I don’t know what I was thinking. FIVESTARSFORNORTH! I cannot say enough about the awesomeness of this library and its staff. Sure, I get annoyed with the crowd occasionally, but that’s true pretty much anywhere and I’ve found I would much rather deal with the mild problems of north vs the problems of fancier neighborhoods. North has a fabulous story hour, great selection of all types of books and movies, a truly beautiful building right on a bus line, a Nice Ride location, and plenty of parking. Do you know how rare it is for a librarian to be able to connect with both kids and adults? Do you know how rare it is for a librarian to be able to adapt quickly to an ever changing crowd? FIVESTARSNORTH.

We’ve been to story time with Ms. Kathy a dozen times, we drive from a different part of Mpls because it’s that good. She adapts the story time activities to fit whatever age of the kids that arrive that day, and to fit whatever the mood of the crowd(from quiet sitting on their hands to ravenous beasts out for blood). She remembers all the kids names and is genuinely interested in them. She also incorporates what she’s learned from recent research on literacy. She has even my 1 year old attempt writing her name on her name tag, because she says that early attempts at writing help kids develop writing skills later on. There’s books, songs, movement, and felt storyboards, and then either toys or art afterward. Usually Wednesdays 10:30.
