Customer service is what keeps this place alive, and they’ve got it goin’ on! They actually care about their customers, unlike the big pharmacy chains. The pharmacist is happy to come out and chat, and if you’re a regular, they’ll know you by name. Also has a little store that sells greeting cards, trinkets and general health supplies. It’s one of the only compounding pharmacies left in the area.

This pharmacy is not CVS. This pharmacy is not Walgreens. This pharmacy is not Long’s. This pharmacy is not Rite-Aid. This pharmacy is not Hi-School. This pharmacy is not Sav-On. This pharmacy is not Eckerd. This pharmacy is not the Medicine Shoppe. This pharmacy is not Wegmans. This pharmacy is not Hy-Vee. This pharmacy is not Kinney Drugs. This is Model Pharmacy, and it is one of a dying breed. Not old enough to cash in on the nostalgia market, but definitely a decade or two out of vogue. They sell greeting cards, some«Precious Moment» junk, a humble selection of toiletries and assorted health and personal care products, and over the counter meds — in addition to being a full service prescription pharmacy. They also sell those horrendous, gawdawful, «Red Hats» that some post-menopausal octogenarians wear to frighten off the spectre of death. There is no way on god’s green earth that Model Pharmacy can compete with the pricing of places like Target, Walgreen’s, or Wal*Mart — that’s just a fact of life, hardly worth noting. But, there is no way any of those corporate, soulless, temples to consumerism, self-indulgence, gluttony, and greed can hold a candle to the personal level of service you’ll receive(whether you want it or not) at a place like Model Pharmacy. You can also pay your local utility bills here — but they only take cash or check(no credit/debit cards). They will also sell you your prescription meds on account and bill you. That is so quaint I get a little choked up just thinking about it. I was in there today. Half their shelves seemed bare. I saw the pharmacist who owns the place; I haven’t seen him for, what, 10 years? He recognized me. I wonder how long this place can hold on, how may offers to sell out they’ve spurned. Probably not even a threat to the giants anymore, I doubt they will see any more offers anytime soon. The predators may let Model Pharmacy just fade away. When that happens, I’ll miss it.
