Love their milk tea and pineapple fried rice. Also their wonton soup is delicious. I think they put msg in their soup so 1 star knocked off for that.

Quick summary, came here for lunch, food was alright, service could be better. They have a decent priced menu with daily specials and lots of options. We got the salt and pepper fish and the the baked fish with corn. The food came out quickly, in terms of taste, pretty standard. The service I thought was not so great. They weren’t all out rude, but all the ladies were curt and direct as expected with Canto Chinese eateries. Looking for cheap Hong Kong style comfort food, with the experience, try it out.

It hurts me to write this review but I cannot unsee what I have seen. I love their curry chicken and Malaysian string beans although it’s hit of miss depending on who’s in the kitchen that day. The other day I wasn’t feeling so great so came in for a quick dinner of noodle soup. The resto smelled strongly of cleaning solution, a man was cleaning/changing out the overhead kitchen vents and was standing on the edge of the stove with his shoes on. I sat down for a few seconds, looked at my husband who was disgusted by the overwhelming chemical smell, and we left right after the menus were set down. A few months ago while I was dining there, a staff member walked by dragging on the floor behind him a string attached to a rectangular shallow bucket full of raw meat. I’m fine with many things and understand hygiene and cleanliness is not the topmost priority in Asian restaurants: I’ve accepted this and many times, look the other way when I see a dirty bathroom or staff touching their faces/smoking outdoors. But SHOES on the edge of a stove during prime dining hours and dragging raw meat in a not-so-clean-looking bucket on the floor is pretty horrifying to see. It makes me wonder what goes on when there aren’t diners here! This used to be my go-to place for HK comfort food in Mtn View but I had to walk out of there after I saw what I did this week. And I don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon.

One great Chinese restaurant although a little weird because of their menu. The ambience was good and the place is very well lit and clean. It was my first time coming here yesterday with a buddy of mine and he was telling me about this place on how peculiar it is about their menu. They have Macaroni and cheese on top of their Chinese food menu and i saw it as well. and it reminded of the Japanese mixed with western style food influence called a «Yoshoku» dining but I didn’t mind. The food was great and it was plentiful and it could feed at least 4 people so i ate only half of my order and I brought the other half hone thanks to a container that they provided. Overall it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend this place.

No I’m sorry I won’t tip you over 25% for crappy service. So don’t give me looks when I ask for change on a 20 :)

Got some kind of food poison from the lunch item i had here. Either it was the free milk tea or the lunch special i had here. Shortly after an hour or so my stomach is giving me really bad vibes.

If you’ve been to Hong Kong, this is totally Café de Coral-ish. You get good portions and it’s not too much $. It’s the Hong Kong version of Denny’s. If you aren’t familiar with Hong Kong style diner food make sure you ask questions, because the descriptions of the food are not completely accurate. I got the Beef Congee and Chinese Donut; It was as expected. My boy got the«Teriyaki Chicken». If you are Japanese, you would be appalled, because it in no way resembled or tasted anything like teriyaki. It was more like a curry-ish gravy on some chicken over rice. Again, if your are not familiar with Hong Kong style diner food, don’t expect Japanese or American restaurant style menu items(even if the descriptions are familiar) and you’ll be just fine. Bottom line: if you are craving Hong Kong style diner food and are you are on the Peninsula and not in the East Bay, this should satisfy your needs.

HK Bistro does a good job of what I termed«HK café-style type food» — essentially the equivalent of a greasy US-diner-style food. My sense is some people who don’t like the food here may not know what to order or have different expectations. Our family doesn’t come here to indulge in gourmet or healthy cuisine; rather, it’s comfort food or a late-night treat. What we like: 1) Beef chow fun — literally«dried fried beef with wide rice noodles» — the beef is tender here and both it and the noodles are nicely carmelized. We actually ask for this with less salt and less oil and they actually accommodate us – unusual for a Chinese place. 2) Pretty decent noodle with dumpling dishes — e.g. wonton 3) Perserved egg with pork congee — this is a HK classic and while the egg is somewhat of an acquired taste, quite good. Have it with the«chinese donut.» Put the donut in your bowl, ladle the congee over it, let is sit for a few minutes, then dig in. The texture of the congee is not the best — we do it better at home — but the flavors are fine. 4) Chinese greens — this is stir-fried with oyster and other sauces in the menu but we have asked for this steamed plain and they will do it. This is because our family tends to eat some vegetable with every meal and we don’t want an oil-laden dish when we are already eating other greasy foods. 5) Singapore curry noodles 6) Milk tea — iced or hot, again — another HK classic; not too sweet, which is how I like it Other things that are classics we have not tried: baked dishes, macaroni dishes A plus to this place is the service is usually quick and reasonable for a Chinese restaurant.

Good portion sizes. Their pork congee with preserved egg was really good, as was their dumpling soup. I ordered the tomato sauce ox tongue over rice and it came out completely blackened and hard. I asked for a refund because it was inedible, which they gave me without any complaint. Long story short: Pretty good, just don’t get the ox tongue.

Here for a early din din, had their hai Nan chicken, quite descent. They serve it with proper minced ginger and green onion, and I like their HK milk tea.

Spicy string beans — great House chicken — decent, love the ginger sauce Tofu with sauce — meh I can’t really tell if I like the place so I’ll try it out again before making any conclusions, although a club sandwich on a Chinese menu does not inspire confidence.

Basic HK comfort food place in downtown Mountain View. Pretty extensive menu of rice, noodles, and assorted variety of dishes. Service was good, food was decent but nothing to write about… oh, wait. I had the noodles with wontons and roast duck. Good enough — duck was less fatty than usual, wonton was ok, soup was a bit bland. Price and portions were very reasonable. Go for some comfort food.

