The Inn At I’ON

We stayed in room 10 at the Jacob Bonds house for two nights. We knew when we rented that the room did not have a refrigerator and with it being cold out, we were able to store drinks on the balcony to keep them cool! However, that will not be suggested for a summer day or evening in Mt Pleasant.
We found the Inn to be charming and much more affordable than downtown Charleston. We drove downtown several times due to the lack of distance and effort and enjoyed the ride over the bridge each time. It’s also close to Shem Creek which is a great spot for dinner and drinks. The room was clean, neat, and presented wonderfully after a 6 hour drive. The bathroom provided awesome toiletries! Greenwich Soap Co. from Raleigh makes awesome lotion and soap! They weren’t many others checked in at during our stay but we enjoyed the privacy and solitude offered.
Staff that we encountered were nice and helpful. We ate breakfast one morning and were not pleased so we skipped the next day. I had the fruit bowl and yogurt. It was exactly that and that’s ok. I just don’t eat much cantelope and the pineapple tasted odd. My husband had the chicken and waffle. He liked his. We did note that one of the apple jellies was covered in mold.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

We just checked out of the Inn at I’On a couple of days ago. I will say that it is lovely. We stayed in the Jacob Bond House Room 11. It is a suite and it is lovely. So I’m going to tell you all the positive things.
If you’ve ever been around the I’On neighborhood, then you know how pretty it is. There are a few shops and a pub and restaurant (square onion — deli
The breakfast at the Inn was hit and miss. The Jacob house, as pretty as it is, has downfalls — It is lit up like an airfield. If you want to turn on a light, it is overhead and too bright. No lamps in the sitting room area.
Biggest problem, owner is rude. He seems to be under a lot of stress. We won’t stay again.

I’m almost hesitant to write a review on this place because I want to keep it as my little getaway secret! After staying here the weekend I became engaged to my fiancé, I’ll never stay anywhere else when visiting Charleston. The community is adorable, the breakfast is PHENOM, and the staff is great too. Mike and Chauncey have always gone above and beyond anytime I’ve had questions or needed reservations. We’ve decided to have our wedding at the Creek Club at I’On (same owners) and our rehearsal dinner at Union Hall (the restaurant for the Inn). I’m in love with this place and I wish I could live here! They wouldn’t have to twist my arm to quit my job and move in to one of the rooms and work for the group that owns the Inn and the Creek Club. But seriously, if you don’t take advantage of the breakfast that’s INCLUDED with the room rentals, then you’re not doing this place justice.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for 3 days and would not again. A few things to be aware of:
1) The hotel does not permit check-​ins until 3 pm. They become rude if you ask for an earlier check-​in. They were even ruder and offered no help when we asked to simply leave our things in a room or closet. I have never been in a hotel, inn, or B&B that did not permit this or offer other such simple accommodations for their guests, especially given the rates.
2) In general, the staff is rude and unfriendly. Unfortunately, I also spoke with two of the owners and they were just as rude, unkind, unhelpful, and unaccommodating of simple requests. When we asked «Do you have the phone number to the restaurant across the street?» we were told «No. Why would I have that?» instead of something one might reasonably expect from hotel staff such as, «Let me look up that number for you.» When we asked «Do you have a reservation for (my last name)?» I was met with an unpleasant, unhelpful attitude and mockery because I gave my last name rather than my first. It’s quite a ridiculous place. That second example was a conversation I had with one of the owners, for the record.
3) The restaurant, Carter’s Kitchen, is little better. At brunch, we waited 20 minutes for a server to take our order, even though there were not more than 8 tables occupied. When we asked other servers to help, they did not take our order and proceeded to set tables and do other things. The shrimp and grits is dismal. Simply embarrassing for a southern restaurant. The other items on their menu are tolerable and some are quite nice.
There are a number of establishments in Charleston that offer beautiful rooms, easy access to the places you want to be, and far better service. I recommend looking elsewhere.

We spent five nights at the In at Ion and it was a perfect choice. It was beautifully designed and well maintained. The staff was helpful and friendly. The Innkeeper, Mike is a true Soutie gentleman. Oh and the breakfasts were sumptuous. We can’t wait to return

Three best friends decided to head to Charleston on a Southern sojourn. Our lodging of choice was the Inn at Ion based on the prior experience one of us had there a year ago. The Inn is conveniently and strategically located in a lovely upscale enclave of Mt Pleasant, close to major routes for easy access to the city as well as nearby islands. We were extremely pleased with the accommodations offered by the Inn. Parking is located close to the rooms and buildings — there are two buildings, the main inn and the Jacob Bond house — and numbered with the room numbers. The rooms are spacious, décor is well-​appointed exuding Southern elegance. The meals we ate at the Inn were delicious — I enjoyed she crab soup and crab cakes for a fine dinner one night. The dining room and veranda allow you you to savor your meal in gracious Southern style. Breakfast fare is well above average offerings at any hotel. The breakfasts are very hearty and offer a range to satisfy everyone in your party. The shrimp and grits are a must for those guests who do make the wise choice in staying here at this most lovely inn. I ate grits at upscale restaurants in the area but none matched the superbness of the grits at Carter’s Kitchen. The chef is considerably talented and inspired (he was in a smack-​down with Bobby Flay!) — this coming from a self-​professed foodie always in quest of the best regional favorites. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, Mike Russo the owner, was ever attentive to the needs of guests and was an excellent resource for us. We are extremely grateful to Mike and the staff at the Inn at Ion for making our stay in Charleston thoroughly enjoyable. It was heavenly to return to our immaculate, elegant rooms with lofty, comfy mattresses after long days of touring. Our only regrets were that we had to return home after our short get-​away and to have been so busy that we were not able to use the beautiful pool and gym facilities that we did check out. We are looking forward to the next stay at the Ion, whether it be with our families or with «the girls» again. The Inn at Ion is a much preferred elegant and personable option to the chain or other hotels that aspire to offer what this jewel does.

