Specialties
Thousands of students come to Lafayette Academy each year, and almost everyone comes often. We have MANY families who have sent all of their children to us for up to 10 years (that’s not an exaggeration).
We offer a variety of tutoring services for K-12 students but mostly those in middle school and high school. Our programs include Shadow Classes for local public high schools including Acalanes, Campolindo, Las Lomas, and Miramonte. We «shadow» most math and science classes at these schools, some foreign languages (particularly Spanish), and some history classes. We also shadow most AP courses. We offer private tutoring for every subject including math, science, Spanish, English, history, essay writing, ACT Prep, and SAT Prep. Our Final Exam Cram program is prepares students for final exams in the winter and spring.
We also have fantastic programs for ACT and SAT Prep with differentiated instruction, small classes organized by ability level, private tutoring, up to four practice tests with detailed analysis, and numerous other unique features.
Our College Admissions Counseling program is so popular that it is always «sold out» for juniors and seniors. We have three locations in Danville, Moraga, and (you guessed it) Lafayette.
We have been owned by local parents since 1991. In fact, my children graduated from Campolindo and attended Lafayette Academy. It’s easy for companies to talk about how much they care about their students — we show it day in and day out.
History
Established in 1991.
Lafayette Academy was founded in 1991 by two local moms who wanted to start a summer enrichment program. We have blossomed into a whopping 3 location «chain» of learning centers in Contra Costa County. Mark and Kathy Bressler bought the original Lafayette Academy in late 2003 and subsequently added locations in Danville and Moraga. We have been actively involved in our community since we moved here in 1986 and believed that Lafayette Academy would be a fantastic way for us to give back to the community that we genuinely love. All four of our daughters were helped by The Academy and it helped us put them through college! Thanks for paying attention!

Business Owner
I’m the guy who co-owns the place (with my wife Kathy). We want The Academy to be fun but we are very serious about our role in the community.
Kathy is a UCLA grad, and she later earned her college counseling certificate at Cal. She is our college admissions counselor, and she’s helped a lot of students discover and get into great colleges.
I’m a Cal grad from the «House» era (Animal and Brick), and I later received (not sure about earned) an MBA at Harvard.
We have four daughters, all of whom graduated from Campolindo. My oldest daughter Mallory graduated from the University of Michigan in 2007. She works for Global Student Embassy here in Northern CA (yeah). Daughter #2 Dana (chronologically, of course) graduated from U.C. Santa Barbara in 2010 and works for a start-up here in Northern CA (yeah again). Our twins, Hillary (U.C. Davis) and Becca (Cal) just graduated and are back home (yeah yeah again and again). Are you sensing a pattern?
Thanks for paying attention.
