Top Gun Auto Detail and Reconditioning

If you purchased a Groupon or ask if you can pay the Groupon price +tax, I thought it was a great value if you compare prices to other places. No problems with scheduling for me. They answered the phone, were able to get me in within one week and they were done within the time frame I had asked for. I had the interior of my car cleaned and no soaked seats for me. Jo Jo and his son were very hardworking.
FYI: new Minneapolis location (3662 Minnehaha Ave Mpls 55 406).

I didn’t have any trouble getting in and getting an appointment. When I got there, I went to the Coffee shop a few blocks down the road and got some work done while they cleaned the car. When I came back, other than the car seat, you couldn’t tell that have a two year old. Yes, my car is old, but they shaved years off of it and it hasn’t felt this clean in a long time. They are a good value.

I had a Living Social voucher for the silver package (interior cleaning/​detailing). Called to schedule an appointment and they got me in the next day. As others have noted, it’s kind of a hole-​in-​the-​wall place, but they’re in the process of adding a waiting room and Peace Coffee is just a few blocks down the street. JoJo was friendly and kind enough to drop me off at the coffee shop and pick me up. Overall, they did a great job with the interior detailing. I have no complaints.

Groupon beware! Totally gross and dirty old mechanic «shop». You have to go to the restaurant across the street to wait. They didn’t wash the outside even though my Groupon was for inside and out. Weird grease all over all electronics and dash. Big chunks of missed dirt everywhere on floor. Basically this is a guy in a nasty shop with a vacuum. Friendly but very low quality. Stay far away!

We bought a groupon to get our car cleaned. The one thing I will say is that are car was pretty darn dirty and they did a decent job. The carpets in the car looked amazing but otherwise it ultimately wasn’t impressively clean.
The worst part though was I had to reschedule three times and ended up driving there three times before getting it done. The first time they said there was a scheduling mistake then the second time it was just oddly closed without reason and didn’t receive a phone call. Then when I finally got there on the third time they got the job done but the seats were still really wet and our car ended up with a musty smell for weeks. It was disappointing and we will not be buying a groupon or using their services again.

If there were a ⁰⁄₅ that’s what I would put. I am so beyond the point of angry and shocked all at the same time. I went to Top Gun yesterday as I had a Groupon to get it detailed. I pull up, the place is in dire need of a remodel, but sometimes the hole in the wall places do the best job so I continued on my downward spiral. They were already running behind and said they would call when done. So off to Target I went with my mom. I get a call almost 2 hours later saying it was done, and that the seats would be a bit wet and to leave my windows down. And they couldn’t do 100% in getting the hay out of the back of my car, that would be another $ 50. I said no. Thank goodness. I asked when they closed, he stated they were closed and I needed to get there ASAP. Guess we need to check out now.
I arrive back at the shop… I tip the guy unfortunately before inspecting the inside and pay the $ 5 tax which wasn’t mentioned in the Groupon or when I called to schedule. Which by the way, they never ever answer their phone. My seats are S-​O-​A-​K-​E-​D. Not «damp» as he had stated. I push my hand into a seat and no joke… I get a puddle of water. I had to lay my jacket on the seat, and my pants were wet by the time I got home. My back seats, even worse. The fabric on the door by the electrical was soaked and there was standing water inside the cubby. I took it to my mechanic afterwards as I feared for the electrical. He took a look inside the door and it was dry. If it wasn’t I would have been calling for an attorney. The dash is so covered in the crap cleaner they used I can’t even see the numbers. Every piece of plastic/​vinyl is covered in a greasy substance.
It’s now the next day and I have daylight to see the other disasters they caused to my car. The fabric on my console has been pulled up on one side. My phone charger no longer works, most likely because they didn’t bother to take it out before using a POWER WASHER to clean the inside of the car. Yes, that’s right, a power washer. Not a shampooer, a power washer. We have pictures to prove it. I could not believe my eyes! No wonder my seats are still soaked.
I called Lori, still no answer. Still not a surprise. I am going to demand a refund. Even if not for the crap job they did on my car, but at least for my phone charger that I’ll have to pay $ 30 to replace on top of the $ 100 I’ll probably have to pay someone else to have my car re-​detailed and dried out before my seats get moldy. My mechanic suggested Perfect 10 which now looking at their website states it will be done in 30 minutes not 2 hours and no appointment needed. Perhaps they could give some tips to Top Gun.
Top Gun Auto in Minneapolis is a joke. Don’t go unless you want to pay to have your car in worse shape than when you brought it in.

