DirectBuy of Silicon Valley

We came to DirectBuy when we bought our home and had a number of projects. We did not sign up for membership, but having witnessed they way they conduct business, I feel the obligation to warn others to stay away from this cult-​like place.
First, you have to make an appointment to sit through a long presentation and sales pitch where you hear about how much money you can save. I don’t have proof, but I’m almost certain there were hired actors in the audience who later «sign up» for membership. Our group presentation ended close to lunch time, where we were then split up by couples and individual sales agents now push you uncomfortably hard to get you to shell out the $ 7−8K membership fee. No, you can’t grab lunch because food deprivation is one of the techniques they use to get you to a vulnerable state. If you leave the building, you are added to a «list» and can never return. Seriously.
They give you a tour of all the seemingly outdated catalogues around the store, but it’s all for show because you can’t look into any of them. When asked why we can’t take a quick look, we were told that «only members are allowed to see how much money they can save.» About an hour later, the manager comes by and whispers loudly to our sales person that another couple has joined. I really think these are actors, who later start shopping right in your sight of vision. Then the manager comes by and tells your sales person that the third couple also signed up, and you see them again start to shop. Why does our sales person need to know at that moment that someone else has signed up?
We had a list of appliances that we had ordered that week, and asked if they can prove to us that we’ll actually save money. The manager took our list and came back about 30 minutes later with a piece of paper that said something like –150 and –100, showing the amount of money we would save in each appliance, but with no other details. I guess the third item was not available. When asked if he can show me the catalogue to verify that it’s the same item, he said no. When asked if that price includes shipping and taxes, he said no and refused to tell me how much shipping would be.
Here’s the thing. Maybe they are cheaper than retail, but that is not good enough. Stores often go on sale, and people have the ability to shop around or negotiate lower prices.
At the end of the day, I do feel this place is a scam. A real business would not need to threaten potential members that they can never return if they don’t sign up the first time. And a real business would be willing to provide customers with enough information so they can make an educated decision, especially one that costs thousands of dollars.

DirectBuy of Silicon Valley has been a great resource for our recent construction project. We purchased entire kitchen cabinets, major appliances, lighting fixtures, bathroom vanities, entrance door, flooring, natural stone slabs and tiles from DirectBuy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The cabinet designer John was extremely patient with us, going though many revisions of cabinet layouts. Danielle at ordering service desk has been very helpful, providing excellent customer service. The ordering process is fast and transparent. We got great prices on all the items we purchased. The savings for us has been phenomenal. We highly recommend this place for any major remodel or new construction projects. It’s a convenient one-​stop shop for brand-​name, top-​line, such as Thermador, Omega Cabinets, JeldWen, Hinkley, and Rombow products at great prices.

So I have to admit I was very nervous about how this whole kitchen remodel was going to go working with a company like DirectBuy. WOW, their customer service has been right on top of everything. My parents were directbuy members and when they started offering family memberships, my husband and I decided to get on their membership since we needed a bunch of new furniture. Everyone in this office is fantastic. We worked with Cory and Carl while placing our order. And they were both amazing.
I wanted to see if it actually saves a lot of money so I was googling everything while we were deciding what to order.
We saved about $ 2,800 on the couch we ordered, $ 800 on the cocktail table and about $ 3000 on the mattress and box spring. It’s worth it to get the quality of furniture that they offer.
Carl who happens to be the warehouse manager has been nothing short of amazing since then. There have been a few issues with the cocktail table since we ordered it but he always catches the issue before we go to pick it up and keeps us updated on what’s going on. Hopefully, the manufacturer can get their stuff together and we can enjoy all of our new furniture as much as we’ve enjoyed our couch and bed.
We had the couch delivered to our home in oakland and while it is pricey it’s worth it. I would not have wanted to even try to get it in the door without professional help. The guys that delivered it were super friendly and professional. It was not an easy delivery (a second story walk up with a door that doesn’t open all the way) but they never complained.
I’m not sure what the normal membership costs, but the quality of furniture and amazing customer service is worth every dollar we paid to join my family’s membership

We decided it would be a good idea to get a DirectBuy membership since we are remodeling two bathrooms. After spending $ 7,000 (yes, that’s the correct number of zeros) for a three year membership, we only bought one item and it’s not related to the bathroom. Since you have to order from catalogs, there’s not much chance to see what you’re getting, aside from the samples they have in the office. If you’re not the type of person who can imagine something in your head, you’re wasting your money here. The savings aren’t that big and they sock you with extra processing/​shipping, etc. fees when you order online. The only good things I can say is the office is very organized and the employees seem nice. But please; do yourself a favor and don’t get suckered into spending thousands for a membership here!!!

