History

Established in 1974.

Friar Tux Shop was founded in May of 1974 in Lakewood, California. In the beginning there was one energetic young man running the shop. From early on, however, there was plenty of family support: Mom provided the catchy name and Dad provided a vision. Brother joined in soon to help with the increase in business. The recipe was simple: stir in lots of selection and quality, then blend this with generous amounts of impeccable customer service and reasonable pricing. Friar Tux Shop was a success!

The dry cleaner lost my tux shirt hardware and I’m flying out the next morning. After getting the run around from several other shops (one wanted too much money, the next didn’t answer and the third didn’t use english. I called friar tux, got Katherine and explained my problem to get. To her, my problem was genuine. She talked to her manager and in 3 min, I was driving to Montclair. Very professional and I will be buying a tux after the holidays

If I could give this place less stars I would. First, off we had a great experiecne. Things quickly went south. It started with one of the groomsmen not getting fitted properly and the girl working did not want to fix it ans saw nothing wrong. We did not like how the manager Erica handled the situatuation. We decided to stay here as most of the groomsmen had already been finished. Plans changed so we had to cancel our order here. The groom called and cancelled and said everyone had been cancelled he spoke to Erica. He said the groomsmen would have to call and cancel, which they did. FOB cancelled but it had been 2 weeks and still no refund. I called and spoke to Gabby. She said the party had not been cancelled. Frustrated I asked her to cancel again as the groom already had cancelled. I asked so now everyone is cancelled and she said yes and they ishould be receiving refunds minus the deposit. It has been about 2 weeks and FOG and FOB have yet to recive a refund. Called today and spoke to Erica. She said I let the groom know you everyone had to cancel and i thought you two would have communicated. First off, she doesn’t need to worry about how we are communicationg she needs to worry about the communication in her STORE. As this is not the first time we received different info from different employees. She was very rude and would not take blame or understand that communication between her and her staff is not strong. I asked to speak to her manager and she said she is a manger. I didn’t ask to speak to manager at her store I need to speak to someone above her. She wouldn’t give me a phone number she barely gave me a name Jenna. She said Jenna will call me which I highly doubt.

Much better than MH. Erica was very cordial and catered to my needs. She spoke very professionally and made the process of choosing suits for my groomsmen with ease. The fact that she highlighted everything for me and made everything so easy to understand was what I appreciated most. Definitely a great bang for your buck.

Talk about eh service. If you come here at a convenient time for yourself you’ll likely find yourself waiting for a good 30 minutes since they have only had two workers each time I come here. My precious experiences here were similar, but this one in particular finally compelled me to write a review.
My father and I first came here on a Saturday morning at 1030 and waited until 1130 until we left just to get fitted for a wedding. The tux size and design were already chosen by the groom on another date too. I called a few days before the wedding too, and for some reason they made my pick up in brea (where the rest of the group was getting their goodies) even though my dad was picking up on Montclair as well. I was lucky that I called earlier otherwise I would’ve wasted an hour driving.
After that, my father picked up our tux while I was at work and when I tried it on at home the shirt size was completely off. I came back at seven that evening to get it exchanged and they made me wait for 20 minutes so a few other people could get seen. When I was finally approached they gave me a shirt that fit fine aside from the neck being too tight, and they said their shirts are sized according to neck sizes. So I ended up paying 150 for a tux rental that was more of a headache than anything and doesn’t even fit comfortably. I don’t plan on coming here in the future for renting or buying suits for a special occasion of any sort.

Terrible Customer service, The place smells nasty ! I was waiting over 25 min for help at The end i just walked out. Also the brands are really cheap they charge you around $ 160 for a cheap brand that you can get new for probably the same price elsewhere.

Two stars only because the tux fit well and was one of the best rentals I’ve had. The 3 lost stars are for abominable customer service. While the initial fitting with one of the employees was quick and great, the remainder of the experience left much to be desired. The manager lady needs to take a class on how to treat customers. Upon picking up my tux, I asked to have my event date adjusted in order to apply one of their 50 percent off promotions (which I was not made aware of initially) but she made up some bs about how it was already in the computer and couldn’t be changed. So fine… I let these people have their few extra bucks since the tux fit well and I needed it at that point. When my fiancé subsequently went to return the tux during her limited lunch break, the same manager, after noticing her waiting to return the tux, carried on nonsense chitchat for over 15min with some lady whose husband was changing in back. Even that guy later noticed how annoyed my fiancé was. Couldn’t that «manager» have excused herself from her chitchatting for 30 seconds to check-in the tux and provide the receipt?! Come on lady!

Bad experience… I went to Friar Tux because my wedding party was scattered all over and I needed a place with lots of locations. I wanted to make it easy on the wedding party. I got fitted 5 months before the wedding. I went the day before I was supposed to leave the country for my wedding and my order was a mess! I was not sure why they even took my measurements… Shirt was too big, jacket stained and old hem lines on the sleeves. After hours of complaining, waiting for a new jacket from another location and going to Nordstrom to purchase a shirt that fit we made it work. The wedding was perfect!

Diane Apalategui is the best. i was getting married and the groom and groomsmen were getting their tux from here. diane helped us go through the variety of styles they had, and so told us the had a photobooth and we can get the wedding party gifts from there and everything. she was very helpful. she was also helpful when i needed to change something. i had to change the bestmans color of the vest and tie it was like 2 weeks b4 the wedding and she did it. i never had to ask her twice. she also kept everything organized and would call me personally if there was a question i didnt answer. im def. sending my husband back here and anybody else i know. the service and variety is excellent.

Quick and easy!
My fiancé and I went here yesterday to pick out his tux and the groomsmen tuxes for our wedding. We worked with Jeff and the process was great. We had such a pleasant experience and would totally recommend this place for anyone who needs to rent tuxes :)

I totally agree with Miranda. We rented from Montclair for her wedding and they were wonderful! Easy, quick, and when the shirt was a little too baggy for my husband, they had the other size right there so that we didn’t have to make a second trip. SUPER!