Parking is free, with assigned parking space matching your room number. We stayed in room 6 which had a queen bed and located on the 3^rd floor. The room was just as beautiful as shown on their website, the bath seemed bigger. — water pressure was wonderful. Each floor has hall doors to provide noise control — no corners were cut in building the place. One can use the stairs or elevators. The room was clean and on point with higher quality places. There are 7 rooms to pick from and they also have a house across the square with 4 rooms that are even larger. This building was built about 4 years ago but made to look old. The neighbor is a very planned area with homes at low end of $ 800k but most over 1M.
There is a Irish bar across street we popped into for a drink — just to mix it up since we were having dinner in the inn’s restaurant — Carter’s Kitchen. Note — that this was another reason I wanted to stay here. The chef had a throw down with Bobby Flay, and while we were there heard that the chef was written about in the Esquire Magazine (looked it up and is in article for, Best New Restaurants 2012). Highly recommend you eating here for dinner. If the seafood lasagna is on the menu /​was a Wednesday night special — get that — it was so good I wanted to lick the plate! Breakfast you mark on the menu the evening before to help out the limited kitchen staff. The restaurant is not open to the public for breakfast, only the guest staying there. Breakfast I recommend the sh imp and grits and country ham — I am not really a grits person, but I just can’t say enough how good they were. Note: no breakfast is provided on Mondays — restaurant/​kitchen is closed.
Made use of the private I’on Club down the street — it is walking distance. We went to check out the club prior to using the pool. Don’t forget to take your towels that are provided by the inn, ours were in a cabinet in our bathroom. When you get there you sign in, we were given a brief tour of the facility — young man was friendly. There are lockers with key to secure your personal items. Very clean and friendly people.
Very happy customer and have recommended already to a few people while in that area.

The service was impeccable! The room was clean and trendy. You choose your breakfast choices from a menu each night before and choose a time to be there. The breakfasts were awesome and take place in Carter’s Kitchen restaurant attached to the inn. The restaurant is beautiful and should be visited for dinner during your visit bc it is to die for! The community is very upscale and quiet. Also beautiful!

This is a beautiful Inn, away from the bustle of Charleston. It sits in a charming neighborhood of Mt. Pleasant. Around the Inn are a few dining options and shops. The area is quiet. Perfect for relaxing and walking around. Here are some notes from our stay:
–Check in is 3pm, they seemed pretty strict on this. We showed up at 2pm and had to wait.
–If you use the Creek Club pool (they give you comp access if you ask), you need to bring your own towels, as they are not provided in the club.
–Amazing breakfast, served in Carter’s Kitchen. You make a selection the night before from a small menu then note the time you are coming in the morning. Service was slow but the food was delicious. We had shrimp, sausage and grits and a beef skillet with eggs.
–Easy free parking
–Reasonable rate
Our room was in the Jacob Bond house, just across the street from the main house. There are only 4 rooms in that house. We were in room 8 on the lower level. It was spacious, clean and comfortable with a queen bed, even though it was a pull down style, it was really comfy. The room had huge windows, however the windows open right to the sidewalk, so you will need to keep the heavy curtains closed to avoid peepers. I’d suggest adding shears or blinds to this room, to allow more light and privacy.

They have a shiny, clean, safe, gorgeously decorated B&B. However, if you don’t serve breakfast, or have a alternative if it is an off day, then you are not a B&B. I booked a room here and was so excited to be staying at a nice place and not a hotel on an impromptu road trip we took. I was SO disappointed to find out they didn’t serve breakfast on Mondays — which is in the fine print but hard to see and confirm on an android device. The place was booked too, only one room left. Not serving your guests breakfast, when advertised as a B&B makes no sense. We are very well traveled and mostly stay at B&B’s. Never have I experienced not being catered to for breakfast. This was a learning experience, an annoying one because there are a lot of nice places to stay in Charleston.

what a beautiful, beautiful bed and breakfast! this place is far and away more charming, affordable, and unique than any of the places we looked at in downtown charleston– which is a hop and a skip away, mind you!
and SPEAKING of breakfast– holy muffins! cheese grits, eggs with steak and tacos, waffles, KILLER buttermilk biscuits, decadent cappuccinos, eggs benedict– all so incredibly fresh, hot, and delicious.
the room service kept everything spotless, the bathrooms were stupendous, complete with big tubs, the beds were the definition of comfortable, and the entire staff was just… well i wish i lived there and they could smile at me like that every day. from now on.
there are shops and bars just outside the door, the restaurant downstairs, the one with the insanely good breakfast– which is included in the price of the room so that you just order what you want the night before in manner of miss piggy– also has an incredible dinner menu.
top-​of-​the-​line pork chop. juicy. succulent. with hot apples. i’ve considered relocating from boston for that porkchop.
