Great sandwiches with soft delicious bread. Very affordable:)
Super chill, clean and quiet. The service is great and the owner Sammy is friendly and personable.
It is a small space with a hipster feel to it. It is a breath of fresh air and very important place to have in our North Side Area.
I will def be a regular customer.

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I live in the neighborhood and it’s great to have a restaurant like this in the area. I’ve been a number of times and will definitely be back!

Just tried this place today for the first time and was greeted my Sammy himself. Had the roast chicken hoagie which was excellent. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

I’ve been here twice. Their sandwiches are really good; great value. However, the last time I was there I got half sandwich and cup of soup. My sandwich was hotter than my soup. I would classify this place as a dessert and coffee place. I went there for lunch with a group of 5 others and it was slow, acoustics made it very hard to hear my table mates, and tight fit for a group of 6 (I had to get up and move every time someone wanted to pass behind me to the coffee). They didn’t get my coworker’s order right, and when a different coworker asked that her soup be reheated (because it was served cold), he took it and returned it in a to go container and a bag. Guess he didn’t hear or understand what she asked for. My soup was also served cold.

The dark chai latte (regular chai latte w/​1 shot of espresso) is good. Next time I’ll try something sweet and a sandwich.

Sammy’s is a welcome little oasis on Broadway’s fast food drag. You can get fresh, affordable sandwiches, soup, salads, and coffee in a café that’s both stylish and friendly. You’ll often be greeted by Sammy personally, who is frequently sitting at the tables or behind the counter, chatting with patrons. I usually get a turkey club, but have also enjoyed the hot turkey melt, turkey bacon club (I thought clubs always had bacon, but apparently not), and chicken salad. There’s something special about the house sauce on their sandwiches I can’t put my finger on. The only drawback is that sometimes they can be quite slow, though the past few times I’ve been there it’s been okay. In conclusion, Avenue Eatery is a delicious little lunch spot, a hang out on your laptop spot, a meet a friend spot, a what’s-awesome-about-North-Minneapolis spot.

A very friendly hipster vibe here, everything is great but the food portions. Extremely small for the prices you pay. One of my sandwiches had literally 2 or 3 slices of sliced turkey. That’s just ridiculous for the price.

Good food, quality ingredients, personally love the hot chicken sandwich. I would give them 5 stars if the service was faster.

I’ve been here 2x. The first I was just popping in with a friend & didn’t get anything but everyone was super friendly and seemed like they all knew each other. I decided to stop in today for a quick treat and wow! The owner was there and super friendly. He said hi right away & welcomed me. I Ordered a chai latte & it’s honestly the best I have ever had. No jokes. Oh & the best part… they have almond milk! Yum. I give it 4 stars just because I gotta go back and try the food on their menu. But that won’t be a problem at all.

The food is absolutely delicious. Fairly priced, and made fresh to order.
The smoothies are also very good. They aren’t the largest for $ 4 a piece, but go very well with the food.
The staff is always kind. Normally it’s just one or two people, but they handle customer traffic well.
The atmosphere here is very personal. It’d make a great spot to catch up with somebody or have an intro date. Each time I’ve been here, people are working on their computers individually. I say this because I wouldn’t feel comfortable bringing a group here.
Definitely coming back here.

The selection is above and beyond what you would think. The healthy choices are a fresh and welcome option for the north side.

I recently started working in North and have found it is quite lacking in food options. Sometimes I’ll feel like traveling over to the Warehouse District, but not on this rainy day.
I saw this little café, nestled into the sometimes ghetto Broadway Ave. and knew I had to check it out. They are part coffeeshop, part sandwich shop. I got a coffee and a turkey pastrami, settled into a booth and read.
Delicious sandwich– I don’t even know how it was so good. The veggies were fresh, the hoagie style bun was super soft. Mmm. It just hit the spot. I saw they have a bakery case, but it was pretty limited. I’d come here for a quick coffee or one of their many sandwiches.
The place was quite, but busy– lots of people working on laptops or getting coffee with a friend. The service was «Meh», the teenage cashier had his headphones in one ear.weird. But damn, that sandwich though.

