I was helped by Becky– and she made everything so comfortable and easy. I’ve had waxing done before and had bittersweet experiences. Becky made me so at ease and like we were just chatting.
Great service and very inexpensive! They have groupings to use too!

I bought a groupon for a wax and was very skeptical after reading their scheduling policy and horrific reviews. I called today and made an appointment and when I arrived at the salon, I was seen right away. Becky was so wonderful!!! She made me feel at ease and distracted me with conversation. The wax was painless and easy. It was a very pleasant experience all considering. However, I would recommend making an appointment and incase you need to change/​cancel do call in advance. Will definitely be coming back!

I have found Wax Kitten to be one of the cheapest place to get waxed in the Twin Cities area. I am used to sugaring and haven’t been able to find a place to get this service done, but the wax used at Wax Kitten hasn’t disappointed.
I have been waxed by Novelle and Nikki and both are pleasant to talk to and provide a wonderful experience. So far, I have sent two co-​workers here who were virgins to waxing and both would agree that Wax Kitten provided a relaxing environment. Because of this, I would suggest a referral reward program… just saying.
Currently, there is a checkin for $ 10 off your first Brazilian Wax/​Back. However, they also run a Groupon special for $ 35 for a Brazilian wax. The latter tends to be a better deal. Also, each maintenance session is $ 35.
I love any local business that allows me to book appointments online. However, I think you still have to call in to cancel. If I could do both online, this would be awesome.
In the meantime, Please let me know if you find a cheaper place that sugars. Until then, I am loyal to Wax Kitten.

Like many customers I decided to try this place out because of a Groupon, and wanting a friendlier waxer than who I’ve been going to at the Refinery. Well, I should’ve stuck to that (no pun intended) because seeing ANY waxer is an improvement on what happened today!
I got a bad feeling when I received a 3 PM message from the salon regarding my 4:30 appointment, asking if I could come early or at 5 PM, because «Nikki» (my waxer, I guess) «has to pick up her son.» Sure, I thought, these little things come up, no problem. I left a message saying I would come straight over and be there at 4. But it bothered me, as it was freezing and snowing outside and I’d scheduled the appointment between two days of midterms and was already rushed and stressed. It made me feel like my time as a customer wasn’t valued. Whatever, I drove directly to Lyn-​Lake and arrived at 4 PM, a half hour early… only to find a deserted three-​room storefront that looked about as much like a salon as someone’s recently vacated apartment with cosmetology licenses posted on the wall.
Given the light under the door, someone was in one of the two back rooms apparently giving a wax but did not come out to greet me or say anything. I waited for 15 minutes, checked my phone and saw that someone had called me back and said that if I wanted to have a wax with someone else I could when I got there, but if I wanted one with Nikki I’d have to reschedule. Well, I was there, but nobody else appeared to be. I called the salon while sitting in the waiting room to see if anyone would come out to answer, but nothing. So I left a note to show I’d been there and left. I probably could’ve waited 15 minutes longer and had a lackluster wax, but at that point was fed up and didn’t want to give this place any more of my time.
Based on this experience and previous reviews, the waxers at Wax Kitten clearly value their own schedules more than customer service. For a service that women (and men) typically get as a form of self-​pampering, that was a big turn-​off. I wasted my time only to get ignored — and now I have to hastily schedule another wax before going out of town this weekend.
Skip it and find a different place. I lost $ 35 on this Groupon but am I going to reschedule? NO. On top of all this, the salon has a draconian «no show» policy where you have to pay double the original price if you cancel with a Groupon and want to reschedule. Nor will I give my voucher to a friend, even though I’d like to give someone a free gift — why would I send any of my friends to an unprofessional place like this? I hope this salon did not receive any of my money; if so, it’s clearly a scam.

