I tried the gryo dinner, and I honestly was disappointed, was not worth my money, first off it wasn’t put to together, meaning the meat was not in the pita there was a layer of fries then meat, then the pita on top, I didn’t plan on having to assemble my meal! Secondly the meat was hard and burned! But there was a lot if meat, it filled my pita and still had meat. Will never buy another gyro from here again, will stick to the chicken!

Stopped for the first time today. Food was awesome! I ordered the shrimp and wings basket, which also came with fries, toast, cole slaw, and a soft drink for under $ 10. The portions were huge, I had leftovers to take home! There was a little bit of a wait, food is cooked after ordered. No burgers and fries sitting under the warming lamp like most places. So when your food arrives it is HOT! Nice menu with good selection of fish, chicken, sides, and desserts.

I used to order from this place all the time. It has sadly gone down hill. Our order wasn’t quite right but right enough where I didn’t want to wait another hour for them to correct it. Everything was cold and the wings that uses to taste so good were soggy and flavorless.

I pass this place over and over, finally I decided to stop in. I ordered the fish&chicken wings w/fries, beans & rice and peach cobbler for takeout. The food was really hot, that it melted my plastic carrier, but I survived. The food was crispy and really good. So good, I ordered some for delivery and what a mistake that was. They didn’t hear all of my order and forget one of my desserts. I called in but of course, the driver was on his way back… a no show. I will definitely order more food from them, but I will go in and pick mine up. The first time, staff/manager was very nice and pleasant. But it seems that making mistakes from deliveries are not that important to the customer. Also, my driver was high as hell… made me want buy some grass!

In a seemingly desperate attempt to destroy my GI tract, I’ve apparently decided to try some of the sketchiest places in Minneapolis. This will be my 3rd foray into«Mom and Pop» style fry places. The other two did not end that well. From A&J Fish and Chicken I placed an order for delivery. I ordered 20 hot wings, a side of fries, and some coleslaw. 20 wings is a large quantity for a man of my stature, and I ate a respectable 8 of those 20. And some fries. The wings were surprisingly good. Hot, clearly fresh from the fryer, and tasty. The sauce leaves a little bit to be desired, but at 10 dollars for 20 I’m not going to complain a ton. It was still pretty good. The fries were unseasoned and I think unsalted. Crisp and not particularly greasy, these seemed like a great value and added some much needed starch to my wing overboarding. I did use my own ketchup. The coleslaw was fine, but it was literally 2 bites in a cup. Like, two forkfulls. I don’t know how much it costs. Overall, if you have a hankering for some cheap fried stuff delivered to your doorstep, this is hard to pass up. I can see myself getting day drunk and continuing to buy this because it’s cheap, plentiful, and somewhat tasty. The takeaway here is if you want cheap fried stuff, this is it.

I order chicken from this place every week and it is always crispy and juicy. French fries are yummy and not overly greasy like other places. Dinners come with fries, a very tiny coleslaw(wish it was bigger serving as it’s awesome) and 2 slices of bread(really should be a slice of thick texas toast). Fast friendly delivery makes this place a favorite place of mine when I don’t feel like cooking.

This is my go-to place for fried food. Everything I’ve ordered has been tasty, hot and crispy. I’ve only ever ordered delivery, so I have no insight as to the experience of the store front. The person taking my order has occasionally been abrupt, but I LIKE that-he’s getting business done, and if they’re out of an item he states that and moves on, he doesn’t whimper at your feet. I’ve had a couple problems– like a delivery taking longer than stated, or ordering a two-liter or 7-up and accidentally getting Diet 7-up. All in all the food is amazing and the staff are just trying to provide amazing food. I’m a fan.

When you leave A&J’s your clothes smell like frying oil. It’s Epic. Try the Cheesesteak; best I’ve found in the cities.

I used to order the shrimp and chicken combo as part of a group order at work. One day I stopped in before work to get a takeout order, and saw the guy behind the counter simultaneously smoking, handling money and packing food. Having worked in restaurants both clean and questionable myself, I figured that was just part of the experience when you pay $ 8 for a feast of deep-fried goodness. However lately, it’s not so good. The last time I ordered my beloved combo, the shrimp tasted like bleach. This time I ordered the catfish nuggets — enough to feed a family of four. I tried two nuggets, ate the fries and threw the rest away. The nuggets had a disgusting spongy texture — hard on the outside and complete mush inside, with a slightly«fishy» aura. It made a filet-o-fish seem like fine dining. And the thimbleful of coleslaw was warm and brown. Never again.

I got an order of chicken livers and they were nice and hot and pretty good but a little under seasoned. The order came with a tiny container of cole slaw and some limp unsalted fries. The guy behind the counter was friendly and the order was ready when I arrived early. Chicken livers are hard to find — especially in MN so I give them 4 stars over 3. The place was fairly busy and clean — the neighborhood was OK for an inner city neighborhood. All in all a decent value.

