Myrick Photographic has been serving artists, professional photographers and photo enthusiasts since 1979. Located in Monterey, California, Myrick Photographic has had the privilege of serving some of America’s most noted photographers in an area rich in photographic tradition.

We are a «real» camera store and proudly represent many of the photographic manufacturers including Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Fuji, Promaster, Tamron, Manfrotto, Lowepro, Tenba, Hoodman, Superior Seamless, Heliopan, Cokin, Ilford, Lauder, Epson, Moab and more.

In addition Myrick Photographic has a superb photo processing facility operating an Agfa DLab2 allowing us to make color prints on Fuji Crystal Archive paper up to 12“x18″. We also operate a wide format inkjet printer allowing us to create images up to 24“x36″. We operate 3 Lucidiom workstations and have online print ordering capability.

Myrick Photographic is a family camera store operated by Stephen Myrick since 1979. We operate our store with a passion for sharing the wonder of photography with everyone.

Myrick Photographic has been serving photo enthusiasts since 1979 and I have been honored to be a part of this vibrant photography community since I was attending Monterey High School in the late 60’s. While I was a middle school student I began assisting a wedding photographer, began to work in the darkroom in high school and was a sports photographer for the Monterey Herald. Upon graduating I ran the darkroom for a local studio. After serving in the Army, I ran a technical photo lab for the Navy where I began processing my first digital images in the mid 70’s.

When I started Myrick Photographic my desire was to provide solutions for photographers imaging needs. I have had the opportunity to serve many of the great names in photography and have been blessed to enjoy their friendship. The many photos we have printed have become family treasures for many of our friends.

As Myrick Photographic downsizes our space we look forward to providing the same level of service to you!

Great service. I went because my flash unit suddenly died (I forgot and left the batteries inside). I went in sadly not wanting to replace it and hoping to somehow get it fix or figure out what was wrong with it. The guy used some thing to clean the metal part of the batter component and whola! It worked again!

These guys are fantastic. I purchased my latest body & lens with them. I always go in and ask questions and get great service. Sure, sometimes they are busy but they always have great advice. What’s even nicer about their service is that I hardly ever need to purchase anything yet they are completely happy to help out a fellow photographer. Two thumbs up!

Myrick Photo is closing and liquidating itself. It’s pretty apparent why. They have no clue on how to run a photo store. I was not greeted when I entered the door this morning. I saw a couple of people waiting for service. And one shop keeper was running around as if he were a headless chicken. The lquidation was limited to a couple of tables. Wow, great bargains! I bet most of their stock will just be liquidated on eBay. That’s when I’ll buy something. Otherwise, all I remember of Myrick were high prices, lukewarm service, and not that well organized. Sad though because I’d like to support the local shops, but when it’s run this badly, why continue to patronize?

I freaking love this place and the sweet guys that work here. I’ve been shopping here quite a bit lately. Their prices are even comparable to online retailers like B&H and Amazon, and I’d rather support the local guy. The clerks have made many great suggestions for me on lenses, and given advice on cleaning my DSLR. They have an awesome selection of inkjet papers and fine art papers that work well in my high end inkjet paper.

this place is great for film and digital photographers, beginners and long time professionals. I’m just starting out as a full time photographer and I just spent an hour w/Jim as he walked me through my new (to me) Nikon d300. I didn’t purchase it from them, but that didn’t matter. Jim, David and the others are as willing & helpful as they are knowledgeable.
I do spend time looking for equip and accessories on line, but more often than not decide to stick w/Myrick so that I know what’s actually going on. This is not a discount shop, but the added value of experience and not being over-sold make up for it.

