Real Good Fish

Just had my first share and it was great! The shrimp were so fresh they were still alive and so tasty! Can’t wait for next weeks catch!

I haven’t used their service and never will. I make pottery and these guys were next to me at a sustainable living show. They said they knew what they were doing. Everyone offered to help and even to move down to give them more room. They said nope, we’re ok. But, they weren’t. Their canopy dropped onto my pottery display and broke one of my most valuable pieces. And to make it worse they didn’t take responsibility. I gave them the piece with the understanding they would pay for it. They didn’t pay and they returned the piece to me after I asked, but in 100 pieces… Thanks RGF

This is such an amazing way to get fish. You know it’s sustainable, caught locally, and fresh. Everything I’ve gotten from here has been amazing, and what really makes it incredible are the things that you can’t really find in grocery stores, like ridgeback shrimp. If you want fish in your diet, there’s no better way to get it.

Great service for seafood lovers delivered fresh to your neighborhood without driving over to the ocean. The quality and freshness makes a difference in taste. The recipes provided have worked out great for us. We got the whole fish option which works out for us since we like the head and all. The price is very reasonable for the freshness, service, and quantity.

We love getting our biweekly share. The freshest of fish. Sometimes sea creatures we wouldn’t think to look for at a market but RGF gives you recipes that always make for a restaurant quality meal at home. Plus we love learning about what’s in season and who caught our fish!

I’ve been a member for several years of the very best Tuesday night dinners on the planet. RGF brings the freshest, wildest, most sustainable seafood to my neighborhood every week. Recipes challenge me to grill, poach, bake and sauté some new and different way every week too. Bonus that my neighborhood farmers market is the same night in Monterey! Thanks for keeping us and our ocean healthy!

Words cannot describe how happy I am to find Real Good Fish. Seafood has always been my favorite protein choice but getting fresh seafood has always been a struggle. Between Whole Foods and Ranch 99, the selection is slim and not always the best quality. Then entered Real Good Fish. I was hesitant at first because I’m not sure about the selection they offer and and quality. After using them for about 6 month now, I cannot imagine living without them now!
First the quality and cost is as good as you get! The fish is always fresh and in large portion where I can have a few meals out of each serving (by myself). And I have not yet had a repeat in the seafood selection so you will not get tired of the same fish over and over again. I have even tried a few fishes I have never seen available outside a restaurant before!
I think the most important part of Real Good Fish’s service is the recipe that gets send along with your notice! I know there’s several choices for you to get fresh fish, but what is the point if you have no idea how to prepare it. Real Good Fish has a good selection of recipes for the different species that they send out the day before your fish delivery so you can menu prep accordingly. Most days I check my email obsessively until I get that email so I can start dreaming of my next delicious seafood meal.

This is a great source for high-​quality, local, and responsibly harvested seafood. If you like fish, it’s worth it.

This has probably been the best decision I have made this year — to become a member! I usually buy my fish from Whole Foods, but Real Good Fish has been eye opening for me in terms of just how fresh and delicious fish can be! I love the system they have set up, the pick-​ups are so easy and seamless, and the recipes they send every time there is a pick up are divine! My family loves every single recipe I’ve done so far, and I can’t wait to see what else is coming in the weeks forward. Also, I like the ability to ‘opt’out’ of shellfish /​abalone if you have allergies. The flexibility is amazing and perfectly suited for a family like ours. Thank you RGF! :)

We’ve belonged to Real Good Fish for awhile now and recommend it to all of our friends and family. I’m a lifelong vegetarian turned pescatarian, but I’m very, very particular with the fish I eat. I never liked salmon before trying the salmon from Real Good Fish. I was shocked at the difference between RGF salmon and store-​bought. Night and DAY. Every order has been amazingly fresh and super tasty. There hasn’t been a single order that I haven’t completely enjoyed. And I love their philosophy on high quality and sustainable fish. Once you go Real Good… you’ll never go back ;)

Other countries have a culture of fish markets. It’s where you go to get fresh fish caught within the last couple days. This, alas, doesn’t exist in the United States. Fish is caught, industrially, frozen, and sent to your supermarket where you buy it and you have no idea where it came from, when it was caught, and how they caught it.
Real Good Fish is your only way to get this here in the United States. I could describe the business it to you, but it looks like a lot of of reviewers are doing that (or check their website). Suffice to say, it’s a wonderful service, and once you TASTE fish that was freshly caught, you realize what fish should taste like and realize that we have been eating this substandard substitute that you get at the supermarket. You’ll never go back.