Sammy is a great owner. He is welcoming and very friendly. The menue is great. I always ask for recommendations. My favorite beverage is their dirty chai. No body does it like Sammy!!!

This sandwich shop is right down from my house! I fell in love at first bite… It’s the cutest little place and the staff was absolutely delightful! If your looking for an awesome sandwich or coffee/​smoothie/​or some free wifi in north minneapolis look no further :)

Look no further, the Veggie Club is delicious! Extremely fresh vegetables, pickles and cheese served on a yummy soft bread with house dressing. I requested my sandwich without mayo since I do not like mayo.
The staff are friendly. The prices are crazy affordable. Around $ 5 for a sandwich.
This eatery is a great asset to West Broadway Avenue and is helping restore the Northside one corner at a time.

This is a great place in North Minneapolis! The people who work here are super friendly and I love their selection of tea. Their cakes are also amazing as well! I’ve never had their sandwiches but they look huge and delicious!

My husband and I live closer to Downtown, but occasionally venture over this way and have passed Avenue Eatery. I’ve always been a little curious about it, so one day we decided we wanted a quick bite and found ourselves here.
It was a really good experience. The food was really really good. We both got sandwiches, and both were on this incredible fluffy, soft buns. It seemed like they were freshly made. I tend to migrate towards healthier food options, so I was a little hesitant when my sandwich came to the table with mayo oozing out all over the place. I decided to go with it and was glad I did. It was delicious! However, next time I go, I think I’ll ask for sauces on the side so it doesn’t have to be such a splurge to eat here (health-​wise that is — prices were really cheap. My husband and I both ate for about $ 10).
There was a younger kid working the till who seemed a little confused and flustered. I think he might have been a more recent hire, aside from a little difficulty stemming from this, our experience was really good.
Oh, also, try their mocha! Being a barista for almost 7 years (my husband was one for a few years as well), we are both particular about our coffee. We ordered a mocha, and to be honest, didn’t expect much of anything special. It was SO good! It was the perfect temperature, not too sweet, and the espresso was perfect. Even a while after stopping here, we mention needing to go back just to stop in for a mocha.

Beautiful little place with incredible service, great food, and a wonderful atmosphere. It’s off the beaten path, but if I lived here I would stop by almost every day.

I like the idea of this place and what it’s trying to do.
Stopped by with a couple co-​workers since we work only about a mile away. They have a few sandwich selections (by a few I mean: grilled cheese, club, BLT and that’s pretty much it). We were more looking for lunch so I was disappointed they didn’t have any fresh soups — that would be a good menu addition. Anywho, ate the Club sandwich which was okay and had an iced latte, which was great! They turned on some cool mood music as we ate, which made our experience more enjoyable.
I really hope this place gets busier and they can fine tune their offerings. I will definitely be back for coffee soon!

Although the word «eatery» is in the name, I couldn’t help but feel it seemed more coffee shop-​oriented, which I guess shouldn’t be too surprising since there was apparently one in the same spot previously. I only got some caffeine on my visit, no food. It’s a small, tidy space that’s a nice place to sit and have the colorful block of buildings on the opposite side of the street as your backdrop when you’re up front reading or on a laptop.

As a kid who grew up on the south side of Minneapolis, my feelings about the north side have always been negative. Parents, grandparents and friends constantly reenforced my fear about how terrible this part of Minneapolis was.
And then I went there.
Yes, there is crime over North. Yes, it looks a little different then the neighborhood where I live. But there are great little places like Avenue Eatery, where the manager is kind and welcoming, the coffee is magical and you can get healthy food, which is in short supply on this side of town.
It’s places like this that have the potential to change peoples feelings about North Minneapolis. Escape your preconceived notions and head down Broadway and grab a cup of coffee. The White Zombie, which is this crazy white espresso that you can’t find anywhere else in the Twin Cities, is the best coffee beverage in the Twin Cities, and it just tastes like sweet milk. Until you get the crazy rush of caffeine as you drink it. Magical, I tell you. Get it on ice, with a shot of caramel. Or on a chilly day it is great hot as well.