If you’re craving HK food, this place hits the spot. I think I’ll come here again for a casual meal whenever I have cravings. My bf and I ordered: Beef Chow Fun and Grilled Short Ribs. The beef chow fun was pretty decent. I feel like this dish is general greasy, so you can’t really dock points off for it. Meat isn’t too great, but hey, it’s less than 8bucks! Portion is also great for the price and location. I was initially disappointed with the portion size. since my favorite place in TX gives you a MASSIVE plate spilling portion… but then I remembered this is Silicon Valley. I wish there were more veggies in here though. It only comes with onions and bean sprouts. Grilled Short Ribs. What. the heck is this. For some odd reason, I was thinking this was the sizzling short ribs you’d get at a typical chinese restaurant. I guess I was expecting too much for something that was priced for 10bucks(lols). Anyway, it came with a side of steamed veggies(broccoli and baby corn) and a small cup of gravy. The gravy tasted kinda weird. I’ve never had anything like this when I was growing up nor whenever I visit HK, but it’s not bad. I wouldn’t order this again though. For the location/entrée choices/price… I’d give it 3.5 stars. I’ll bump it up to 4 because really, you can’t expect too much for the entrée prices.

This place hits the spot every time I crave some cantonese style food. It’s not the best in the world but it’s definitely not the worst. I would say it’s average for food but every time I’ve been here, I’ve left content :) Most of your Hong Kong style dishes/cantonese dishes, you can get here. It’s greasy, cheap, and filling. Their portions are generous and their prices are great. They have dinner specials that are so worth it. For about $ 8 you can get something fresh and filling. I also enjoy their drinks too. Their iced coffee and hot lemon tea are good. I especially like the tea because it helps to wash away the greasiness. The service here is fast and efficient. They take card which is amazing because usually these places only accept cash. HK Bistro has easily become one of my most frequented place on Castro Street and I recommend it if you’re looking for something fast and cheap.

I rarely give 3 stars to authentic HK restaurants since the ones I go to are already Unilocal-filtered and prequalified. The reason my gf and I went to this one was because the last Mountain View shuttle bus never came(We were gonna go to Chef Zhao’s…) My gf ordered the daily special«Baked Creamy Fish Fillet» with rice, and I got the Ribeye Steak with Black Pepper sauce and rice, plus Iced Lemon Tea and Hot Milk Tea for drinks. We also ordered a Fried Tofu appetizer. For HK-Western style restaurants, the beverages are pretty good as usual. Nothing wrong there other than the waiter brought us Iced Milk Tea. Daily special was OK as well since it’s my gf’s dish, and of course I dig into it… too much gluten for my liking. Now here comes my «medium» Ribeye. Errr I can tell right away it’s well-done. To be honest, it’s expected based on my 10+ years of HK-Western food experience in Hong Kong. The veggies on the side made this dish looked even more horrifying with no arrangements. It looked like they just threw it there from the cooking basket right out. And the sauce… as gluten as it gets, just like the«cream» of my gf’s dish. The tofu appetizer was just okay as well, according to my gf who is a regular here. No winners tonight. I will come again ordering other popular dishes like Baked Pork Chop Rice and review again. But steaks in HK restaurants are no-nos.

This is a very good option for a quick Hong Kong style meal. If you are looking for a place after all the other restaurants close at 9 pm then they offer service until 12 midnight.

Special treatment isn’t always a good thing. I ordered the Sunday daily special, the Sauteed Steak Cubes with Honey Pepper Sauce($ 10.50). This came with a choice of rice or spaghetti noodles; I chose the latter. All specials include soup and a choice of lemon tea or milk tea. Everybody else in the group ordered off the regular menu. My tea, soup and entrée came before anybody else got their food. It was a little awkward waiting there while nobody else had food. Everybody else’s food came after a few more minutes. My tea was nice and sweet with a hint of lemon. The tomato beef soup was hearty and not too salty. I found it humorous that my entrée consisted of sauteed beef and bell peppers on one plate, and plain boiled spaghetti noodles on another plate. Mixing everything together didn’t make the noodles taste less plain. The beef at least was tender and flavorful. Everybody else’s dishes were totally bland. The wife ordered the Scrambled Egg and Beef Over Rice($ 7.25) and only wanted to eat a few bites. I tried some, and let’s just say I never knew eggs could be so devoid of taste. So yes, it seemed like I got special treatment by ordering the daily special, but they still managed to accidentally(?) charge me for the tea that was supposed to be included with my special. Be sure to double-check your bill! Or better yet, skip this place in favor of something everybody will enjoy.

有冇搞錯!! JAUMOUGAAUCO!!! I sure as hell wanted to shout this out when I saw the food that I ordered. I am VERYPICKY when it comes to HK style café food. I know it’s not your typical ideal choice for top gourmet, but damn, I love it! I could eat it daily but I would get hella fat within a week. Let’s do the Unilocal star rating game shall we? Let’s start with 5 stars. Décor(No star lost nor gained): Ehhh…typical. Not that big but I got placed at the kiddy table towards the back. Food(Minus 3 stars): –Salt and Pepper Tofu — There was neither salt nor pepper. I’m dead serious. –Black Pepper Chicken Steak — Look at the picture I posted. Enough said. –Baked pork chop with tomato sauce — Decent but other places make it much better. Service:(Minus 1 star) Of course you can’t expect premium service from a Hong Kong café, but I always hope to be proven wrong. Well, this place isn’t an exception. The workers aren’t very attentive, and they look like they can’t wait to get off so they can go home and play League of Legends or something. Yes, I had to walk up to the cashier to give him the check or else I would have waited until my hair turned grey. Conclusion: You get a total of one star. I actually felt like puking after I left.
