Customer service really went down the drain. They used to be decent but employees are rude and lazy. You suck Big 5!!!

The person who helped me was very sweet. He gave me the wrong gas for our stove and the wrong flashlight. The other guy on the floor(also very friendly) gave my BF the wrong sleeping bag(our bags were supposed to zip together.) We now have four items to return. I highly suggest better training of personel when it comes to standard camping items.

I frequent this Big 5 on a weekly basis. I typically go in on the day they receive their order. When I go to Big 5 it’s to either pick up a new knife, handle a few firearms, purchase some ammo and shooting equipment, purchase a new hunting or fishing license and let my daughter look at the fishing equipment(she wants to be a fisherman like her daddy). The staff has always been super friendly and helpful. I am a member of their e-team and once I get a coupon for ammo I’m usually in there the next day. The only reason that I didn’t give them all five stars is the wait you encounter sometimes. When it’s busy or someone is off the floor you may find yourself waiting a few minutes, but I’m a patient person and am pretty understanding more than most people so it doesn’t bug me too much.

I don’t shop there a lot because we live closer to another sporting goods store. After our interactions with a staff member named Jason, I will never return. Jason asked my son if he was a good ball player. My son answered yes. Jason then responds, «Did you make all-stars?» My son replied, «No». Jason then says, «well then you’re not a good player». Why does this guy feel like he needs to be a dream killer to a kid that has been working his butt off with extra lessons and practice all summer? Never in my life have I ever experienced a full grown adult behaving this way to a kid… totally unprovoked. Jason is the one that initiated the conversation. Some people should just never open their mouth again. No other staff member ever greeted us or acknowledged our presence until we were at the cashier. It will be a cold day in hell when I spend my money there! I can see why they don’t do much business.

Wow! I didn’t know that I had given it 2 stars before. I need to update this to 1 star after today’s experience. I went in to look at some bikes. They had 4 bikes. One looked good from it’s very high perch. It took a while to track down an employee to get it down. Well, that was also pointless. He said that he won’t take the bike down unless I’m buying it. Umm, Can you get it down so I can ride it? no? Can I see if its the right size for me? no. Can I … no. So I have t o commit to buying it before you’ll consider getting it down? Yes. I’m going to take my business elsewhere.

As a former employee of this specific location I do have some insight into the inner workings as well as any changes that have occurred over the past several years. I will have to say that in the several years it’s been since I worked at the store not much has changed. One of the biggest if not of the only noticeable changes is the fact that they had the floors redone. Actually what I should say is that they FINALLY had the floors redone. Prior to this you would’ve wanted to throw your shoes away after walking through the place. The store is generally as it was when I worked there completely overflowing with product such that it is actually difficult to walk through parts of it. The shoe section looks almost identical as it did when I worked there. Mind you SEVERAL years ago. I would have to say that if you’re in the market for some piece of sporting equipment you would likely be better off going to Sports Authority or Dick’s Sporting Goods or literally just about any other store that sells sporting goods. I have found that the prices are not very good, the selection is not very good, and I cannot recall the last time I received decent customer service in the store.

SHAME on MEE! I went to Big 5 and had the nerve to interrupt a couple of employees idle chit chat with a question. They made me feel real small. Dident realize they get there checks from Big 5 corp. and not from Customers like me. Cashier gave me a filthy look Milpitas store is just as bad.

The staff was helpful and friendly. I’ve been here a few times, and they always offer help. The store is always straightened and organized.

I got my roller derby gear here at a cheaper price than Sports Authority. The store is always organized(although it’s a little small) the staff are nice and friendly, and actually have some knowledge about sports. The only complaint I have is that they didn’t have any women’s roller skates and they crammed everything into the store because it’s so small, but it’s a pretty cool sports store.

Over priced for their sports equipment, management has no idea how to handle a customer service complaint. They sell you returned sports equipment and other related items, those should be returned to the manufacturer.

OK they had what I wanted and the price was good. The checkout guy was a real pain — both to me and the two people ahead of me in line. He charged me 2x the price and was a jerk about it. There was no apology. He called everybody by cutesy names. He was also slow and there were no other checkers. I’ll shop elsewhere.

I had a great moment with the Monday night crew. They were really approachable and when I asked if I could get a better size on a pair of cleats they had no problem doing it and they were about to close. So nice. They looked so tired so I really appreciated it

Bleh. Here’s why. I’m in line waiting to purchase something. There’s five people ahead of me. One person is ringing the purchases while three other employees are behind to counter doing whatever it was they were doing(trying to casually look busy but kind of clowning around — no, they weren’t very good at looking busy). What they weren’t doing is expediting anyone’s experience in the store. Maybe only one person out of the four chuckleheads was authorized to ring on the register. I don’t know. What I do know is it doesn’t look so good to the customers. We’re not too keen about standing in line while several employees are behind the counter working on their slapstick routine, regardless of the reason. If you’ve been turned down for retail positions at Macy’s, Target, Ross, um… Goodwill, hey, don’t fret. You can be management material at the MH Big 5.

I recently stopped in here because my daughter was going to be with the Dentist next door for a cleaning. I was curious about their firearms, primarily air rifles. What a great experience! A gentleman whose name I wish I remembered couldn’t have been more helpful. From steering me to a rifle that was not displayed but was on sale for ½ the price of the other rifles AND he was honest enough to point out it had virtually identical functionality. When I asked about getting a hunting license for wild turkey he was extremely helpful & knowledgable. I’ll be back.