I went to Wax Kitten to get my back waxed. I had NEVER had any waxing done before. I only went because my girlfriend shaved my back for me and I wanted to surprise her.
I lucked out and got an appointment with the owner, Novelle. She was a total pro! She put me at ease and quickly went to work. I say quickly because she didn’t seem like she wanted me to think too much about what was going to happen.
Before I knew it, ZIP! she had taken a strip of hair off my back. Before I had even a chance to think, «Well, that wasn’t too bad…», ZIP! another strip came off. I was very surprised that it didn’t hurt more. She worked quickly, zip, zip, zip. Done. She had me sit up to do my neck and then ventured to the shoulder/​arm area. We had time so I asked her to do my eyebrows. No problem. Then… we talked manscaping… more specifically; crack and sac…
She asked if I wanted a test patch to see if it was something I could tolerate. Sure. You guessed it, ZIP! I was VERY surprised it didn’t hurt more.
On check-​out I made an appointment to get the rest of the crack and sac done the next week. I just had that done and again, I am surprised how well that went. I had Nikki and was very pleased.
Overall very impressed with the place. I was surprised to read a Unilocal review that told Wax Kitten to ‘step it up’… pfft… It’s is a very affordable wax salon at Lake & Lyndale… It is exactly what I expected and what I wanted.
I have already booked my follow-​on appointment!

Everyone was so outgoing and easy to talk to. They make the experience comfortable and easy. I would absolutely go back and recommend it to anyone!

I had my first Brazilian wax experience here today thanks to Groupon and WHAT A BLESSING!
Was greeted as soon as I walked in and the esthetician brought me back immediately despite me being 30 minutes early.
Very sweet lady, I REALLY wish I would’ve gotten her name!
She made me feel very at ease and was extremely thorough. There was nobody else there but her and she still worked with a sense of urgency (which I always appreciate).
I’m very pleased with the end results and I hope to be back soon!
This place is a gem!

Ehhh… I came here because of a groupon. I was like great, it’s cheap and conveniently located! When I walked in nobody was at the front desk so I just sat and waited. Finally someone walked in from her lunch break and got behind the desk. She ended up being the one to wax me and the only employee in the building. I booked my appointment with Nikki because of reviews and apparently it was her day off. Ok… Why did she take the day off when she already had someone booked?
This was only my second Brazilian but it was the most painful. At least she moved really quickly, I was happy about that. But she got wax everywhere, it was stringy and on my hands. I brushed it off myself. She seemed almost careless when waxing my outer labia, I could feel the wax inside my hooha. There was one spot where she didn’t pull it off right away and it must’ve stayed there for five minutes, hardening.
When I left, I could barely walk. She mentioned nothing about after care. I was sore for two days and had to wear skirts without underwear to let the air flow.
Three days later the bumps and ingrown hairs started coming, all over. A few even inside of me. The skin feels more like a shave than a wax. When I got my first Brazilian at the European wax center I only got one bump. Luckily, I still had a product from them to help with this. I will definitely be sticking with the European wax center from now on. I wouldn’t recommend wax kitten to anyone.

What a great little waxing place in uptown. They had a parking lot (for free!) attached in the back which is so rare for uptown, Getting waxed can alway be a little awkward experience but Nikki is amazing, she puts all of your worries at ease and is an amazing waxer. She is able to make it so you have minimal pain and does so quickly, I will definitely be heading back for her!

I have been coming here regularly for over 4 years now. It is a small business– hence why they don’t have all the bells and whistles you get at a spa. But they definitely know what they’re doing!
Many reviews for wax kitten complain about the lack of someone to answer the phone, be at the front desk, etc. Let me make it easy for you– just schedule online!!! If you want all the bells and whistles then go pay extra at a spa somewhere. I personally would rather support a small local business. Online scheduling is so easy! Then reschedule at the end of each visit– so easy on everyone.
Nikki is my girl and she is awesome! She knows her stuff and is great at what she does. She’s also enjoyable to chat with while in office.

I don’t feel good about writing this review but maybe it will be a lesson for the person who works there and maybe she will start to treat people equally. Treat people the way you wanna be treated!
I had an app with them and I wanted to reschedule it but she said there is no opening all day and my friend called after 2 min and the lady there told her she can get her in within an hour. I just find it very strange and if wearing a scarf on my head made her treat me differently that’s just so sad! This was going to be my go to place since I live right next door I guess it’s not anymore.

