Great manners being at home, let us help you. In as little as one appointment we can help you eliminate your dog’s unwanted behaviors once and for all. YES we can teach an old dog new tricks as well as put an incredible foundation on your new puppy. We work with you and your dog in your home, on your schedule, and we address your dogs specific and unique training and/​or behavior issues. We have over 36 years of hands on training.

We also offer Doggie Boot Camp (board and train) in our home, never in a kennel. You dog will live with a trainer and their family while learning all of the manners needed to be a great family member.

We serve all of NJ, NYC, Eastern PA, and SE New York State

Owner Jean has neen in the business of training dogs for over 35 years! The company Fix My Dog was established in 2007 as an in-​home only dog training company. Prior to that she owned a very large training facility in Morris Co but found many clients wanted her to see their dogs BAD behaviors at home, so in 2007 she sold that company to be able to spend more time where she was needed, IN the owners home!

Jean Owen has been training dogs professionally for 35 years. She is known for her sense of humor, love for dogs, her honest approach to dog training, and her ability to attain the results her cleints are looking for. Jean has been seen on such television shows such as David Letterman, Animal Planet, Good Day America, Conan Obrien, Comedy Central, The Incredible Dog Challenge, and the TODAY show.

While living in lower Manhattan, she held the demanding position of being president and integration manager of a 400 member only off-​leash dog park. Jean and her husband moved out of Lower NYC early 2002 but before they moved Jean and her two therapy dogs, Piper and Girlie, worked daily at the 9⁄11 Family Crisis Center from October 2001 to January 2002.

Jean has achieved multiple championship titles on various breeds and mixed breeds in Agility, Obedience, Field, Dock Diving, and Confirmation.

Jean was very very very helpful in getting our 3.5 year old dog to behave — he wouldn’t allow people into our home, he barked and lunged at repair men and workmen in our yard, and he’d lunge and pull me on our long walks. We had three lessons with Jean and she showed us how to get Moki to behave. She had numerous «tricks» to use including a special collar and sprays if the collar correction didn’t work. She also suggested several CDs to acclimate him to various loud sounds. Moki is a very low key, calm dog and Jean had numerous suggestions to engage him in more active, interactive play, I’ve worked with 3 other trainers and a behavior veterinarian with poor results. Jean was terrific and I’m thrilled that I found her through an on line article about her agility work. Thank you, Jean!

It was clear from the one simple telephone call with Jean that she is the dog angel/​pet owner savior we needed. It was a blessing and pure pleasure inviting Jean into our home and training us and Vinnie our new 8 week old American Brittany how to properly behave in a family.

I have 2 Rottweiler puppies who are almost 2. When we contacted Jean we needed immediate help, not that my babies were violent or vicious in any way, we just had some obedient problems that needed to be addressed immediately as they were getting worse with time. My female was jumping up on me, along with everyone else who would walk through the door. It was to the point where I had significant bruises along my entire back and legs only because of the 100lb+ hit I’d take every time she would jump up on me. My husband told me it’s about time we get Jean to come to the house and train the dogs. Jean came for a 2 hour session, and to say the least within a half hour Bonnie, my female, was a changed dog. Clyde my male never had issues, he just followed her lead. Jean taught the dogs, as long as my family a few tactics to stop the behaviors we needed to fix. Ever since the first half hour with Jean Bonnie has not jumped since. They stopped every behavior we went over with Jean, and to say the least Jean was like a god sent. We have 2 totally different dogs… After Jean came it was like a miracle. The dogs have never gone back to their bad behaviors and we only have Jean to thank for that. She was worth every penny, and we believe every dog owner trying to fix any problem with their pet should instill all trust and faith In Jean, and the fix my dog theory. We had pre-​adopted a shelter dog who bit a visitor to our home a week later. I frantically looked on Unilocal to find dog trainers in order to get guidance on what to do in this situation. Jean (1) responded to my email almost immediately, (2) correctly guessed from which shelter we had gotten the dog, and (3) firmly advised us that a biting incident a week after we had brought the dog home was a sign of a very serious problem, and that the most humane option would be for us to return her to the (no-​kill) shelter immediately, before we became any more attached to her. She said, «I could take your money and then tell you that this dog is now trained, but I’d be lying. After an incident like this, you would never be able to trust her.» My husband and I followed this wise advice, but Jean didn’t stop there. She asked me to email her about any other dogs we were considering so that she could review the ads for coded warning signs. When I did so, she responded immediately. She even did a little bit of looking for us herself, although we never paid her a cent. I’m happy to say that we’ve now found the right shelter dog for us, and although I’ve never met Jean, she served as a knowledgeable friend to us throughout the process, just out of simple kindness. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Jean was a God send. We had just brought our daughter home from the hospital and we were concerned about how our puppy was behaving. Sunny, our 5 month old Golden Doodle, had already been to 5 weeks of intensive dog training and was unmanageable. Sunny did not respond to commands and demonstrated serious aggressive guarding behavior.
My Mother found Jean through a search for local dog trainers and Jean came highly recommended. Jean responded to our inquiry within hours and came to our rescue the following day. At first, my Mom was taken back by the fee Jean charged. However, Jean reassured us that it would be highly unlikely that she would have to make more than one visit. Jean spent 2 hours working with Sunny and us to correct her behavior. At the time of Jeans visit we were unable to replicate Sunny’s aggressive behavior. Jean instructed us on what to do to initiate and correct her behavior. We bated Sunny, but her behavior was so extreme that we called in the professional and Jean returned within the hour. She worked with Sunny for the next hour and the behavior was eliminated.
Jean instructed my husband and I on how to work with her for the next few days to reinforce the behavior modification tools she had put in place. Jean did not charge us for the second visit. Since her visit we have not seen aggressive behavior from Sunny. In fact, Sunny and our daughter are best buds and unfortunately share chew toys — yuck! We highly recommend Jean and sing her praises.