Last week was my first week of this awesome CSF. Had people over and everyone had rave reviews for this fresh, sustainable, and local catch. I love that I can have a recurring subscription with a company that I know is making responsible decisions. Thank you Real good Fish!

Great company and business model. The quality of the seafood is top notch. You can really taste the freshness of the product and take comfort in knowing that it was caught locally and is sustainable. Additionally I really like that they offer a recipe or two with each order, providing inspiration for your fresh catch (although just about any of the items they offer goes just as well fried in butter!). You have the option to get whole fish or filets, but personally I go with the whole fish! They do clean them for you, which is great!
Beyond just your weekly or bi-​weekly shipment, you can also order additional items from their store, such as uni or smoked fish. I have used this service to pick up locally farmed abalone, which for me is great since I know where it comes from and was not illegally procured or sold.

My wife and I live in the East Bay and have been members of Real Good Fish for about 3 months. We have been blown away by the selection and quality of the seafood. Each weeks delivery is accompanied by a description of the fishery and easy to follow recipes. Last week we got tenderized abalone and this week sushi grade king salmon. We are stoked on RGF and will continue to be members for a long time.

We’ve been a member of this great fish CSA for a number of years. Years of good, fresh fish. Every week I wait for Monday to come to read the email of what we will be getting the next day, Tuesday.
Sometimes we use their recipes, sometimes we do our own. Either way it is good and healthy.

I am positively in love with Real Good Fish!
They are consistently providing amazing, sensibly sourced fish and seafood that is the freshest I’ve ever had. I was lucky enough to get oysters one time, and greedy enough to not share. I also got black cod (sablefish), which is now my absolute favorite fish.
I love the recipes they provide, which is great in a pinch when life is too hectic to get crazy creative.
Real Good Fish provides this area with fish that is of exceptional quality and responsibly sourced. I am proud of their mission and to be a member.

Ok, I reviewed Real Good Fish about a month into my subscription, and gave them 5 stars. It’s been a little over a year now, and I’m still impressed! Just this week, we got farm raised abalone from out by Pacifica, and they were fantastic. A couple weeks ago, we got fresh uni (sea urchin) which were at least as good as, possibly better than I’ve ever gotten at a good sushi place. We’ve had oysters from Tomales Bay, salmon, sand dabs, rock cod, black cod, petrale sole, just a great variety of fresh (like caught a day ago fresh) and flavorsome seafood. This is both easier and more fun than hoping whole foods has something good this week. Cheaper too, I bet! Every week, recipes are provided, usually 2 or 3, just in case you don’t know what to do with your fish. I’ve been frustrated for years living in San Jose with being soooo close, but sooooooooooooo far away from fresh caught local seafood, Real Good Fish is my answer. Need to know who caught it, how it was caught, where it was caught, or where it rates on the sustainable scale… That’s all in an email the day before you receive your fish. .any better service and they’d be in your kitchen washing dishes… nuff said.

I’ve been a member of the Real Good Fish (previously Local Catch Monterey Bay) CSF for 3+ years now. It has turned Tuesdays (and generally Wednesdays) into fish nights for me.
Each week they deliver a different variety of fish (generally, although occasionally it is other seafood). While the quantity of the fish can vary (depending on the market price of the item), the vast majority of the deliveries provide sufficient fish for two dinners for two people (so 4 meals total). I choose to have fillets delivered, but they also offer the option to get whole-​fish delivered (when possible).
I am a big fan of the variety of seafood that this CSF allows me to try, as I have had — and enjoyed — many varieties of fish that I otherwise never would have thought to buy. Salmon, halibut, sole, crab, oysters, abalone, black cod (sablefish, yum!), rockfish, calamari, sand dabs, grenadier, ridgeback shrimp, tuna, herring, and many more!
They always provide a recipe or two to help people with ideas on how to serve the fish, but I do wish they had a larger recipe selection on their website (as Local Catch they previously had more recipes available on their website… but most of them did not seem to make the transition).
You may occasionally get a fish delivery that you’re not a big fan of, but I have found that this is more than offset by experiencing so many types of fish that I otherwise never would have thought to try. So if you’re a picky eater, a CSF might not be the best idea, but if you’re willing to take a chance or two, Real Good Fish will delivery extremely fresh, extremely local, extremely tasty fish to you (at many pickup locations) every week.
