Tasty wings with good HoJos and nice choices for sauces for the freshly made wings, but is now CLOSED according to the website. Check out Seafood To Go on Chicago as a potential replacement.

Best wings in the twin cities hands down I am always looking for better wings but have yet to find them and the hojos are great too. My only real complaint is that they are not consistent with their hours and the service is rarely friendly. Also I wish they still sold ribs.

On St Pat’s I needed to order up a mess of wings for a party. Being that it was on a Thursday, I was able to take advantage of the daily special. 12 dozen wings later I was in heaven. They were hot, crunchy… well in short, just damn great. Add some blue cheese and hot dipping sauces and it was frickin incredible. Once again, Shorty and Wags came though big time.

Though there’s a counter with stools, this really is a take out place. Things other than the wings are hit or miss, but the wings are awesome. Greasy, crispy, salty, really delicious. If you’re looking for buffalo wings you may be disappointed. These are entire wings, not wing pieces, and they are fried chicken rather than chicken tossed in buffalo sauce. There are a variety of sauce options, but I think that just standard hot sauce is great. The spices are really so good that the wings don’t need to be slathered in sauce.(if you like fried chicken with honey, these wings are great with a little bit of honey or honey and hot sauce. The salty, crispy wings contrast well with the sweetness of honey.) You’ll probably feel disgusting after eating way too many of these wings and vow to never eat anything but salad for the rest of your life, but pretty soon you’ll start craving these wings and be back for more. EDIT: as of November 2011, Shorty & Wags is no more. Sadly, there is a sign on the door saying that in 2012 they will be opening in Longview MN.

Best wings ever! Unique flavor… can’t even describe them, but with the variety of dipping sauces, there is something for everyone. Don’t forget the fried mac n’ cheese bites and the apple cobbler. It’s just a corner shop, not where you would expect to get the best wings, but trust me… they are there!

I was surprised that the wings are the dry rub type. Definitely made for all the dipping sauces they offer. I tried the blue cheese and the green one, I thought was green goddess, but hotter than hell. Basil loved them plain. The only dessert they offer is banana cake, and basically I ordered it because it was there. I was a little curious because that’s what my rotten bananas turn into. It was very solid and very good. Curiosity has been satisfied.

Wings are what this place is all about, IMO. If I go there, I go to get a bunch of wings for takeout. And they’re crispy and greasy and good. It is not health food, it is soul food. Great late-night studying food as long as you don’t get grease on your books!

I really really love these wings. Best wings I’ve ever had by far. Not to mention the Hojos are so good too! I brag about this place all the time to my friends in NY. They are delicious and nothing that I’ve had at other places has yet to compare to these wings. Come on Tuesday or Thursday when they have their specials– 12 wings for half price or 24 wings for half price. Well worth the price. A must have, if visiting the city of Minneapolis.

Wings glorious wings. That is what I dream of. If you want ambiance … if you want a place to gnaw your wings and schmooze … if you can only eat with flatware … if you want a place to tinkle … if you want haute cuisine then do not even think of shorty and wags. Seriously — this place is all about the soul food. catfish, greens, okra, red beans and rice… and more. oh, wings. they have those wings. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Yah, so if you want wings you will never find anywhere else. This is the spot on the map. Like Nate wrote they give you a whole wing. More importantly it is just the wing, not a wing with nasty thick breading or one that died a slow death in some blechy sauce, but an oh, so wonderfully crispy on the outside and juicy and decadent on the inside wing, a three-part, fully articulating, cooked soes the parts separate easily as you devour the wonder from each part. There are those of us who will fight to the death over the turkey skin at Thanksgiving and these wings help keep us from withdrawal during the rest of the year. Wait, and the spicy coating of herbs on the wings. I have no idea how they get that spice to cling, but mmm mmm mmmm mmm mmm mmm. It is torture to wait until your order is ready and you tear @ss to the car to pull that first wing out and don’t even use sauce cuz you just needed that wing. Why Lord, Why do I have to live so far away? I miss my son’s rugby practice and the reason to stop for wings because it was«on the way home.» Yes, there are other foods there, but I can’t really say much about them as I live for the wings. And, the sauces Honey Mustard, Sweet & Sour, Hot Buffalo, Honey BBQ, Bleu Cheese, Hot Vinegar, Spicy BBQ, Ranch, Jalapeño-Ranch. My favorite is the sweet and sour. it is not an oriental sweet and sour, but more like an apply pie filling sweet and sour. A nice contrast to the spice on the wings. I have been going to Shorty and Wags for years and years and have never seen mold so I wonder about that. Just some cooking grease here and there. Tuesday and Thursday are the premo days for wings as they have a hefty discount on those days. So go on and give them a try. Just remember to put in an extra hour of exercise or run a few marathons to make up for it. You know you want to go. You will not be sorry.

I heard so much hype about this place and loving wings I had to try it. The whole time I wanted it to be a magical place, but the wings were only so-so. The thing that pushed me over the top to never come back was when I saw the bleu cheese they were selling in a glass case by the cash register was covered in black mold. I almost vomited. Won’t be back again.

So everything is deep friend– the wings, the cheese curds, and they’ve even got deep fried pickles. I don’t eat here often because I want to live along time, but it’s sure delicious food when I do. Best wings around.

This rating is based on the wings(since that is all that I ever had from Shorty & Wags). They get high marks for size and flavor, but they lose a star for not having honey mustard dipping sauce. So if your ever in the neighborhood stop by and try the wings and ask for honey mustard sauce I would appreciate it(maybe if enough people ask for it they’ll start serving it).

I just went in today for some catfish and wangs and was blown away by wickedly good seasoning, a variety of sauces and sensible portions. The catfish is crispy and tasty, the wings are so good you could almost eat them without sauce. But there are almost as many sauce choices as there are side item choices. I was surprised to see greens on the options for side items… and they were actually really good. The last guy who wrote a review… that was back in 2006. This place is a dive, yes I agree, but it’s clean now. The staff is friendly and direct and you don’t have to wait too long for your order. Oh and my wife didn’t leave me for going in here…

REMEMBERWHENWINGSMEANTALLTHREEPARTS? Even today I have never understood calling a third of a wing a «wing» — its a section. What kind of deformed chicken runs around with a third of a wing? But i guess Buffalo«sections» wouldn’t sell… I digress. Okay, so there is a place in Minneapolis where wings still mean wings and they are great — spicy, different variations and inexpensive. sound good? Here’s the reality — this is a place where you cannot take your girlfriend, your friends, your siblings or anyone who you care about what they think of you. Don’t be fooled your girlfriend will leave you, your friends will look at you funny and your family will probably disown you for going to such a sketchy place(it almost sounds like a country song). This is the kind of place they talk about in Cheers(Norm’s secret place). This is the kind of sketchy place where you go «ALONE» because no one else would understand. That said, they do have the best wings and BBQ in town. Shorty’s is a small family owned, secret blend of herbs and spices, countertop restaurant that is open super late and has grease everywhere — i can even remember my shoes smacking with it when i left the place a few times — but i was also very happy(so it’s a trade off). If you love wings go there! If you love your family and friends leave them home.
