Jimmy is always honest and super fast. I took my wife’s car in a few weeks back (not the first time). He told me it would be ready in 30 minutes. I get back in 20 and the car is done and ready to go. Always a pleasure! Highly recommended.

Fast, friendly service, decently priced — I’ve been smogging our various cars for many years now, and this was the best experience I’ve had so far. Service was super fast — from the time I drove my car into the bay to the time I pulled out couldn’t have been more than 10 minutes. The price was decent, not the most expensive, and not quite the cheapest, but I didn’t have to deal with all the hassles that some places give you when you use coupons. Will definitely be back for all future smog checks.

Had Smog check here on my vehicle recently and had a great experience. There was no waiting and smog test took only 10 — 15 minutes. The guy there was helpful and very friendly. The service was great and quick.

Quick and easy, though there might be a line when you get there. He often does a typical car in 15 minutes or less. If you have to wait, there are restaurants across the street, or he has a table and chairs and newspapers for you to sit and read. Enter through the driveway/​parking lot behind New Moon restaurant, or if you come north on Verdugo, hang a right around the corner and into the driveway.

Jimmy knows his stuff. He is the real deal and that is why I have been coming to CSC every year my car’s smog check has been required. No hassle, quick service and any questions you have will be answered. The Center is conveniently located and easy to find. I refer everyone here.

Based on a coupon I received in the local mailer, I decided to try Community Smog Center. While I have a pickup truck (which should have been a more expensive smog check), the Owner honored the coupon price. His service was so fast (compared to the 4 hours I had to wait a couple of years ago at another local mechanic). I went for a coffee and a stroll and he was done in a flash. He recommended I go to AAA office up the street which I did, and now I am ready to go again for another two years. The owner was cordial, good natured, and very helpful. I did not find him to be rude in any way. I would definitely recommend Community Smog Center.

Incompetence redefined plain and simple. «Visual Fails» appear to be Jimmy’s «modus operandi» when in doubt fail it and charge a re-​test fee. Don’t bother with this place take your chances somehere else. This is a «Star» Facility? What cereal box did you get that certification from?

As a repeat customer I had confidence in Jimmy. I took my car there and he failed it on a «visual» saying EGR valve would not open. Everything else passed. Took it to my mechanic and he said you don’t check the EGR valve, you just check that it’s there. $ 75 later I’m taking the car back to Jimmy for the $ 15 retest. His shop is now closed for 2 days. I took the car to another shop in West LA and told them about the issue they called to verify and said non applicable on EGR nothing illegal as these shops are heavily regulated and don’t need to risk losing their license. Surprise, my car passed. I called Jimmy and told him I wanted my money back. He was not about to do that he proceeded to argue with me and would not accept the fact he made a mistake. He tried to justify what he did and called the State Smog hotline I waited for 25 minutes so they could answer his call and the call finally ended when the State said it was 5pm and it was time to go. Question still not answered for him and money still not returned to me. Then he said he didn’t put my car on the dyno because it could have ruined the trans and he didn’t want to take that chance and the other shop took a «big chance». Then he wanted to show me how he was going to test the EGR valve. No thanks– I just want my money back– you made me spend money with the mechanic for no reason other than your mistake. Bottom line; come here and take your chances depending on what car you have. To Jimmy: learn your craft, when you don’t know something make a call and ask don’t just fail a visual so you can charge $ 15 for a re-​test. I guess you really need the $ 45 Jimmy instead of being a fair business owner and returning the money you didn’t earn! I won’t go back to this place ever and will tell everyone I know you’re shady!

I will never take my vehicle here again. I feel that I’ve been scammed out of $ 50 and now have a marked vehicle that will make passing smog more difficult in the future. I should have walked away the first minute when the mechanic said «your vehicle sounds bad… does it always sound like this.» In fact, the vehicle has never run better. When the mechanic did a visual inspection, he found a loose vacuum hose that would lead to a failed test. Instead of letting me know, he spent another hour testing the vehicle, and kept saying «we’ll see if it passes.» To throw salt on the wound, he wrote in the report that the vacuum hoses had been tampered with so that California has a record of the vacuum hoses. These hoses were quite easily fixed. The mechanic was rude, did not know what he was talking about when he consistently referred to «hydrocarbons,» and was very defensive about how he «was only trying to make a living.» I am disgusted by my treatment at Community Smog and do not recommend this place to anyone. I honestly feel that the mechanic would have failed this vehicle no matter what. I would have appreciated honesty and respect.

I’ve used Community for my last half dozen checks and have always been on my way in 15 minutes or so.

I just had my smog test on my 10 year old vehicle on Saturday and was so impressed with the service I received. They took my car right away. This was my first time coming here and I too used a coupon ($ 15 off). I had previously used another smog test center in Tujunga but decided to give this place a try since I had a coupon. The owner was so nice and professional and the service was great so I felt it my duty to provide a review. I can’t believe the bad reviews that are listed here. I’m wondering if they got the wrong shop? For the record this place is across from El Charo Mexican restaurant. It’s in the same building as Casa de Auto in Montrose.
I was so impressed with the service I received I told two of my neighbors about it the next day and they said, «yeah, that guy is great. We take all of our cars there too!»

I’ve come here for years and Jimmy’s always been smiling, courteous, and fast. Jimmy even donated smog checks to my kids’ school fund raiser! (And for you conspiracy theorists out there, Jimmy doesn’t know I’m writing this. Hell, I doubt anyone there uses Unilocal.I’m getting one of my cars tested now and couldn’t believe the reviews here.)
I love that they’re right next to the shops and coffee houses in Montrose. With the coupon from the local paper, these guys can’t be beat, especially if you come in the morning. I rarely have to wait and often just drive right into the test bay. Highly recommended.

Very quick and efficient. Friendly and informative. Only down side is there is not waiting room. Good thing there are great restaurants and shopping within 100 yards.