We have been working with the Direct Buy team for about six months thus far. Cody has completely saved me from so many errors made by myself — he knows all of the products and has made fantastic recommendations. And unbelievably he always stays patient and works with all the vendors with my best interest to resolve anything that comes up.
If you are remodeling a significant portion of your home or building an entire new home — this is a serious cost savings opportunity.

We are building a new home and joined DirectBuy about a year ago!
Our plan was to buy premium products for a lower price and end up with a high end appliances, floors, carpets, drapes etc. at a great price. The plan is working and we couldn’t be happier! The service is fantastic — Cody is a great guy and always knows how to help us find what we want… even if we aren’t exactly sure what we are looking for.
If you are doing a major renovation or just upgrading your house with new appliance, this is a great deal.
I needed paint, lots of it. I walked into the paint store and showed them my discount card and got a significant discount. I picked a light grey for my new master bath — it looks great!
We have been working really hard the last few years… logged onto DirectBuy Travel and booked a cruise leaving from Venice and landing in Barcelona.

I too would like to give them zero stars, or negitive stars even. I bought into their sales pitch and have had buyers remorse ever since. Worst customer service ever. I think they take a course on how not to be helpful. Hidden fees everywhere, shipping is outrageous, and did I mention poor customer service?
Stay away. Use other places that employ people that know what they are talking about.

We have been members of Direct Buy for 7 years. Cherrese is my «go to» person when making any purchases for our home. She is the BEST! Cherrese helps me navigate through my selections, answers emails and phone calls promptly and is a delight to work with! Our membership dues were easily recovered within our first year.

Jenifer has been a great help. I’m always trying to get an order in «right away» and she cheerfully gets back to me and gets it done. DirectBuy has been a good experience for me overall.

DirectBuy in Mountain View has been absolutely worth our investment! We joined this year. We are building a home, and have recovered our 10 year-​membership dues and then some with just our kitchen cabinet order! DirectBuy is super convenient and the staff is absolutely amazing. We have been working with John and Josh extensively for the kitchen and doors/​windows, respectively. Everyone is very knowledgeable and make the home building process much easier. We also are using a designer that works closely with DirectBuy members, Ben, has been excellent as well.
To give you an example, I had my cabinets quoted at an authorized dealer of the same brand of cabinet close to Mountain View. They are very high quality cabinets. And DirectBuy price was $ 14,000 less expensive!
If you are doing a renovation or remodel or own property, DirectBuy is a no-​brainer. you will recover your membership cost and save thousands of dollars on top of that. We know people that also become members just for furniture purchases. Hundreds of vendors and catalogs to chose from.
The convenience of having everything you need for your home in one location, combined with expertise from the staff, makes directbuy a great place to shop. This particular location is managed very well, and both Paul and Mark do everything they can to make sure their members are happy.
The relationships that DirectBuy has with local and national vendors gives members almost limitless choices, you will find what you are looking for almost 100% of the time.

I’ve been a member for 4 years and today was the first time I’ve been disappointed with them. When it comes to getting quality items at a good price, they are great, but if you have a problem, don’t count on their customer service to fix it! We ordered a garage door and paid for installation, but the installation was poorly done and when we called to seek assistance their staff basically said it was our fault and that we were stupid to have expected quality installation given the price we paid. My husband was irate (to say the least). We learned the hard way that DirectBuy of Silicon Valley is only good for merchandise and not customer service!

We have been members for years. It’s great.
Especially wonderful when you get a wonderful person like Cheresse who helps you greatly.

Directbuy is not for everyone, but if you plan to remodel or build, and want a large selection of high quality products to choose from, then you can’t go wrong.
Notice most negative comments are from people who have not joined or used the membership the way it’s intended to. How is that a fair review?
I’ve been a member since 2007. Broke even on my investment in three years, and saved over twenty thousand dollars.
The team at Directbuy is always helpful. Never had a bad experience.
I should mention Cody. He is awesome, always helpful. He made us feel at ease, never rushed. I felt comfortable asking questions, and he always follow through until we get what we needed.
Wish more members would provide reviews. One of the best investments I’ve ever made.