I really like this place. Their staff is very friendly and wants to make sure your experience is great. We love the Jalapeño poppers and branched out a little and ordered the steak, chicken, and rice. I have to admit I was impressed. The Philly is what you expect, nothing extraordinary, but good. All in all very affordable food, and large servings, so when you see reviews about large portions, believe me they are.

If you are craving fried food, and copious amounts of it, hit up A&J. For about $ 30 total, a group of friends and I got enough food to feed a family of 8, no joke. The four of us had a downright feast for less than $ 10 each. The good: –Fried chicken wings: the breading is light, crispy, and delicious, and the chicken itself is very flavorful all the way through. –French fries with cheese sauce and lamb chunks: sweet lord, why did this taste so good? I don’t remember the last time I’ve had any type of cheese smothered fries, but these are good and the chunks of lamb in there make them great. –Really friendly service, willing to work with menu combos to get us the items we wanted. The mediocre: –Jumbo shrimp: a little bit too much soft, thick breading. I like a lighter crispier breading and not quite this much. –Fried catfish: again, a little too much breading, but still not horrible. The bad: –slices of wonderbread? orrrr something? Not toasted, just… bread. No thank you? –Tiny mini cup of coleslaw. One bite per cup. A&J is just about the polar opposite of a healthy balanced meal, but hey, sometimes you just need an entire to-go box of fried goodness.(and cheese sauce)

This little shack on lake street specializes in fried chicken and fish. I’ve had the chicken wings and catfish here. Well both are as bland as can be. The wings and fish crave some seasoning. The fries have the texture of wet cardboard and taste like it too. They also serve up an order of fish or chicken with a sad piece of white bread and a little tiny cup of coleslaw. I would only go here if your seriously craving something deep fried and greasy. Although you could just go to Seafood to Go on chicago or better yet go to the Hickory Hut in St Paul. The food here just isn’t up to par with the other options in the twin cities but if your seriously drunk or stoned this place will get it done.

This place tempted me for months while trips to and from my doctor took me down Lake Street. Finally, I had to give it a try after reading reviews. I ordered the Chicken Steak & Rice while my wife and daughter went for the fried chicken and catfish. My expectations for the Chicken Steak & Rice were high based on other reviews. It did not disappoint. Wow! The sauce was incredibly tasty and the dish includes generous portions of both steak and chicken with the rice. I have had it twice now and I can’t get enough; when I’m done, I feel like I could probably eat one or more additional servings even though I feel full. The fried chicken is about as good as we’ve had in the Twin Cities. Like any good fried chicken, it is tasty all the way through and does not rely excessively on the batter for flavor as the chicken itself is plenty tasty. Even though I’m usually full from my Chicken Steak & Rice, I gladly accept an extra piece of chicken from wife or daughter when offered. This is pretty much a no-frills place with just plain good food. There are a couple tables inside, but this is pretty much a take-out and delivery place. We have not tried to venture far from our core items on the menu because they are so good, but I suspect other items are probably just as tasty.

Chicken, steak & rice is simply mind-blowing and their chicken gizzards, perhaps the best in town. Great, conversational staff and the atmosphere although small, feels like your mother’s kitchen.

J & I stopped here after our roller excursion(see roller garden review). Let’s see… everything’s made fresh. We purchased the 8 piece chicken dinner with a side of hush puppies. Chicken was alright. I agree with the others reviews of the batter. It’s a nice light batter, but chicken itself was a bit dry. Hush puppies were good. Fries a tad soggy. The entire ride home I felt like we were driving home with a big box of grease. The car, our home and my clothes are going to have to air out for a good amount of time and the Febreze will be working overtime. Greas to the E… I might stop again if in the area, but don’t know that I would go out of my way to go back.

This place gets 5 stars because it reminds me of home(Chicago). It’s absolutely everything you think it’ll be. You can’t expect a gourmet meal, but it satisfies all things fried-ness.

This place was a let down, but it had so much potential. We tried a few different things to try and get a feel for the place and our favorite thing out of it all was the random slice of white bread they put in to soak up the grease. We had the chicken which didn’t have very much meat on the bones. I’m a slight wimp when it comes to eating meat off of the bone so this could just be me. We also tried some of the fried fish and it was under cooked. The parts that seemed to be cooked through were really good, I just wish I could have eaten the rest without worrying about getting sick later that night. And then we finished everything off with some jojos which were basically steak fries. They were good, but nothing worth going back for. I might give them a second chance another night, but it would kinda be a desperate choice.

I love this place. I love fried chicken. They have GREAT fried chicken. The outside of the chicken is always fried perfectly, and is light/fluffy and slightly crunchy. I went through a phase where I ordered fried chicken of some sorts everywhere I went. Whether it be an Applebee’s or a Vietnamese restaurant. Then I discovered one day that there are places that specialize in fried chicken. Oh the joy! The place is not in the best area, but I brave it and go buy chicken whenever I have a craving. I should just have them deliver…
