grabbed one of the tops from the dresses, and said it was stained… at the time I was mortified because I noticed people walking by listening to her and I wondered if I overlooked some kind of stain but upon returning home and looking at the top, there was not a stain!!! After she told me the things I just mentioned, she went on to say my items were not stylish and so they didn’t want them. I was really caught off guard by the ongoing remarks or excuses as to why they weren’t buying anything, while other shoppers were nearby listening and watching. I could have understood if I were arguing with her or disputing their decision, but I wasn’t. I am well aware that it’s their choice whether or not they want to buy the items and they didn’t owe me a thing, so I definitely would have been just fine without any explanation. When she was done talking… I couldn’t grab the big ol’ heavy bin of clothes fast enough and get out to my car and away from the store. I will never return to this store again and I would recommend you save yourself the experience as well. I know for myself that I was already feeling pretty down in the dumps due to my current situation and just the fact that I am struggling a little right now in my life, had my self-​esteem pretty low and this definitely didn’t help me feel any better! I wouldn’t have been so hurt or shocked if I hadn’t gathered items they claim on the website to want but walking in I felt confident that the items wouldn’t be a waste of time for anyone but turns out that I was wrong. On the bright side, I came home and took pictures of all the items and they are available on OfferUp app for anyone interested. Turn lemon into lemonade, right?

They gave me $ 20 for 7 tops all in brand new condition including a $ 150 jersey and a $ 120 sweatshirt

I’ve never tried selling clothes before but I thought I would give it a shot. I came in with a lot of good stuff, like 2 brand new dresses with tags, never used Sperrys, leather boots, a JCrew sweater, etc. It took 20 minutes to decide how much they would give me for the items I brought (but I wasn’t allowed to give input) and then they called me up and said they would offer me $ 75 for 16 items. It was a good chunk of money but still wasn’t what I was expecting. I guess that’s just what they can offer. However I was impressed with the cleanliness of the store and the organization of the clothes. Color-​coded, item sorted, and it didn’t make me feel overloaded (lol). I would probably come back here if I didn’t sell big ticket brand name items, just stuff like from Forever 21 and such. Not too bad for a first experience though, I would say :)

I never thought I’d enjoy shopping second hand, but i’ve now bought 7 dresses at this location. I do always feel like my clothes arent ‘high end’ enough for them to take, and thats disappointing, but I think i’ve sold a total of 35 $ in store credit by now. For the most part the employees are really nice and helpful. Warning though: DONT GO IN DURING BUSY HOURS AND EXPECT YOUR CLOTHS TO BE GONE THROUGH QUICKLY. If you have a lot of stuff, and it’s really busy it takes time. I think the longest I’ve had to wait is 45 minutes in store, but I normally go in around 1:00pm. I do wish their XL selection was better, but theres not much they can do about that. Also, for it being second hand I think they can even lower some of their prices even more. Im sorry about Im not paying 13 $ for a used old navy dress. Overall, it’s a lot easier to buy clothes then sell them, and the store looks really nice and well kept.

Great selection and an awesome staff! The store is organized and clean and I found some awesome Steve Madden boots that I wear almost every day. I also snagged a Michael kors purse for $ 70.

This store has been my go-​to for about a year now. They always have something that I like and fits well for a great price. They are also very friendly and will help you get the style you want. Not even the other Uptown locations can beat these guys.

Love this place! Even though I don’t make it in more than twice a month I always manage to find a few things whenever I do stop in. This store is awesome when you want stylish but great quality items for a cheap price.

I’ve been to this location now several times. Perhaps if you follow my review journey you’ll remember the humdinger review I left for the downtown location. It was bad. I wouldn’t go back into that store for less then $ 10,000.
I assumed for a while that all the locations would be similar. However, not all are created equally.
I was greeted, I found handfuls of things to try, I was ushered to a fitting room, complimented on my choices and checked out efficiently after making my final selections. Done and done. And I didn’t once feel out of place or not cool enough to be shopping there. I was surprised that they had a fairly decent selection of Large tops, many thrift places don’t purchase anything that’s bigger then a medium. So I’m very happy for that — I have a DDD chest people, even at my slimmest I can’t stuff these bad boys into a medium.
Avoid downtown at all costs and try this location!

I have never bought anything at a second hand store before, but they have a great selection on clothes here. I like coming here to find additions to my wardrobe. Just sometimes you’ll find an item that needs a little fixing or is a little too worn. That’s why 4 stars…

They pay almost nothing for clothes, take 40 minutes to sell too, the employees are full of themselves and rude, the clothes are way to expensive for being used, and for how picky they are about what they buy they have tons of hideous clothes.
Never again.

I had never been to an Uptown Cheapskate before. Reminded me of a Plato’s but slightly more high end. I wanted to comment on how friendly the staff was when I came in (I only came in to shop, not sell). One of the girls walked me over to what I was looking for. Another one asked me if there was anything she could help me find… Anyways, I ended up finding what I needed for a fraction of the full price. I mean, this is why we shop second hand, right? I’ll come back in a couple weeks to see if they have any new merchandise.

Every thrift shop type clothing store I’ve been to has never impressed me until I came here. The store is very big, organized, clean and the staff is great! Not to mention, the prices are amazing!

I don’t frequent second handstores, but I’ve been to several and have generally not been particularly impressed. But Uptown Cheapskate surprised me. It is clean, very clean in fact, and well organized. The men’s area could be a little better organized, if I’m being honest, but it is a secondhand store after all and not a department store, so I’ll have to give them some leniency.
I’ve sold items twice now and they always buy a few things from me. It usually takes them 20 minutes or so to go through my things so I do some shopping while I wait. When you sell items if you opt for store credit you’ll get more bang for your buck, so I do that and then try and find something in the store that I like.
Their men’s section is pretty small. It seems to be only about ¹⁄₃ of the store. So there is a lot more clothing available in the women’s section. Prices are reasonable (sometimes downright cheap) and the selection and condition of the clothing is good. Most clothes appear to be new or in like new condition. Staff is friendly and helpful.

This store is fantastic! I came here to find a little black dress to wear to my sister’s wedding, and ended up going home with three dresses, shoes, and a scarf for $ 35! They didn’t give me a limit on how much clothing I could take in the dressing room so while I was trying on 20+ black dresses, I checked in on Unilocal and got a coupon for a FREE Scarf! Turns out, the scarf I picked out was perfect for my sister’s wedding, and went perfect with my dress. I got compliments all day on my little black dress and no one knew I got it for $ 11! :D

I absolutely love this store! I always shop here first when I am needing a particular item of clothing and usually leave with an armful of darling name brand stuff. It’s always a fun shopping experience and you just can’t beat their prices!

They have some awesome stuff and at a good price, lots of bang for my buck! I came in trading some clothes as I was wanting some new pieces for my closet. I looked online and read what types of things they buy– styles, brands, prints, etc. Sadly, when I brought in some clothes, they only took my stuff from places like Forever 21and H&M; they left my Banana Republic, Diesel, Express, Mavi, J Crew and other brands and items that met their requests. Not a big deal, but thought it odd. The prices they pay isn’t too great, but for trade in on top of their low prices makes it a deal! The staff was nice, the wait time was ridiculous, like 2 hours though. Since the store has a lot in it, you can actually spend that amount of time in there. The bummer part was they didn’t have any badass or cute shoes in my size. Better luck next time!

I do understand that this is a business and they need to make money, with that being said I feel like I got ripped off for what I brought in. I feel the trade value is more fair at other consignment stores. Also the workers were kind of nice but I felt like I was bothering them by coming in.

Lots of really good stuff and very clean and organized. Staff offered to help right away.
Will be coming back!
