Firebird an award-​winning Bay Area dance school and performing company. We have been sharing our passion for dance with students and audiences since 1991.

Our unique dance program for ages 14 months to adult is a blend of contemporary-​folk dancing, lyrical, modern, ballroom, and Latin dance. All group classes teach technique, choreography, and rhythm. Students ages 3 and up also have the opportunity to perform several times each season. In the past, Firebird dancers have performed at such Bay Area venues as the Palace of Fine Arts, Zellerbach Hall, SF City Hall, Heritage Theater, and many more. Our students have a great time while gaining confidence, character, individuality, friends, and a creative means of expression.

History

Established in 1991.

Among many other awards and honors, we have won Best of Mountain Award in the Performing Arts Category in 2012 and 2013 — two consecutive years!

In 2013, we moved to a beautiful, big new studio located at 1411 W. El Camino Real in Mountain View.

Firebird was founded by world-​renowned teacher and choreographer Roza Lysaya, and began as a small class of 6 students, focusing on traditional folk dances from Russia and around the world. Fast forward to the present: we now have well over 100 participants ranging from 14-​month-​olds to the adults in our performing dance troupe, Firebird Dance Theater. Under the direction of Lotta Lysaya Burton since 1999, Firebird has continued to expand with more classes and performances, and win over audiences locally, nationally, and around the world. Our repertoire of dances and classes has broadened into a unique program with a fusion of modern, folk, lyrical, ballet, and ballroom dance, and is taught by dedicated, talented instructors.
