The pork ribs were smoked too long and ended up dried out and nearly crispy. I love bacon… but I wanted ribs, not bacon. Very good coleslaw & baked beans, and the sauces(regular & spicy) are better than average too. A little pricey overall.

Service is great! Family friendly. They have lunch specials and they offer a rib plate. They have 2 different kind of sauces. The restaurant is inside a modified house, has a lot of fun written messages in the wall. We really enjoyed our lunch here while vacationing.

Stick with the ribs. They’re good. I wasn’t crazy about the pulled pork, though. The spicy sauce wasn’t my favorite either, it tastes kind of like chili powder from the grocery store.

A waitress from another restaurant in Mobile recommend this place because she used to work there and said it would change our lives, and man was she right! It’s in the middle of nowhere and took us awhile to find, but it was definitely worth it. The food was amazing, they definitely know how to use a smoker, and the service was super friendly. if you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods, make sure to stop here…

My God, do you poor bastards in Mobile actually think this is what barbecue is supposed to taste like? It has a good«dive» atmosphere, with signatures covering everything not moving(there’s also a shower stall in the men’s room, although they’ve installed a urinal inside it.) But the flip side of eating in dives is that the food is supposed to make up for it. Brick Pit’s prices would have been OK for really good ‘cue, but I’ve paid a lot less for MUCH better. The pulled pork was dry and stringy, with no noticeable flavor of smoke. I saw their smoker out back(and it smelled terrific) so all I can think is they must be cooking it way too fast and hot; there’s no damned way it was smoked 30 hours as they claimed on Food Network(which was why we tried the place at all.) Both sauces tasted mostly of sugar and chili powder; the beans were the same, but with less sugar. My wife said the cole slaw was OK, but the potato salad I had was pretty bland. High point? Ummm, the bread was fresh, I guess. Maybe the banana pudding or ribs would have made up for the rest, but we weren’t in the mood to throw good money after bad risking it. Maybe we just caught them on an off night, or maybe it’s recently gone downhill and only the locals know it(it was awfully empty for 7:00 on a Saturday night.) But I honestly feel pity for people who would think this was worth four stars. As a person who takes his barbecue seriously, all I can say is that if this really is «The Best Smoked Barbecue in the Great State of Alabama»(as a sign claimed) that would be a tragedy.

This is the best bbq place in town and the best pulled pork bbq that i’ve ever had. I have been there a couple times, and anytime i have family or friends from out of town, i take them there and the reviews are always great.

Living in NYC, you don’t get a chance for real wood smoked anything… but, we got engaged on a road trip from Florida to New Orleans — and then stopped here for our first meal as an engaged couple. Gotta say, if this meal is any indication of our future… it’s gonna be good.

BBQ is my favorite food and this is my favorite BBQ restaurant. There isnt much to say other than that. The pictures show you what it looks like outside and in but you have to go there for yourself to get the smells and flavors that accompany this delicious meat and sauce. My usual is the jumbo pork sandwich with spicy sauce and dont you dare forget to get a side of Mrs Waite’s banana pudding! As other reviewers have pointed out and as I admit myself, the side dishes like potato salad and baked beans are average. Thats why I stick to the basics when I am here… meat, bread, sauce, banana pudding, sweet tea. THANKYOUVERYMUCH!

Awful! I had the pulled pork sandwich, «homemade banana pudding» and ice tea. The pork did not have a smokey flavor, rather it was bland. The banana pudding was the quickie recipe that we all make in a pinch. The tea tasted like it wasn’t brewed, yuk! Waste of time and money. The only positive about this meal was the barbie sauce.

Very nice ribs and sauce. Service was good and friendly. I think I was served 5 or 6 ribs, each nice and meaty with sauce. Potato salad was good, different from what I’m used to. I like the southern appetizer of white bread and bbque sauce. Get the banana pudding if they have some left. Look for«Gonzofam7» on the wall.

We had been craving BBQ, and the hubs saw The Brick Pit on Food Network one night, and they said they smoked their butts for 30 hours and the ribs for 12, so we thought we’d give it a try. We don’t waste our time with those high-heat, fast cooking BBQ types. I ordered the BBQ sandwich, which came served on Texas toast. I sweet talked my hubby into ordering the ribs so I could try them. We both ordered the beans and potato salad for sides. The BBQ sandwich was good. They bring out the sauce so you can add the amount you want. I like that. The ribs — honestly can’t believe I’m saying this, but they tasted too smokey. I know, that sounds unrealistic. They were still good though. The sides were good as well. The beans had that fresh-out-of-a-can flavor, and the potato salad had some dill in it, which was a nice touch. The food was really 3 star quality. What brought this place up to 4 stars??? Well, the atmosphere for one thing. It was divey, like BBQ joints are supposed to be. The service was the other. The service was fantastic! The pitmaster even showed us his smoker. Of course, my husband was enamored with that. I don’t want him to get the big head so don’t tell him I said this, but his BBQ is still better. The prices were a little steep, but no higher than any other BBQ places in town.

YES. This was the very first restaurant I went to when I moved down here from Chicago. The staff is personable. Family-run joint. Don’t forget to get the banana pudding(you’ll die). It’s BYOB(awesome) and a really home-style place. They have a pipe that takes smoke directly from the smokehouse and it opens on the street so when you drive by it smells like piggy heaven. Two kinds of BBQ sauce, regular and spicy. Spicy one is a bit more smokey. Brisket is beautiful and I’m a big fan of the baked beans. Overall, Brick Pit is one of those places you’ll go to and in the future have incredible memories of food, family and friends.

