I ordered the hot tuna melt and it comes cold with burnt bread. I ask if they can do anything to heat the tuna-I don’t even mention the burnt bread to Tony. He says no, that’s how it is.’ Ok, I let that go and ask someone else. Tony walks over, takes the sandwich, grunts and says I’ll take care of it. He takes to the kitchen and brings it back a few minutes later. It appears to be warm with melted cheese… but Tony still grumbling. I hope it is safe to eat? Maybe they should just say cold tuna sandwich?

Perhaps I came in at a bad time(30 min to close, around 6:30pm, as I was racing from one business meeting to the next…) No one else was in the restaurant and the folks working seemed interested in closing. The cold pasta salads were oily and not very tasty — which was surprising since I was quite hungry… Maybe I just got«end of day» food, since there were a couple of pieces of pasta that seemed undercooked and a bit hard. Cookies(chocolate PB and snickerdoodle) were dry, and nothing special.

After having eaten at other D’Amico locations, I was surprised at how different this one was from the rest. Margarita Pizza: Was thin crust, small, served on a plastic plate. Every other D’Amicos location I’ve been to has has very nice hand tossed pizza, served to your table on a dinner plate. The pizza was still good, but I’ve never had it this way before(at a D’Amicos). Gorgonzola Chicken Pasta(with fruit): Good. Better than I expected. They heaped it on a plastic plate, stuck a fork in it, and it felt like 4th grade lunch all over again. Zero plate presentation, giant portion. Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini: Delicious! A bit spicy for my taste, and the soup was served in a to-go cup(but we were eating in!). They offered me a couple small slices of french bread, which I really appreciated. The sausage has a bit of fennel in it, so if you like that– Try this soup! Very good. When we entered, they began to take my order, then sort of wandered off(away from me and my friend), and he had to walk over to them to order. Nothing seemed to have a particular order, so it was hard to order properly because we kept walking down the counter top to get the attention of the person handling our order. I understand other D’Amico locations are considered«quick service» restaurants, but this one served everything on plastic or paper, and the menu was much smaller than other locations. What gives? I hear they get busy during the lunch hour downtown. Maybe it’s in an effort to get everyone out quickly, which would be smart. Either way, if you’re looking for the«real» D’Amico and Sons experience, try one of their other locations. This one must be good for in-a-hurry lunches only.

I really like the food at most of the D’Amico’s location, but this place lacked the charm of most of the locations I’ve been to. The service was also a bit slow, though everyone was generally friendly. I’d come back for take out, but probably not for a dine in experience.

Ate here 2 times on a trip to MPLS – when i got to the hotel was starving – went out for a walk and saw the place – I had heard of D’amico and thought it had a good reputation. Had the trio salad plate – overpriced and sloppy. The next day, i was leaving town. Before I got on the Metro to MSP I bought a turkey sandwich to eat on the plane – cetrainly not bad but nothing special and very expensive for what it was. PASS

Pleasently surprised would be the best way to describe my reaction to my lunch here. Oh it’s not like I walked in here with a bad attitude and thought that my lunch was going to taste awful, but I just had a moment of reminiscing back to buying the dried cherry pasta salad at Caribou when I was in high school, and wondering to myself if it was going to be bland like that. I decided while waiting in line to try that pasta salad once more and see if it was any different than I remembered, and holy moly was it ever! Maybe it was just because it was made fresh in the restaurant vs being in a plastic container and delivered by truck, but it was SO fresh, wasn’t overly salty(like I remember it sometimes being), and was all in all delicious! I decided to go with the bacon gorgonzola salad and a half of a turkey avocado sandwich. Both were absolutely phenominal! The sandwich was a little dry and required mayo, even though it did say that it had some form of aioli on it, I didn’t taste anything of the sort. The pasta though… wow. There are no words to even use that could possibly describe how wonderful the pasta salad was! The woman behind the counter even put MORE gorgonzola on it for me which was wonderful because I can’t get enough cheese sometimes! The visit was a really nice one, and though I really enjoyed the customer service as well as the food, it’s a bit too costly for what you get to frequent here. I do look forward to trying their salads at a later date though, they had a really nice looking selection of chef salads!

The staff here is wonderful and the food is great. I’ve eaten here many times and had many good meals. My only complaint is that they no longer have the Cuban sandwich or the smoked mozzarella and prosciutto pizza.

I think anything associated with D’Amico is usually pretty reliable. I’ve tried this location out several times for lunch and have always been satisfied. I’m not sure I’d make this downtown spot an option for dinner(mostly because there are too many other better options) but it’s a perfectly fine place for lunch. It’s fresh and you feel like you’re getting something reasonably healthy. I like the salad sampler($ 7.79) which gives you the option for 3 different salads(or 2 larger portions if you prefer). There are sandwiches, soups and pizza’s if you want to go that route. If your working or shopping in the skyway it’s a place you can get in and out rather quick or take to go if you’d rather. Certainly a good option for the downtown crowd.

I was trying to decide where to eat dinner after work tonight, and ended up going here because there was easy skyway access from my hotel. Lesson of the night: go straight to dinner after work. Do not stop to relax in the hotel room for a while first. When I got here, it was about 20 minutes before they closed, but the place looked like it had been closed for an hour. The man at the counter happily took my order though, and seemed genuinely appreciative of my business. Best service at a glorified take out restaurant ever. And, while I thought I was only buying a sandwich, when I got back to my room, I found that he had thrown in a bag of chips, too. Bonus! The sandwich itself, was a bit of a disappointment. I ordered the Roast Turkey Club and it seemed cold and hard. You could tell that it was quite tasty at one point, though, and some remnants of that flavor still remained. I just wish I would have either gotten there earlier when the food was fresher, or asked him to warm it up.