Do not let them touch your car!!! Got the silver interior package with a groupon and the interior was not cleaned. There were still stains on the seat, and even a new stain from dried shampoo or something I am not sure all I know is there were a NEW stain when I went to pick up my car. The door jams were not cleaned, the windshield was foggy the windows were foggy, HORRIBLE WORK. JoJo also upsold me when I dropped off my car for some detailing on the exterior for some little dings and scratches I had. I agreed to pay him $ 125 because he said he would make them disappear. Instead, he used mismatched paint and it looked way worse than before!!! I didn’t pay the $ 125 and have contacted the atty general. Do not let bring your car here no matter what you will regret it!

HELL NO! I purchased a Groupon, made an appointment for 8am on 9÷18÷15 and arrived promptly at 8:00.. . and waited.. . and waited.. . and waited. NO ONE from Top Gun showed up for the 20 minutes that I waited. I placed a call to them but surprise surprise, their voice mail was full and I couldn’t leave a message. I could leave a call back number but amazingly, no one has called me back in the past two days. Luckily, Geoupon canceled my voucher and refunded me the money on the spot because at this point, they will never get my business, nor should they get yours.

Make sure you don’t have any valuables in the car! Also don’t expect the inside of the windows clean. And above all don’t expect them to care! They get angry if you complain and if you want your stuff back they will tell you it’s in the trunk!
Not a good deal even with a groupon.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE JOB. I feel completely ripped off. They are completely unprofessional, did a horrible job, didn’t even touch parts of the interior (and I had purchased the top package), and didn’t even bother to vacuum the floor in the back seat. They couldn’t even clean the interior glass on the windshield. Owner is trash and a thief!!! I should have listened to my gut — as soon as I walked in I got a really bad vibe. Please Karma — catch up with this loser!

Absolutely disgusting place. Owner is a cheat. He’ll convince you to get exterior work done and does an absolute horrible job at that. Lesson learned. Never going back there again!!!

This business is so bad it’s straight up comical. I see «red flags» everywhere. I would rather get a colonoscopy or go through childbirth than deal with this company.
My first appointment was cancelled by Lori, the scheduler because the building was having electricity issues– we rescheduled. The 2^nd appointment I took off work early for and when I arrived, I was told at the Minnehaha location (temporary as Dight Ave building was having issues) that there was no record that I made an appointment. So I rescheduled for a Saturday so I didn’t have to take off work.
Then — I realized I was out of town that Saturday so I called the next day to reschedule. I called again and left messages about 5 – 6 times and never got a call back. Groupon refunded my $.
Just so you know:
The business phone number will never be answered. Lori would call me back and we played phone tag 50+ times. She will not confirm an appointment unless she gets you on the phone (which she does not answer). When you speak on the phone and do confirm an appointment — in my personal experience the person at the location doesn’t know that you have an appointment.
I will gladly go and pay $ 150 for a car detail job. Or get a colonoscopy. Anything besides dealing with Top Gun Auto ever again.

What a weird experience. I purchased a groupon for the silver detailing package. I did not have the same problems as previous reviewers with scheduling, I was able to reach someone and schedule as soon as I wanted to.
However, when I pulled up to their Minneapolis location I was surprised. They told me that it would take about 2 hours to complete. There is no office to sit in, so I walked to the nearby Target. I returned back to the shop 2 hours later and they told me that they hadn’t even started detailing my car yet (at 5:30 pm…). They then said that they would be able to complete it in about 45 minutes. What they left out to cut the time that drastically, I’ll never know.
Someone drove me to a nearby coffee shop, where I sat for another 45 minutes or so. They came and picked me up when they were done.
The job was not up to par. There are huge smudges on the inside of my windshield and the cup holders had standing water in them. The upholstery was very damp, which I would expect after only a 45 minute job, but it smelled like mildew even after I followed the instructions of keeping the windows open. They did rinse my car off and supposedly wax it for my patience, but it looks like it was probably a quick spritz with a hose.
I would not return to this location. Save your money and use it toward a detailing job through a business with good customer service.