Had the pork bbq sandwich, which was pretty decent. However the prices are way off. This would be a regular place I would frequent if their prices were lower. I like the atmosphere of the place. It is pretty grungy in a old south kind of way.

We are so glad we stopped at this place on our road trip! Unilocal you did us right with all these great reviews! We ordered the pork sandwich and it was the best pulled pork we have had, it was large smoky chunks of pork smothered in a delicious BBQ sauce. Probably our favorite BBQ sauce we have had in a long time. We also had the ribs. They didn’t fall off the bone but they weren’t dry at all. Moist and a great smoky flavor. Also had the baked beans and potato salad– both were delicious. We ended it with the banana pudding I read great reviews on but we didn’t love it. Just tasted like banana pudding to me. But that doesn’t leased my rating because we aren’t big pudding fans to start with. Cool place, great service, definitely worth the stop!

I’m always looking for great bbq and this place did not disappoint me. The ribs were very tender and the pulled pork sandwich was piled high with a great tasting BBQ sauce. It is definitely a place to go if you are a visitor to mobile and want to experience good southern bbq

Good ribs. Decent pulled pork. Excellent BBQ sauce. No beef at all. This Texan needs her brisket! Not nearly as dirty or gross looking inside as people have described.

There’s so many BBQ restaurants in the South, it’s tough to distinguish those which stand out. Meanwhile, no one will dispute The Brick Pit is better than average. What struck us most about this place was it’s culture. Upon arrival, it’s obvious this isn’t part of a chain. You grasp a backwoods BBQ feel and a laid back local spin. Does the Brick Pit dish out the best BBQ we’ve ever had? No. It’s is damn good, yes. And, when in Mobile, you’ll be challenged to find better, unless you go to Dreamland. Brick Pit an Dreamland are similar in a way. Unlike places like Jim N Nick’s, these two have smaller menus and attempt to focus on a few items they do well. At the Pit that’s pulled pork, smoked chicken and ribs, along with a few sides and one dessert item. Meanwhile, if rolling through Mobile, it’s defintely worth a visit. You’ll normally find cute girls from USA working, awesome sweet tea and BBQ that’s worth the price tag.

Who doesn’t love Bar-B-Que done right, in all my travels I’ve found the south has more options when it’s comes to great BBQ than any other part of the country. There are lots of reasons for this but I won’t go into a history lesson, this review is all about Bill Armbrecnt’s Brick Pit BBQ, most great BBQ places start with an owner who’s passionate about BBQ and not so concerned about the eating establishment itself. I for one like the simple restaurant ideology as long as they are clean and there’s an open table to enjoy the main attraction. Well the Brick Pit is just an old house turned restaurant with a giant smoker on the back screened-in porch there’s a few parking spots out front and lots more parking out back. The chow line started at the front entrance continued down the hall past the restrooms and finally at the counter where you’ll most likely find Bill taking the orders he’s not only the pit master and owner he works hard to ensure everything flows smoothly and that the customers are happy if you’re eating it here no doubt you will speak to Bill as he makes his rounds showing his appreciation. So how does one cook pork for 30 hours without drying it out I don’t think you’ll ever get the step by step instructions from Bill but he has eluded some of those secrets to Adam Richman, the man who makes a living eating incredibly large amounts of food, on the television series«Man Vs. Food Nation».(Check it out on YouTube) This Southern Style BBQ is full of smoke, it’s moist and tender, that’s true of the ribs the pulled pork or the smoked chicken so if a fully smoked piece of meat is not your thing you may not be impressed, but for most of us that truly enjoy southern BBQ this is a requirement. I also recommend getting the sauce on the side this will allow you to enjoy the flavors of the meats and also allows you add as much as you like, the sauce is great but no matter how good any sauce is I want to add it myself. You definitely need to stop here it’s a bucket list type place.

On a road trip to Nola so we had to make a BBQ stop and this was the winner. We did a combo ribs/chicken plate with baked beans and potato salad. Amazing all around. The beans were awesome, actually it changed my whole perspective on baked beans. I typically avoid them, but I this time I couldn’t get enough! Loved everything. Keep up the good BBQ work!

Wow! Not good, it’s great!!! I think I just ate the best BBQ I have ever had. I am not a connoisseur of BBQ, even though I’ve been eating it since I remember. I find that BBQ is very individualized, so unlike some who criticize over the the smallest blemish, I won’t do that today. However, I know this from eating at the many BBQ joints, dives, restaurants, pubs and food trucks, this was an epiphany moment in sticking cooked meat in my mouth. firstly I like the atmosphere its warm and inviting, and they’er proud of their product. They tell you the hours it takes to smoke the protein. And, in my pork butt’s case, it’s butt sat in the smoker for some 30 hrs. That’s right, 30 hrs, I wonder if I would taste so good after 30 hrs in a smoker. Typically I am not a fan of pulled pork, I find some rip it apart to small shreds and it loses it’s texture. This was the best pulled pork I have EVER had. it was not sauce, sauce was on the side. It was pulled, but in hunks, and it had bark on it. Also, it was so flavorful. My baked bean side was just great too, not heavily smoked and not overly sugary. The staff, once again, there is something about servers who enjoy their job, polite, caring and informative. I’m sure the owner would be happy, but, I’m happier about getting assistance by someone who is competent and pleasant. This is a come back again place. I was a first time customer, but, I’ll be back!
