For Birds Only

This so called «bird shop» how can I put it um sucks. The first Canarie my mother bought from this place she was told was a male but turn out to a female. Then we went back and got a male for the price of a female everything was going good. Then the female pass away suddenly my mother was in shock. She wanted to get another female Canarie so the male Canarie will not feel lonely. We went to get another female Canarie for the male Canarie everything was back to normal as one could say. But a few hours ago the female Canarie pass away suddenly just like the first female Canarie. We are never going back to thatt «bird shop «. Please do your research about the place you are going to buy your pet (s).

Every time I shop here I am thankful this store exists. I’ve had my parrot for ten years– and everything I need is always in stock. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The extra treat is seeing all the birds. They have an amazing variety, and there are always baby birds to watch and enjoy. Highly recommended.

I come here to get all of my bird supplies. They carry Harrison’s bird food which is high end and I cannot get it anywhere else nearby. The store is family owned and everyone is very friendly. They have a back room with a different assortment of birds for the beginner — parakeets or someone looking for a larger bird. The back room is noisy, but bird owners know that birds are noisy. The back room is very clean and the birds are mostly free to roam. Small birds are contained. Anyone that thinks these people do not care about birds is truly mistaken. I was in the shop one day when a customer brought in a bird for nail and beak trimming. That customer told the owner that they never let the bird out of the cage and the owner started schooling that customer about how the bird needs to come out and get some time to stretch the wings etc. The bird owner then said they did not have enough time for all that and the store owner said «well it’s not good for your birds health and mental well being to be in a cage all the time». The store owner also said that the cage was way to small for the bird. After the customer left the store, the store owner was so upset about the living conditions of the bird and the horrible food the owner was feeding it.
In conclusion, people think birds are cheap to keep and that they are self sufficient, neither of which are true. If you can’t afford regular vet checks and good food for your bird, please do not get a bird. They are fragile and need attention.

I always come to this store it’s really a wonderful store if u like birds! My African grey loves coming to this store to play with other parrots his size lol

This place is a small family owned business and the owners are super knowledgeable and genuinely care. Prices are actually comparable to bigger brands like Petco and Petsmart and even if not, I don’t mind pay a bit more for the personal attention you get and to support smaller businesses.
One of my dogs has a sensitive stomach and I ran out of options at Petco so I decided to check this out. The owner not only gave me samples of a variety of food to try but also told me if the food I was buying that day didn’t work that I could return the open bag to try something else if needed. Thankfully I didn’t need to as he was spot on with the food settling my dogs stomach. Brand was Health Extensions and it’s a local company on long island and I recommend the food itself as well.
The only reason I didn’t give this place 5 stars is because it’s primary focus is on birds and I can’t really comment on the health and care of the birds but it seems OK to me and other reviewers here seem happy with their bird purchases.
Also, people complaining about it being loud… it’s a store filled with birds…

They are a bird FACTORY. People say they love pet birds??? Why? Because they have so many??? RESPONSIBLE bird breeders DO NOT HAVE NOR SELL THOUSANDS of birds. Does this place have community outreach, classes for for the new owner of a hook billed bird? Do they protect the birds they sell and take them back when families — for one reason or the other (and there is always a reason) — need to rehome the birds? Do they spend enough time making sure their customers really should be bird owners? Love birds indeed. They are in a business. The only thing they love is making money under the guise of loving birds. Normally nothing wrong with making money, but they are the type of store that is responsible for the ever growing problem of homeless pet birds. It is a huge problem. A problem of EPIDEMIC proportions. You love birds? You want to learn about birds? Go to the Gabriel Foundation website and read their articles for new bird owners — read the stories of their birds. Go to the Oasis Sanctuary (Scottsdale, AZ) website and read their articles for new birds owners — read the stories about the birds entrusted in their care. Go to Mickaboo bird rescue website. Go to the LI PARROT SOCIETY and ADOPT an older bird in need of a home. Visit your nearest Avian and Exotic Vet — ask questions to really make sure a bird is right for you. DO NOT, I repeat, do not buy from a place like this.

I have purchased several parrots from here. All my parrots were in great condition and well behaved. I honestly love this place. They have everything. The lady who runs the place takes good care of the birds. Whenever I have gone here they have had numerous types of parrots and most are very friendly. I have gone to places like First Flight on Long Island and have left feeling depressed because of how the birds were taken care of. When I go to visit For Birds Only I know most of those parrots are living a good life while they wait for their future owner to purchase them. Most of the birds are given freedom to be out of their cages and are allowed to socialize with other birds. The employees there care deeply for their birds. Yes there is dust and dander but that is with all birds. Any parrot owner knows birds are messy and no matter how many times you pick up after them there is always a mess. I love this place and recommend it for anyone looking for a future parrot companion.

IT can be very noisy and caotic. Maybe a bit too cramped but that the birds in this store are «loved» is also very obvious. Terrific with bird grooming, fast, gentle and efficient.

I should preface this review first by saying that I am a bird phanatic :)
This pet store was recommended to me when I was looking to purchase a cockatiel. I went in during a lunch break and checked out the selection. I was amazed at the variety of different types of birds they offered. The back room had the larger parrots and cockatiels, most not in cages. All the birds seemed happy and playful. The food and water bowls were clean and filled with food and yummy treats. I made the mistake of picking up a beautiful and friendly umbrella cockatoo, who then ripped TWO buttons off my jacket before I knew what happened. Sneaky birdies gotta love them. I have since purchased 2 birds from this store and regularly bring my conure back to get his wings and nails. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. 2 thumbs up!