I was beyond skeptical when Jean told me she could have my reactive 2 year old bulldog fixed after 1 session. It takes a lot to impress me. I’m still in shock. I’ve never seen or heard of anything like this. I originally got my bulldog with intent to make him a therapy dog. I went through a series of life threatening surgeries and wanted to give back. I shared my goals with Jean. She encouraged me and gave me all of the tools and techniques to achieve my goal. Jean made such a difficult task look easy. It helps that she will keep you laughing the whole time. After 3 other trainers she did in one session what no one else could in months of work. Don’t waste your time or money on other trainers. Thank you again Jean from myself, Bosco and the people in the neighborhood! :)

Yes, I really mean this trainer is as good as a trainer can get. No two dogs are alike any more than two people are alike. Jean can read you and your dog and perceive what approach is most likely to yield the best results. Trust me, every hiss and grab at the collar is not necessarily going to get a great response — I’ve witnessed this first hand. On the other hand, maybe a serious «Not yours» or «Leave it» from a true, thinking alpha will hit home. Not all problems respond to an excess of testosterone, and sometimes we’re too soft with our so-​called «little» dogs with huge attitudes. Just watch Jean or her trainers work with you and your dog; pay attention to what she is telling YOU, because as I learned with my first terrier, I needed training even more than she did. You will be delighted with the results, your dog will still love you (and Jean) and life will go on much more happily than before. Especially, watch how much your dog respects Jean and her commands and wants to please her. Don’t you want that for you?

Love, Love, LOVE fix my dog! I had one session with Jean and it was like magic. We have a maltese puppy and she was able to help us with his nipping and biting within minutes of our first visit. We also sent our pup to puppy bootcamp with Barbara for 10 days and it was amazing. Firstly, he was loved and well taken care of which was my biggest priority… but he also came home able to sit, lay down, run to his room on command, and roll over! There are too many things to list of what he learned but let’s just say he went away with a touch of annoying puppy behavior and came home a sweet puppy everyone wanted to have around! AND… if that isn’t enough… to top of the hands on training both Jean and Barbara did I always know I can send a quick note for help with ongoing maintenance and training. Fix My Dog was the best thing I did for my pup and our family to ensure a long and happy life together! I would highly recommend Jean and her team!

Four years ago we adopted a red boned coonhound. The one thing we were worried about was her running out of the house onto the main street that we live on. Jean Owen said she would fix our dog’s behavior and in less than one hour, shazzam.
It’s been four years and our dog will still not run out of the side gate, the front door, the back door, and will not cross any outside door threshold without our okay.
In my book, Jean saved our dog’s life and us a lot of money and tears.

To give you all some background information, my boyfriend and I adopted a 5 month old miniature dachshund/​chihuahua mix. While she was not a puppy nightmare we were looking for a good housebreaking and general training regimen. I called Fix My Dog because they had great reviews. In summary, the trainer is good and has valuable advice, but looking back at the experience a couple months later I wish I would have invested in a basic puppy group training program instead of doing a single session with fix my dog. I feel the weekly group training is good for puppy socialization, it allows you time to think of questions you have in between weeks, it addresses all your basic training needs, and it will cost much less. The single session with fix my dog (which i think can be anywhere from 1 to 2 hours) including the travel fee for her to come to my house (17 miles away) was about double what I am paying for a 8 week course (1 hour sessions) at a training facility by my house. I can’t speak for the owners who have serious problems, based on what I read they are truly getting value from the services they receive and the money they pay. For those that need basic training, if you can afford it, shes a good trainer. However, any general training session should do the trick for less money.