I want to compliment DirectBuy on their Service staff. We have been remodeling a bathroom. Cody in the service area has been extremely patient with all of the ordering. He’s knowledgeable, professional, patient and provides quick responses. I can say that about all of the service staff there and also the Receiving department managed by Carl.
So thanks to Cody, Jennifer, Danielle, Charese, Carl and all our now «friends» at DirectBuy. it’s the place to go for large home projects. We’ve saved thousands of dollars over the years.

I have been a member for less than 6 months. At first, I was questioning myself if I made the right decision. I have heard about them when they first opened, but I wished I had checked them out a lot sooner. I have calculated my savings and I already made up my membership fee, and after comparison shopping for the items I need, my savings continue to pile up. Yes, I did go through a home remodel, though I did not buy all the things I needed either. I still found the savings to be substantial from flooring, appliances, tiles, electronic, window treatments. There are some items that they are more expensive, but not by much as mentioned in other posts (this is AFTER the handling fees are included), but just like any other store, like Walmart, they don’t have the cheapest for everything they sell either.
Most of the employees are friendly and helpful; in particular, Danielle, has been very helpful and finds a way to save you time. She’s always happy to help and with a smile. Mark, the owner, when around, checks in with you and sees how he could help.
DirectBuy membership model is not for everyone. There is an upfront cost, but looking at the big picture, it makes sense, especially if you like high end and quality products.

Direct Buy has been a huge help to us during our recent home renovation. This is because we were able to save so much money on our purchases after becoming a member. All that we have purchased had discounts of 30% to 50% as compared to any other retail stores. The savings we had was huge. In fact, we were able to save more than $ 5,000 on our new hardwood floors.
The staff was very welcoming and professional. They were informative as when we were shopping around for what we needed. Each staff had specific specialties and is knowledgeable in each areas, furniture, electronics, windows and etc. Being a member here was one of the best decisions we have made.

After sitting through an exhaustive mandatory presentation, where the presenter speaks to you as if you do not have a clue or a bean between your ears, my wife convinced me that this would be a beneficial purchase based on the fact that we were building a new home. The floor samples leave you limited.
Everyone we met with regarding windows, appliances etc. could not compete with the pricing I came up with; mind you I built a top of the line custom home.
This has to be the biggest scam I have ever seen and I wasted $ 7,000 on a membership with little to no benefits. Needless to say, nothing like this will ever enter my life again; my wife can leave if she tries.
This company doesn’t deserve a quarter of one star.
BEWARE…

Impressive customer service right from the beginning until the end.
I have placed an order for a new cabinet. I was called to notify me that my item would take a couple of weeks to arrive since they have to reorder it from their supplier. It wasn’t such a bad thing. At least, I know what to expect. To their credit, they called me again one week after to notify me that they already have the item I wanted and that they can arrange a delivery at a time and date of my choosing.
My new cabinet arrived this week at the same time and date that I wanted. I was impressed with the guys who delivered the cabinet and assembled it on the spot.
By the way, the cabinet looks great!

My Husband and i have been members here for almost 6 months now and where some great deals to be had I think the majority will only benefit if 1. You are either doing renovations or need to furnish a new house and 2. You prefer high end products over the cheap items you can get anywhere.
Luckily my Husband and I tick both boxes so we have made some good savings but quite often we have had to get price checks as the company promises ”the best prices anywhere” which we found not to be true a number of times. Also delivery charges are not included in this and some of the company’s that sell through Direct Buy charge extortionate amounts for some items. Something to take into consideration if you’re thinking of signing up.
The first contact we had with Direct But was a little over a year now where we got a cold call with an invite to an open house and as we were looking at buying a house we took them up on the offer and were told someone would get back to us with an exact date and time for the event. nobody ever did and we even tried chasing them up about it.
Fast forward 4 – 5 months and we attended a Unilocal open house here which gave us a good chance to look around (please note that this review is nothing to do with that event but my ongoing personal experience with the company). Shortly after this we returned to sign up for membership and were run though the workings of the company and had membership options and prices explained. One thing I must stress here is that once you are given this information you only have while you are in the building to decide if you want to accept or decline. You cannot go home and think about it as once you leave the building it is off the table for good, no second chances.
Of course, we accepted and have fairly happy with our membership so far. We have a brand new 4 bedroom house to furnish and so far have done pretty well at doing so though this company. I am not allowed to disclose prices due to terms of our agreement but I can say that I have completely kitted out my ”Chefs Kitchen” with Kitchen Aid everything and also my home Gym for a lot less than RRP prices.
Markdowns do vary greatly and some items you will only save a few bucks but overall I think some good deals can be had here.
