Ginger Hop Restaurant

Awful food, so so service.
I ordered fresh ginger chicken, basil beef, beef satay, sweet potato fries and phở, the only eatable thing is the beef satay and the fries. Ginger chicken only have about 6 pieces of chicken in it, so as the beef dish, worst phở I’ve ever had, the noodle is very hard, you will have a stomach ach after ate it. I would have them no stars if I could.

I’ve been to this place several times and it definitely deserves more than 3 stars. I have gotten the glazed salmon, red curry stir fry and the ginger stir fry — all of which were very good. Definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a new restaurant in the northeast area!
There is also nice outdoor seating, perfect for a warm summer night.

Came here for a Sunday lunch and the food was really good – especially the curry udon noodle bowl. Service was horrible, though. Several times, we had to track down our waiter through other wait staff.

One of the best happy hours in the twin cities.
I would recommend frequenting this place only during happy hour though. Otherwise, this place tends to a little pricey and at times, the service does leave a lot to be desired.
I’d give this place a solid 3.5.

Disappointing delivery from Bite Squad. Ordered two of the Bahn Mi sandwiches and spring rolls. The spring rolls had close to no shrimp and even less flavor. The sandwiches arrived dry, cold, and tasteless. Even the fries on the side were soggy and only warm. Compared to Bahn Mi just down Washington, this was a huge miss. Upset I even spent the money, it’s not cheap.

Can a great location, neat ambiance, and unified marketing theme elevate less than impressive food?
Located over the Hennepin bridge from downtown, this restaurant is at an ideal location for a post work happy hour, evening stroll, or night time chilling.
Upon entering the restaurant, you’ll see the maitre’d stand in front of a long bar area, with flat fans moving about in the ceiling (I fail to do that description justice). To the right is the more extensive dining area, with booths and larger tables for larger parties. I am not too sure if the place ever gets excessively packed, but it seems like a good place both for small and large groups without reservations. The lighting is slightly dimmed to give a little mood lighting, and the entire place screams modern with slight asian flairs.
The drink menu contains quite a few different cocktails, as well as an assortment of beers. The food menu contains the requisite apps and entrees. In terms of choices, they seem to be mostly thai influenced, with pineapple fried rice and pad thai noodle entrees, as well as banh-​mi sandwiches and other assorted things. I don’t recall if vegetarians would be happy, but it seems like there should be something for everybody to order.
The actual food itself is pretty simple. Flavors are adequate without being truly bold and exciting. I was satisfied without feeling enthralled.
All in all, food is decidedly A-​ok, and the ambiance is great.

Went with Bestie to Ginger Hop for «Dining Out for Life» on Thursday April 28. We were going to see from Grain to Glass at St. Anthony on Main, and wanted something close for walking! After spending time at Honey (in the sticky-​icky basement)… I wasn’t sure what to expect!
The ambience here is really relaxed and comfy! There is a dining room, and a bar, and a lounge-​type sitting area. Anything you need for a HH or a lovely dinner!
1. The HH drinks seemed unlikely inexpensive. Huh? watered down? NOPE! Got a Jamo-​Ginger and it was perfect. Beers/​wine were about 3.25 — 3.75. The HH food choices were also quite extensive and reasonable!
2. But — we were hungry for… saucy noodles! I asked our waitress for what kind of entrée fit that need. I got the yellow curry Udon Noodle bowl. Wow. Perfectly spicy, and plenty of shrimp! I wanted to eat it all, but decided leftovers would be amazing.
… and the Almond Chicken. Bestie was worried about «oyster» sauce tasting «fishy». Lovely waitress explained it’s more sweet, not fishy. She was dead on! It was delicious!
3. Last call for HH 6pm — why not get another Jameson and Ginger?
We will be back! It was a lovely experience.

Awful. I queried the waiter about the «French Baguette» in the Banh Mi description. He assured me it was authentic, good French bread, so I went ahead and ordered it. Ginger Hop’s «French Baguette» is actually a tasteless white bun so dry that it was surely day old or worse. The menu also promised jalapeño peppers in the Banh Mi, but there were none, so the sandwich was not only dry, but tasteless.
Ginger Hop should be ashamed of this misrepresentation by a waiter — and its terrible Banh Mi. I will not be back.

The service was great but the food was just average. The Asian pear salad got better as I continued to eat it, however the initial flavor was pretty «meh» because the pepper simply don’t compliment the other flavors. If you order it, order it without peppers or pick them out. The pad Thai was alright, a little sweet for my taste and I would recommend asking it to be made with spice or it will be overpoweringly sweet compared to a pad Thai you would get at a specialized Thai place. When it came out it was just warm, I could tell it had been sitting for awhile as the sauce had dried up a tad from sitting, so that didn’t impress me, especially since it wasn’t busy, but It wasn’t cold so I didn’t really mind. The restaurant itself is really aesthetically pleasing, and Dane is a really great server.

