This place is a ripp off!!! I took my my 2002 honda there and everything passed except for the visual test that the guy did. It was for spark plug wires that said high performance on them. So I took it the autozone to get the right wires. They looked at it and laughed at me, they said who ever heard of a car not passing smog because off spark plug wires. Autozone told me the ones I had on it was the right one they were just after market. So I called this smog tech place and told the guy that he failed me, that those wires are after market n the right ones for my car. He says but if they were yellow wires than it would be fine. So basically this guy knew that it was the right wires but yet still decided to fail me. so I could look like a dumb ass trying to fix something that had absolutely nothing wrong with it and than come back again n pay $ 40 more to resmog. This place is just out to ripp ppl off to make more money… instead of just being honest. well to all the ppl think they can take advantage of hard working ppl, just having to say karmas a bitch what goes around comes around!!!

I don’t have a particular smog place I go to, I mean it’s every 2 years so why would I. I just google coupons and go to the best coupon place. BUT I will definitely come back to smog tech next time! And I have already recommended them to several people.
They have a good coupon right now, $ 21.95, that is the cheapest I have seen ever. And they said to bring in the receipt next time and they will honor that price even if that coupon special is not going on anymore.
They were quick, made the whole process super easy, and they were very friendly and accommodating. I was truly blown away by the excellent service.

I tend to go to a nearby smog station, but their machine was down. Found this place as a was looking for another station.
Prices was low and service was great. I was in and out with no problem. Friendly team and spacious waiting area. They also sell water and other drinks if you’re thirsty.
Even though this place is a little further than the place I usually go, I will most likely bring my other other vehicles here.
You can’t beat a friendly staff with the right price.

We usually go to another smog test center on McHenry but they were closed the Fri. after Christmas, so we found Smog Tech. What a great find! They were fast, efficient and offered a very competitive price! Plus they were opened and really wanted our business-​nice young couple trying to make this new business successful. Today, we are back again getting another vehicle smog checked. They were friendly and offered us a cup of fresh hot coffee while we waited. :) Our experience was once again fast, efficient and their price can’t be beat! Thanks Smog Tech McHenry!

Well I just got swindled. I had researched smog places and to my surprise I found a coupon for this place that made it about $ 5 – 10 cheaper. So I made the drive. Told the woman at the desk I had a coupon and had it out on the counter. She had me get my registration and leave the keys in the car. They had my vehicle hooked up being tested before they had any paperwork done. That is when she explained the cars from 76 – 95 have the extra $ 30 charge so the coupon was for them. My car smog a 2005 is usually $ 85 but she will give me $ 40 of and waive this fee and that fee and use this new machine. I was blind sided and told my car was almost done so I signed then started thinking. The coupon explained the 76 – 95 cars are more money and the 22 dollar price was for most cars. So when she came back I asked her to explain again since my car was an 05, not 95 or earlier. She then explained the coupon is only for cars 76 – 95, which is complete b.s. At this point my car is done and I am left feeling very taken advantage of. I will be alerting bbb if they are even a member and my cc company to watch for fraudulent charges. Super shady and would never go back. I posted a picture of the coupon. They should have told me all charges before hooking my car up, they know exactly what they are doing, ripping people off.

From what I researched, Smogtech has the best price in Modesto. The staff is very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. It took less than 10 minutes to complete my smog check. Thanks Magnol!

I went in today at 1:00. I was the only customer :) My car was ready in minutes. The person that helped me was friendly and helpful. He took my online coupon with no problem. The price out the door was $ 35. I’ve never had such quick service. I will recommend Smog Tech to others.

Very friendly workers, and they got the job done. But $ 30 for a low pressure fuel evap test? Really? I later found out was $ 5 everywhere else. Aside from that, I asked up front the rate for a smog test and was told by he manager that it would be done for $ 35. I did expect that price to rise a little, because of the certificate charge. But it wasn’t until two days later that I found out I was charged another $ 30. Not only was I lied to, but the way they slipped that charge in was really sketchy. And they didn’t verify the estimate price with me before or after the smog or sale. DO NOT GO HERE. I totally regret it. Deceitful bait and switch smog shop. Sketch city.

Don’t be FOOLED by their ads online or ads that come in the mail. I’m used to paying about $ 35 for a smog check. This place advertises about that rate, but in actuality charged $ 53! Didn’t say that until it was over! total RIP off Bait and Switch. Absolute worst place to get a smog check. I have never been so overcharged for an advertised special

I was in and out within 30 minutes. I came in for a flyer promotion that I received via mail. The flyer advertised smogs starting at $ 21.75 (before certificate). Seemed like a bait and switch to me. The cheapest smog was $ 35 (before certificate) for a passenger car. Another customer in the waiting room was asking about the same thing as he had come in for the promotion and the price was much higher than expected. Although they got the job done, I’ll opt for another smog shop as the ad was deceiving and I ended up paying $ 53 for a smog a could have gotten for no more than $ 40 out the door. Their explanation? The ET (electronic transfer) cost over $ 10!!! What!?! It should only be $ 2 max! Definitely not going back! Please don’t give them any more service.

I called to discuss the bait and switch tactics that were pulled on my son (over 130 bucks for a check-​recheck after fail) and was told that that is just the pricing. Asked them to help me understand how he got a check-​recheck from another shop for more than half their price. They had no answer… Only wanted to know who was offering the price. Highly recommend smogging your car somewhere else. These people pray on your lack of knowledge. Calling the BAR and BBB to report their shady tactics.

EXTREMELY fast, EXTREMELY reasonable prices! I was in and out in about 15 – 20 minutes, I didn’t even get to finish this review before my car was done. Will definitely recommend this to everyone I know. Easy to find, located in the (new) building that used to be the old stereo shop that burned down several years ago. Close enough and fast enough to downtown to take care of a smog on a lunch break from work.

They were professional and friendly. The place is very clean and quick service. I like that they only smog check, so I didn’t have to worry about any hidden up sell.