Do not waste your money — totally not worth it, even if for half price through one of their Groupons, Crowd Cuts or the like.
These guys SUCK!
They overbook. You can’t get an appt. Once you get an appt, they don’t hold true to it. We had a 3 month wait to get the cars cleaned. Once we finally got an appt, my husband took a day off of work to drive the 45 minutes to get to the place — and they were closed b/​c of the weather. The weather was normal — not different than usual. They did not call to tell us they were closed.
Anyway — they absolutely suck. I had my car washed there, and like another person on here, they left my floors totally soaking wet, where my car smelled musty and got moldy carpeting as a result. The car was in better condition prior to their work.
I would not waste a penny on these CROOKS!

WORST BUSINESS EVER! JoJo… don’t you read these reviews!!!
Where do I start? I made an appointment… left work early to get there and they were closed. I called several different numbers and nobody answered… left a message… nobody ever called me back. Waited a couple weeks… called again… this time, the owner JoJo called me back and took another appt. He coordinated this appt. with a day he said he would be there to meet me. I never got a good explanation on why nobody was there for my first one or why nobody ever called me back.
Showed up for the next appt., JoJo was nowhere… The detail job was actually pretty good, despite missing some dirty finger prints on the interior roof that my mechanic had left, and the guy who did the job was very nice.
As soon as I left, I realized they had removed my phone charger and not replaced it. I called several times over the next few days and NEVER heard back from anyone. I guess they are keeping that. I was actually hoping to get my other car in for a detail job and had gotten an estimate for some body work to be done… so I guess that’s not going to happen either.
If I had read the reviews on Unilocal,there is no way I would have picked this place… but I’ve learned a very good lesson!!!

I purchased a Groupon for an exterior wash, interior detailing, and exterior 3M sealant. I booked an appointment for 8:00am with «Lori» and was told that the work would take 90 minutes. I arrived at Top Gun at about 7:50am the day of the appointment and proceeded to wait (along with another customer) for someone to open the shop. Jojo arrived at about 8:25am, but he couldn’t open up the shop because he had forgotten his keys. Without apologizing for being late, Jojo quickly looked over the exterior of my car and tried to sell me another $ 100 worth of work. I explained to Jojo that I only wanted the service I had scheduled, and that I needed to leave by 9:30am. Someone arrived about 10 minutes later with the keys to the shop, and Jojo offered to drop me off at a nearby coffee shop (as the detail shop doesn’t have a waiting area unless you count the dirty plastic chair next to a pile of garbage), but I declined and asked that he instead start work on my car immediately because I needed my car back by 9:30am.
I walked to a nearby coffee shop, enjoyed a nice mocha from Peace Coffee, and returned to Top Gun at 9:25am. I walked into the shop, noticed my car was tandem-​parked in front of another customer’s, caught Jojo’s attention, and again reminded him that I needed to leave at 9:30am. He said to me, «Oh, there’s no way. This is at least a 4 hours job because you have dog hair in there.» I told him again that I needed to leave in a few minutes, and he returned to vacuuming water off the floor of my car. At 9:32am I had to yell to get his attention, and I again told Jojo that I needed to leave. He then started to argue with me, saying that it was my fault the job wasn’t done because I hadn’t mentioned the dog hair when booking the appointment. I pointed out that Lori hadn’t asked me about dog hair and that it wasn’t mentioned in the Groupon ad. I reminded Jojo that he wouldn’t be so behind if he hadn’t started the job over 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Again, no apology at this point for anything.
I was finally able to get my car pulled out of the garage, and I was given a disposable floor mat to sit on because the upholstery was still soaking wet. The interior of the car was actually in worse shape than it had been when I brought it in because all the surfaces had been saturated with water and/​or cleaning solutions, but it had been left to air dry because the car was far from ready. The sealant was not applied at all. The exterior of the car was washed, but that hardly seemed adequate given the $ 50 fee I’d already paid.
Jojo finally apologized as I was leaving and instructed Lori (over the phone) to call me back to schedule another appointment. I’m selling the car tomorrow (which is why I was having it detailed), so the offer doesn’t help me at all. It may not have mattered, because by 3:30pm Lori had still not called me to reschedule. Instead I called Lori and left a message to let her know that I won’t be returning.
I paid $ 50 for an adequate exterior car wash, and got nothing else but frustration and wet upholstery. I will never be going to Top Gun again, and I will advise anyone I know looking for detailing to go elsewhere.