I just had the Vegetarian Pad Thai and the noodles are weirdly sticking together. The flavor is bland, nothing special. If it’s vegetarian, where is the veggies? I wouldn’t order again, I have had best from Skyway Wok.

The food was really good but the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. 3 out of 3 toilets were absolutely unsanitary with feces all over the bowls and some on the seat! Right after they had just opened for the day so you know the toilets weren’t cleaned from the night before. Very disappointing.
With bathrooms so dirty one wonders how the kitchen looks.

Had to leave the table to blow my nose a few times whilst eating the fire noodles. So flippin’ good. Plus the employees are pleasing to the eye.

Stopped by to grab some lunch with my co-​workers. It was empty so the service was prompt. I ordered the pad thai which was tasty. Very middle of the road place. I would go back for lunch.

Bartender as friendly as ever, and such great happy hour deals. Why don’t I come here more often?

Very good food! Great drink menu too. I look forward to going back. Many items on the menu, it was hard to decide.

The spring rolls weren’t rolled tightly so they fell apart and weren’t very good. That’s the only disappointment though!
My Tom Kha soup is the first one that M has shared equally with me, he usually finds them too sour for his liking, but this one was beautifully balanced and quite thick. They use oyster mushrooms instead of straw mushrooms, which is actually the traditional way of cooking Tom Kha (with oyster mushrooms).
They also very obviously simmered the mushrooms, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves together for hours, as the broth took on a beige coloring and a lovely consistency. M insists it is the best one yet and the best thing we ordered.
I had a bite of the pulled pork and a nibble of an Udon noodle and oh my gawwwwwd. I would never have thought that pulled pork and red curry (or any curry) would go together at all but wow. The smoky flavor of the pork was an interesting addition to the gorgeous coconut milk infused curry dish.
My Pad Thai was very traditional and very very good. They actually cooked the chicken separately, which was obvious from the crisp that the outside had just a touch of. No way you could achieve that kind of a cook on chicken simmered in noodles.
The presentation was beautiful and the flavors were phenomenal.
The ambience is unique and visually pleasing, but doesn’t feel pretentious. Tshirt and jeans is just fine.
I’m so excited for our next visit; their Happy Hour menu includes a wide range of appetizers and burgers, cocktails, beers, and more. Very impressive, especially on a Sunday evening when so few places in the Twin Cities offer any happy hour deals.
Lots of leftovers, $ 40something tab, not the cheapest but pretty well worth it.

I had the Thai Fried Rice and the Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp. The spring rolls were good but the fried rice was very bland. I ordered it with shrimp and I was happy with the amount of shrimp it had but disappointed with the overall flavor. I ended up adding hot sauce to it. I would say it’s not worth the price. These items may not be their specialty so I will be back to try something else on the menu.

One word: YUM! I decided to order some take out yesterday evening and wanted to give this place a try. I ordered fresh spring rolls that had a choice of either tofu or shrimp. I got the shrimp and receive two large spring rolls that were very fresh and came with a zesty peanut type sauce. I also ordered basic pad thai with fresh tofu (had the choice of fresh or fried tofu, chicken, pork, beef or shrimp) and it was delicious. I can’t really review the service or dining in experience since I ate at home but I would order from here again. Everything was fresh and tasted wonderful.

Stopped in late on a weeknight. The service left a lot to be desired, with the hostess on the phone not making any eye contact. We had pad thai and egg rolls. The food was ok not terrific not horrible, can’t say I’m running to go back.

Had bite squad deliver their food. Their panang curry once again was the bomb. They used pulled pork for the meat and its scrumptious! I really like their tum yum as well. Wish they had regular peanut sauce for their spring rolls though

I do not know how this place gets more than one star. I would rather have had food at Leeann Chin than to dine here again.
I have a DEEP love of Asian food. I mean, all of it, with a special affinity for Thai. I went for the Tom Yum soup and found that I got the worst version of this I’ve ever encountered. I didn’t finish it, as there was nothing worthwhile about it. I also got some sort of a spring roll. That, too, was a mistake. I found myself wishing that I’d not gone without food all day in order to eat here. As I said, I love Asian food and expected to eat my fill with pleasure.
Fortunately, the company with which I dined was phenomenal. That, I’ll do again.

Okay before you judge me for rating this place two stars, I would just like to say the décor is fantastic and late night weekend music is super fun but since this is a restaurant, I’m going to say I have had way better asian food and asian fusion food. I just do not understand how a restaurant so trendy with an innovative marketing plan can have food that is so below average… the calamari was over fried, the egg rolls seemed like they were fried from a frozen box, and the chicken wings were heavy on the oyster sauce. I think at one point I had the pad Thai and it was very bland. I expect an explosion of flavor in my mouth when I eat pad thai anywhere but this version fell flat and seemed a tad too sour.
If anything, just go for the happy hour so you can chill with friends in a cool environment without breaking the bank.
