History

Established in 1983.

Established in 1983 Gilman Screen Co. was born as a hardware store in 1954 in San Francisco and its owner in the 1970s turned it into a window and door screen company.

In 1983 Dick Gilman sold Gilman Screen Co. to Larry Lowenthal. Larry had a very successful first year in business and realized that he was working with a lot of general contractors who were doing work on homes throughout San Francisco.

In 1984 Larry moved out of his shared warehouse location on Donnor Ave. to a new warehouse on Napoleon St. and added some kitchen and bath cabinet displays. He felt that he could sell cabinets to the same contractors that were currently buying screens from him. It was a small but growing company and did not have any employees.

In 1985 Larry hired his first sales person whose responsibilities included cabinet sales and window screen manufacturing. In 1988 Larry moved the store to its current 5000 square foot location on Bayshore Blvd. and hired his first kitchen designer. Soon 4 other loca

Business Owner

I have been in the kitchen and bath business for close to 35 years and owned Gilmans for 29 years. I try to make all of our customers happy and am successful most of the time. I feel great when I receive a letter complimenting any one of my staff on a job well done. When we do have a complaint, I hope it can be solved the happiness of the customer. I have been in retail all of my life, in fact, I was born and raised here in San Francisco and have many friends here and on the Peninsula.

I am an active member of the Foster City Rotary club, president in 2007 – 2008.

In 2009. I was named business person of the year with the SEN Design Group in 2010.