Yeah honestly, take your money else where. Even with groupon you don’t quite get what you pay for. If you’ve already bought it and scheduled, just allow time to check over your vehicle to ensure they didn’t skip anything.(Burnsville location)

If I could write a ZERO-​star review, I would. Here is how my experience went {unfortunately I scheduled before reading the remainder of the reviews}. Here is how it went:
1. I showed up at the Excelsior/​Shorewood location at 7:55. My appointment was at 8:00. It had been scheduled with JoJo via phone. He called that location to ensure they could get me in, and called me back to confirm earlier this week.
2. There was no sign, no dropbox for keys, no indication that this was even a business.
3. Another car was waiting as well — no one was there to help us. At about 8:15, I went into the autoshop next door {run by the sweetest people} and asked them if they knew anything about this business. I was NOT about to leave my keys in the vehicle and leave to get to work {I’d informed JoJo that I was dropping off, not waiting} at some place that didn’t even appear to be in business. It was clearly shady from the start…
4. The nice people at the auto shop let me leave my keys there. They also got me in for an oil change {at my request} while we were waiting. I left my contact info with them.
5. The other car that was waiting had called every number they could find for Top Gun, including JoJo’s number, with no answer {multiple times}. Finally they reached JoJo at 8:20, and he instructed them to leave their keys, their tech had broken down on the way to work.
6. I called JoJo and asked what was going on. He told me the same thing about the breakdown, and I questioned why no one had called to let me know {versus us having to track him down}. He said his manager was supposed to — I never did get that call.
7. At this point I started to Google reviews — and found they’ve had their BBB accreditation revoked in MN due to complaints… yikes.
8. I left my car, and went to work. A guy named Alex called me around 10:30, he had just gotten to work and wanted to know when I was picking up my car. JoJo had confirmed someone would be there until 5pm. I told Alex it would be before 5 pm — he said «see you at 5.» And I clarified it would be closer to 4, but definitely before they closed {my appointment was at 8 am…} He agreed. He mentioned they were swamped because he was late, and the other guy no-​call, no-​showed to work, so he was the only one there.
9. Some lady named Rhonda called me to ask if I had an appointment today. WHAT?! Are you kiddding me? This was the last straw. Apparently Alex never made it to work, he was really sick. Some guy named DeShaun was there. She was shocked to hear that I’d already talked to Alex. She said they wouldn’t be able to get to my car today — I HAD THE FIRST APPOINTMENT OF THE DAY! WHAT THEY HELL HAVE THEY BEEN DOING ALL DAY??? I told her not to touch my car, that I would be there to pick it up, and there better be someone there to give me my keys.
After reading all of the review {Yelp and elsewhere} I am beyond repulsed by the way this company runs. I called JoJo — and finally got the first apology of the day — AFTER I told him I was reporting him to Groupon and leaving reviews wherever I could. Apparently, this is very «low» of me {his words}.

Hate to say, «I told you so, but I told you so.» is all that goes through my head. I read the reviews before purchasing a Groupon and still did it anyway. Well, lesson learned.
I bought a Groupon with the hopes of getting my car detailed with little to no expectations. A bunch of the reviews stated they had a hard time booking an appointment and I thought, they must be short staffed or busy or whatever. Well, I had the same issue too and after over 8 weeks of trying to get a hold of «Jo-​Jo» I gave up and got a refund.
This business is in dire need of a receptionist or someone that can organize their schedules. Calling Jo-​Jo and having him answer as he is in the middle of countless other business related happenings is not an effective way to run a business based on appointments.
No clue how they are able to handle more than one location.
Skip the headache of trying to book something at this place and try another spot. Plain & simple.

Very happy with their work. I had years of salt encrusted in the carpet of my car and they got it all out. Very cordial and friendly staff. Plus, I prefer to support a small, local company.
Thanks Top Gun, I will be back.
