Cadillac Mountain

Choose your time of day wisely. Or even better, take the trip more than once.
If going up for sunset, give your self an extra half hour or so to stop along the way to enjoy the view. It’s simply amazing.
The weather/​temp in the park was beautiful, but I wasn’t prepared for the strong winds and much colder temperatures at Cadillac’s summit. Come prepared.
Grab a cup of coffee or tea. Sit and enjoy at the mountain top.

I had many recommendations to check out the sunrise from this point. I heard that from the top, you are one of the first people in the United States to see the sunrise. We drove up early in the morning, on Labor day weekend, and it turns out everyone had the same idea. The parking areas were very crowded and we ended up in some traffic and had to park further and run to not miss the sunset, but the view was well worth it! Definitely bringing blankets and breakfast next time! I suggest going on a less popular day to avoid the crowds.
What I thought was EVEN BETTER than watching the sunrise, was coming back here to stargaze at night. Bring tons of blankets. There are barely any clouds and on a clear night you can see the milky way! Also, once your eyes adjust, you start seeing shooting stars all the time. I DEFINITELY recommend this!

Every time we told friends we were going to visit Acadia the resounding message we got was that we had to visit Cadillac Mountain. Originally we thought that it was all hype, but when we arrived and saw the views, we were speechless.
Cadillac Mountain has an incredible view of the surrounding area and the view of the ocean is incredible. We ended up sitting here for over an hour in silence just enjoying the beauty.
The only minor complaints we had were that parking was a bit tough but perseverance is everything, and the fact that other visitors constantly walked in restricted areas.
That being said, we didn’t let it impact our time to meditate and when we were ready to go we spent an additional ten minutes in the parking lot on our phones because it was the only place we had service in the area.

Ohhhh WOW! Words can’t express the beauty of this park! Well kept, breathtaking views, with an escarpment of granite that border dense treelines peppered with wildflowers adding pops of color.
The air is crisp, the ambience is peaceful and the views are masterfully created. What an amazing way to spend a Wednesday afternoon.

Cadillac Mountain is a must drive if you are in the area. There are wonderful views to be had all the way to the top. It is a little scary to look over the edge of the cliffs as you are driving (and people are going over the lines at times!), but it was a great experience.

The first daily and most beautiful sunrise in the United States!
Known for sharing its natural beauty for having the first sunrise in the east coast of United States, it is no surprise that many locals and visitors will gather here to watch that moment. Arriving just an hour before sunrise, there is a dark blue color across the skies where the stars are still twinkling. Far East side, there are glimpses of orange and pink lights slowly taking over the skies. The strong orange and red colors will conquer the skies almost immediately as the sun is peeking and making its way up the sky for a sunrise. For great photos to capture the moments, make your way to the summit and the most East side to capture it (the side where it is brightest).
In preparation for the sunrise, one may have to sacrifice sleep the night before to ensure that one stays awake. Dress warmly like a heavy hoodie or jacket, it gets very cold even on a summer night. The mountains are barely lite up, drive with caution. Phone services may not work so well, so have a back up map. Bring some snacks and some drinks. Sit back and relax. It may sound a little tedious but it is totally worth it!

Stunning views with different trail options for any level. My 2 ½ yr old had a blast climbing the rocks and so did we.

Spectacular views abound from the peak of Cadillac. You can see Bar Harbor nestled against the coast, the islands dotting the bay or (if you come early) the first light to reach the U.S. Panoramic views of Acadia National Park make this a must visit, and access is easy with a road built all the way to the summit. Limited hiking and lots of people made me want to keep moving on to other parts of the park. Still, a visit to Acadia without stopping here isn’t complete.

The best part about this mountain is that if you’re lazy, then you can drive up the thing! Cadillac Mountain is definitely one of the major highlights of Acadia. If you do Acadia the way they tell you to do it in the tourist center, they’ll have you drive around the island during the day and then you’ll end up at Cadillac last, right in time for sunset. It offers super gorgeous stunning views of everywhere in and around the part, and it’s just an awesome place. There are some great photo opportunities, a small, short trail you can take a walk around. Bf and I came early May and I was actually pretty surprised at how cool it was, but not cold during that time. You’d think that the wind would be pretty strong all the way up on top of a mountain, but it wasn’t bad at all.
tldr; awesome highlight of Acadia that shouldn’t be missed!

Surprisingly, Cadillac Mountain in the beautiful state of Maine is called a mountain.
It is 1532 feet above Mount Desert Island. It is not only the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park, but it is also the highest point along North America’s eastern seaboard. From October to March, it is the first spot in the United States to see the sun rise.
Have to admit that the views from the summit are gorgeous. Pictures do not do it justice. Come here and see for yourself.

A must see if you visit Bar Harbor. Seriously, if you can only do one thing, drive to the top for the sunrise. Make sure you bring legit winter clothes if your visiting in fall or early spring.

GO. GO. GO. You cannot miss this opportunity. Cadillac Mountain is the highest peak on the Atlantic coast (for the US at least) and it’s also the first major sunrise that touches the continental US. We woke up at 4am to attend a 4:53 AM sunrise and it was absolute perfection. You also have a 360 view of the rest of Acadia National Park.

Der Cadillac Mountain ist der höchste Berg im Arcadia National Park auf Mount Desert Island in Maine und hat eine Höhe von 470 m. Er sollte bei einem Besuch auf der Insel ganz oben auf der Liste stehen.
Die Fahrt hinauf ist atemberaubend und mehrere Parkplätze ermöglichen wunderbare Ausblicke auf die herrliche Landschaft. Natürlich kann der Gipfel auch vom Tal aus auf gut gekennzeichneten Wegen erwandert werden.
Auf dem Gipfel des Cadillac Mountain soll man in den USA die Sonne als erstes morgens erblicken. Hierzu tummeln sich morgens hunderte Schaulustige, die das Spektakel erleben möchten.
Der Name stammt übrigens vom Franzosen Sieur Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. Ganz früher fuhr auch mal für kurze Zeit eine Zahnradbahn zum Gipfel. Auch ein Hotel gab es zu dieser Zeit, das allerdings nach kurzer Zeit geschlossen wurde und danach in Flammen aufging.
Spektakulär ist dort auch der Indian Summer, wobei ich die Rast und Aussicht bei 30° Grad warmen Wind vorziehen würde.