I was visiting in Monterey, and walked into Myrick yesterday carrying a used Nikon I had shipped from eBay to my daughter who lives there. It wouldn’t even turn on. The gentleman at Myrick confirmed that the battery was dead, at which point I expected him to sell me a charger and let me take my chances. But he treated my problem as though it were his problem — he opened up a new battery to see whether the camera would respond, put in an SD card, walked through the settings («This is how I would set it up for a camera we sold here»), and took a variety of shots. Now we are 15 – 20 minutes into the interaction, with little evidence that there will be a purchase of any significance. I apologized for taking up so much time, and he responded that he «always learns something» and so doesn’t mind. He discovers that the auto-focus doesn’t work even though AF is selected on the lens, so after several experiments, he walks back through the menu and finds that AF had been disabled. Thanks to his patience, expertise and *investment* in his customers, I walked out with a perfectly functional used camera which, an hour earlier, had seemed like a lemon. That kind of turn-around doesn’t happen at BestBuy. The gentleman was a complete professional, not only in the sense that he treated customers as he would want to be treated, but also because he was genuinely interested in the technical problem and thus had «skin in the game.»
I wish I thought that my few purchases would help sustain such a valuable and endangered species… I will certainly find a reason to go back any time I am in town. Wonderful place and wonderful people.

I went here to get a kit to clean my sensor.
Upon my first few steps in the store I was quickly greeted by a very kind gentleman.
I asked if they had a kit to clean the sensor on my 30D. He quickly replied yes.
He also was quick to do a fast once over with a Super Giant Blower. Which was great!
I also needed a lens cap cover which was promptly retrieved for me.
The service I received here was beyond exceptional and super friendly. I would return here on a heartbeat.
I’m sure I paid a little more for a Super Giant Blower and lens cap but am happy to pay the difference and receive such great service.

I tend to buy my camera gear when I’m on vacation. That’s not to say that I buy cheap stuff. On the contrary, that’s usually when I can justify to myself forking over the dough.
So I was in Monterey and decided it was time for a tripod. Mr. Myrick himself was very helpful and helped me find the right one. When he heard I was just passing through, he recommended some nice spots to shoot from.
All and all, a great shopping experience.

Picked up my photographs which were done just beautifully. I was in and out in a flash. $ 10.00 got me three 8×10’s and one 4×7.

Got some important photos developed here; they also made CDs of the originals. They did a fine job, and the photos look great.
Haven’t tried them for equipment, so I can’t speak to that end of the experience.

These guys went above and beyond.
I went in for a wide angle lens. They knew about a large rebate that a previous camera store was unaware of on the same lens. As a result I saved big time. They also had a used macro lens on hand and I got that for a real steal. I wouldn’t have know is was used had they not told me. I picked up a few other nick knacks and got out for less than I had planned on playing for the wide angle lens. Granted their prices are on par with that of B&H photo.
I can’t see comparing them to Target or Best Buy as other reviewers have done. Simply put, you can’t buy this stuff from Best Buy or Target. You can’t even special order it. If you could, I wouldn’t have driven to Monterey to get the stuff. This is a camera specialty store with experienced sales staff. I love Best Buy but you won’t find this level of service there.

I love this place, and I hate this place.
I may have a different experience there because I am a woman. They do have that dirty old man kind of vibe sometimes, and maybe that is why I am treated well. I do agree with the prices though. I understand that as a smaller store, they can’t compete with Best Buy and Target, but as a smaller store, they should be able to offer discounts and deals; especially to locals or students.
I went here a lot as a photography student, and they always have everything I need in stock, and are willing to help me locate it in the store. They were also helpful in suggesting types of film for me to use on vacation for my 1953 Zeiss Ikon Ikonta B camera. Their film processing for 120 mm film is superb. I compared the same photo developed there compared to another place, and the colors were much more vibrant. It was also done quickly, too. 35 mm I would take somewhere else. They send it to another lab and takes forever. I would suggest Green’s Camera…

Your classic cocky pretentious camera geeks. I’m novice so I didn’t know the lingo and they didn’t want anything to do with me. I was looking to spend $ 1000 on new camera and he was NO help. It seemed like both guys behind the counter were too good to ask what I was looking for. Don’t waste your time. I will never step foot in that store again.

Although prices on photography equipment (mostly digital cameras) is more expensive here than at Best Buy, the service is exceptional and prices on accessories is average. Photo processing is available, as are camera repairs and photo restorations.
