Our Staff is great at Deep Tissue (Neuromuscular) Massage. We have very strong therapists who combine their knowledge of anatomy with experience for incredible results. We are invested in helping our clients feel better and live a healthy, preventative approach to BetterHealth. We will take the time to show you stretches and exercises that you can use to increase the effects of your massage and start to make some permanent changes. We promise to go the extra mile and never leave you feeling like you don’t have someone to help support your BetterHealth lifestyle.

We also have some incredible options to help you relax like: Hot Towel Massages, Hot Rocks and The Foot Spa which is a great opportunity for you/​and your friends to pamper your feet and slip into relaxation.

History

Established in 2003.

David Wicklund opened The Doorway for Massage Therapy, Bodywork & BetterHealth to offer people a quality service that did not seem available, with a focus on compassion, anatomy and customer service. After growing his clientele, he opened a second location in downtown Minneapolis in the lower level of the Open Book Building at 1011 Washington Ave S 55 415. Now each location has multiple therapists and takes appointments 7 days a week.

David attended CenterPoint School of Massage Therapy and the International Academy of Neuromuscular Studies and has been practicing massage for 10 years. With a passion for anatomy, strong hands, the ability to find and eliminate tension plus a caring approach to therapy David you will have you in better shape and helping yourself get better. OR just help you relax and unwind in a quiet place where you can escape from the stresses that life brings.

I like the «high quality, medium frills» comment that another person made. I also first came on a coupon.
I love it here, and I have had only wildly beneficial massages with Elaine. Not only does she help fix the problem but she helps you learn how to keep the problem fixed once you walk out the door. I always learn a lot, and the environment is super comfortable.

I found the Doorway thanks to Unilocal,even though it was tucked around the corner from my kid’s former high school!
My massage therapist not only gave a wonderful massage, but did a great job explaining what to expect and finding out what I really needed since this was my first visit. She continued to check in with me as we went on but the pressure was already exactly right. I left feeling totally relaxed, almost ready to go back to bed, but was able to carry on with my day in much less tense fashion; for instance, did not find myself yelling at other drivers so much !
I also find I’m breathing easier today and I’m sure the aromatherapy factored into helping that. I had not even mentioned my sinuses as a trouble area at first, I have just lived with a certain amount of stuffiness in the winter, but now they are clearing out.
I’ll be back as my budget allows, and the reasonable prices will make that more likely to be soon.

Unfortunately I just found out about this massage location right before I pack and leave MPLS. But as they say, better late than never! David has the magical touch! I’ve been feeling very stiff and tense from long hours in front of the computer so I asked him to focus on the shoulders. Lo and behold, a new me was born when I walked out of the North MPLS location. He even taught me some stretch exercises to do frequently to help prevent such tensed muscles! I HIGHLY recommend the Doorway. You also have the option of sampling and purchasing from a variety of oils to help soothe you into wonderful heaven! Yes I was in la la land during the whole process and wish it could last forever! I hope to sneak one more visit before leaving but if I am not able to, I now know where to go get a relaxing massage when I am back in MPLS.

The downtown location is a little difficult to find. It’s tucked inside a building that houses many different businesses, and so I ended up walking around the building several times trying to locate «the doorway.» After one loop around the building in my car and two and half loops on foot, I decided to pick an entrance because I knew from the GPS on my phone that it was in there somewhere. When I asked around I was led down a few hallways to the room where my massage would take place. This is probably the only negative thing I can say about the place. The space was very relaxing, and my masseuse (Emily) did a tremendous job. I told her up front that I am a total wimp when it comes to massages, and she took it easy on me, pressure wise. I would highly recommend this place.

No more bargain-​hopping for me, going from CMT to CMT depending on where I have a coupon. After two visits, The Doorway is the place!
I’d like to specifically give accolades to Emily. Her technique was strong and smart. I felt very connected with her hands during my massage; it was clear that she was learning about my body and adjusting her treatment accordingly. I look forward to seeing her again.

This high quality, medium frills, dual location place is one that I was introduced with via a groupon. That was about a year ago and I come back monthly now. They do right by the customer, have high quality therapists, and offer aromatherapy to your liking with the massage. Pretty wide variety of styles… I won’t mention my favorite because I want to be able to continue to book her! (PS They are all very good)
Note — I’ve not been to the downtown location, this review is for the North Minneapolis location, which is kitty corner from Victory 44.

I’ve experienced massages from 2 different people here. Maggie was nice, but overly talkative and didn’t get the hint that I wanted to relax and have a quiet experience. I can’t remember the guy’s name, but he did a great job, although again I had to strongly hint I wasn’t in a chatty mood. My only suggestion would be to feel out the client’s mood more before starting because if I didn’t have gift certificates for here, I probably wouldn’t go back because of this.

I like to play hard! Some times that comes with physical affects on my body. To relieve myself from physical soreness, stress or just to pamper I go straight to «Doorway Massage». I have never had a more educated, relaxing and fulfill massage as I have here. Truly, this artists love what they do and it shows. If you need a massage you need to go here!

I decided at the last minute I needed and deserved a massage and was able to get in to see Brandon. Lucky, lucky me! I’ve had neck and back pain for the last few months and after just this one session, I feel better than I have in a LONG time! Dudes don’t get massages. Right?
I was VERY reluctant to go see a massage therapist when recommended to do so after I had some serious problems with my IT band while training for a marathon, because… well… dudes don’t get massages (especially from another dude) unless they’re, you know, on vacation in Puerto Vallarta or something.
I still ask David Wicklund not to tell anyone that I am now a regular customer making covert referrals to him left and right, but the truth is that he is excellent. The Doorway is a relaxing and comfortable place, the service is very professional and reasonably priced, and David has done a ton to get me back in running form through deep tissue massage and at-​home therapy «homework» (much more than I can say for the physical «therapist» I’ve seen).
I’ve probably been in to see David at least ten times now. Highly, highly recommended!
UPDATE: In my most recent marathon training program I developed some serious calf strain/​soreness/​fatigue issues that lingered for about a month. One visit to The Doorway… GONE. Incredible. David Wicklund is a miracle worker. The Doorway remains my marathon training pit crew.