I typically have gotten Brazilian waxes here and they are efficient and generally well done. Good technique. I can’t give them 5 stars though because of a general lack of professionalism/​lack of consistency. A few recommendations for Novelle and Nikki, because I like you and wish you well. You need to «spa it up» quite a bit.
1. Honor your schedule: You view yourselves as interchangeable aestheticians. I book online (because calling on the phone is a crap shoot– see your reviews) and when I book with one particular aesthetician, I do expect to see THAT AESTHETICIAN. I literally never know who in the heck is going to wax me until I arrive. Very NOT industry standard. And I do have a preference which is rarely granted. Why bother to list your names with availability if you are not committed to your schedule? A phone call to inform us of the change, at least, would be a professional courtesy. And canceling the day of the appointment, more than once (especially if I am already there), is unacceptable without an offer of something in return. This happened a lot when I first started coming to you. I left for a while because of it. And I usually don’t come back when I leave! I can’t believe all the reviews on Unilocal that speak of being stood up. You are seriously lucky to still be in business.
2. Location Presentation: Clean your rooms! Regularly! Thoroughly! Often! Waxing is messy, but I’ve been ushered back to rooms that I would NEVER let a customer see. Nasty. You quickly clean up but it does leave doubt when one puts one’s naked bum on the table. In your business, this kind of doubt cannot exist. No one wants a health issue as a result of your shop. Also, distract us from the process by putting some art on the walls, music or a plant! A little more spa in the actual waxing rooms (like the attention you put into the hallway and front room) — they are too bare and harshly lit.
3. Personal presentation: you are really beautiful women. Fix yourself up for work! Honestly, ladies, it looks like y’all partied all night and overslept. Ripped up jeans, flip flops, tousled, unkempt hair, no makeup, bags under the eyes. Take pride in your personal presentation. You are business people. You are in the beauty industry, even if it is a part of beauty that few people get to see. We look to you for setting a certain standard of «groomed».
3. Accommodate modesty by default: give your customer a few minutes behind a closed door to disrobe. It’s slightly uncomfortable not because I’m a prude, but because it’s a standard– at the doctor, massage therapist or other waxing salons, it’s a boundary for you and respect for your client. Give us something (paper sheet?) to cover up with til you come back. Reader, don’t be afraid to ask them to leave while you undress if they are standing there chatting and stirring wax while you reach to unzip your pants.
4. It’s my name. Use it. I’ve been coming to you for at least 3 years. My name is not «hon». It’s an obvious cover-​up for the fact that after all this time and money and staring at my naked nether regions, you have no idea what my name is. Wow. At least get it from your online schedule and use it when I come in. I like to think of myself as more than just another cha cha. Wish you would too.
Pretty good technique, nice ladies, not a lot of ambience or basic standards beyond that. Just need to step up quality and pride in the business a little. «Spa it up» a bit. It wouldn’t take much, honestly, and it’s a shame that the details listed here detract from a positive perception of your skill. Tips would improve as well.
Reader, if you are into a high end experience, this place is probably not the place. If you just want a quick, no frills wax, it’s been good in my experience.

I came here for my first wax ever, using a Groupon. My first experience went pretty well. There wasn’t anyone at the front when I got there, but someone came up shortly after I arrived so no complaints there unlike many of the other reviewers. I figured since I had a good first experience, why not buy more Groupons and maybe become a regular here?
So I bought my Groupon and booked my appointment online (over a month in advance of the appointment date). A month or so later, THE DAY OF my appointment I get a call letting me know I’ll have to reschedule because she is supposed to be off at the time of my appointment. So I ask for other openings within the same week, nothing was available and the girl I spoke to (I’ll refrain from using her name) was definitely not in the mood to try to accommodate and make me feel like she cared about getting me in at all.
I took the hint and after I got off the phone, I immediately contacted Groupon for a refund because I decided I definitely don’t want anything to do with this business. It’s completely ridiculous and unprofessional that they would call me THE FREAKING DAY OF my appointment and tell me they can’t take me. My final thoughts? Lazy and unprofessional.
I just can’t even. No, just no. I would never EVER come here again.

I bought a Groupon for this place a while ago, tried to use it more than once, eventually asked Groupon for a refund.
The first time, a wedding and my birthday were coming up, so I wanted to look and feel great. I called at least two weeks in advance of when I wanted to be waxed, left several messages, no one ever answered their phone. When I finally did get a call back several days later, I was told they didn’t have any openings for at least a month.
Okay, so I’ll save my Groupon for later and go somewhere else… I found a better LivingSocial deal to Aric & Ashley Salon in Maplewood and have been going there once a month ever since, even after using up my LS voucher. Rae is great and you can pre-​book your next appointment for really cheap, and the send out a mobile text reminder when your appointment is approaching.
Flash forward a few months and I went to use up my voucher again before it expired… Still no one ever answers the phone, I left multiple message. I had Groupon refund my amount.
A week AFTER Groupon had already refunded my amount, someone from Wax Kitten finally returned my call. Oh well.

DO. NOT. GO. HERE.
Especially if you are on a time crunch. I am leaving for vacation TOMORROW at 7 a.m. and no one decided to show up to work today for my 9:30 a.m. appt that the esthetician made me reschedule less than 24 hours in advance of my original appointment. Hello– your own policy states that I have to reschedule before 24 hours of my appointment– but you can just take that day off randomly?
Also, this isn’t a random occurrence. I guess I can’t speak to their waxing abilities, BECAUSE THERE WASN’T ANYONE THERE DURING MY APPOINTMENT TIME, but the owner of the makeup shop across the hallway told me there was another woman waiting for a 9am appointment that had left just before I got there for my 9:30. She also got fed up and left. I quote the woman who advised me to not waste my time, «This isn’t… a rare thing to happen. I would go, if I were you.»
SO UNPROFESSIONAL, I will advise literally even my worst enemies from counting on this place. I had to scramble for an appointment somewhere else.

Don’t waste your money!
I noticed some bumpy red marks that hadn’t disappeared post-​wax, so even though I’m on vacation, I made an appointment with a local dermatologist. It turns out Wax Kitten gave me multiple infections due to (and I quote my doctor), «improper technique» and «insufficient sanitation during waxing.» So while my girlfriends are having fun down by the pool, I’m stuck in our hotel room blotting prescription ointment «down there.» Let me just say, my vacation is ruined!
So remember – at Wax Kitten, you get what you pay for. Their services are cheap because they skimp on customer service, and are ultimately under-​trained and UNSANITARY.
I don’t want anyone to have to suffer like I am. Go somewhere else! You might pay a few more $$, but your wax will be sanitary and professional.

Worst wax I have ever received (other than similar place by 59^th/​France area)!! Decent for the coupon price I got, but I would never pay full price for their services! Salons and Spas have similar pricing and use better products and technic. Cheap product, painful (and I have had many waxes so I know there is some discomfort), NO after wax care! I left sticky!
Also, I had made an appointment with one girl because she had decent reviews. And arrived to find someone else doing my wax with no explanation!!!

Scheduling can be a little tricky, and you may have to wait a bit once you arrive because the way it’s set up there’s usually only one person working, and can’t be at the front desk and waxing a customer at the same time.
Wait in the lobby and read a magazine patiently, and then get a quick, professional and exceptional wax for a an affordable price!

My first experience here started off a little rocky, I booked on-​line and showed up at my appointment time… and nobody was around. I sat and waited… and waited… and waited. I even called the number to see if someone would come answer the phone. nobody did. I almost left but I NEEDED a Brazilian.
SO GLAD I DIDN’T! It turns out they were short staffed that day and they had tried calling me (they didn’t leave me a message, which might have lost them a star if the wax wasn’t so awesome).
My whole entire Brazilian wax took 8 min. And Novale got every hair. It didn’t even hurt as much as waxes usually do (and I have gotten plenty of waxes).
I now pre-​book every 4 weeks and have never has another issue waiting for someone to get me. My waxes only cost $ 35 (for a full Brazilian $ 35!!!). This last time I saw Jenny and she was amazing as well and a little more chatty if you need that type of distraction :)
Not sure why some people had such a bad experience, I love it here, and will keep coming back!

Never having had a brazilian before, thought I would check it out.
Not sure how I can give 5 stars for something so obviously painful, but overall it was a good experience.
She was quick and to the point which is good w/​the wax. Very professional, very nice and was doing her best to put me at ease and to tell me what she was doing and how much more we had to go.
Pretty sure you just make your appt online and show up — that’s what I did — they are in a shared building and it looks like a shared reception area with the other biz and then a nicely decorated room in the back that is clean, etc.
If you don’t have the internets and try to call and call and call as per the peeps below — well it’s not set up for that.
