Petco

I have been to this location multiple times and customer service is hit or miss. I don’t know if they just don’t have enough employees or how it works out, but it’s usually that I go in and see a bunch of people more than willing to help me or I go in and see the one person on the register and it seems like there’s no one else in the store.
I’ve never seen this place too crowded. So I’m baffled by the way it works out when I shop there. They have a good selection a really good selection overall. They have a ton of different dog foods which is good because my little dog is fairly picky and what he eats. So we had to try a lot of different choices before he was happy.
I love that they have things for the different holiday is and that I was able to get my dog a costume for Halloween. I would like to use their grooming service sometime but I worry that Hale, my baby, won’t get along with people there. And it’s against their policy for me to stay close while he’s getting groomed. And since they won’t muzzle him, I don’t think will be using the service anytime soon. That’s disappointing because they’re close and it would just be so much more convenient if we could go there

I brought my 6lb dog (yes 6 lbs– not a typo) in for a groom for the first time at this store. After her being there for 5 hours (?) she was very close shaven after being told just to give her a trim. Then, I was charged $ 86??? That is ALOT of money for a six pound dog. Now, as I got home and I am looking closely at her, her fur is uneven. There are places on her that have longer patches of fur. All she got was a wash, very short trim, nails clipped and ears cleaned. Nothing else special. Never again.

Who cant love this place! Its all about the animals.
I came for some emergency parrot food as they so not carry the specialty stuff that I use. The selections of parrot food is limited to just a few choices when it comes to pellet type foods. They do however have a good selection if seed based food or as I call it birdy crack in a bag. My parrot loves the seed stuff but its just not all that good for them.
The selection of cat and dog items is enormous. There did seem to be an extensive sale going on with lots of items extra discounted with your Petco card.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, but there were only two employees in the store and with one on break the other employee could not leave the front area to help a customer in the back. It seems that all store are cutting hours with employees.
My experience here has always been a pleasant one.

Came here for a 9:00 am appt for grooming. They didn’t take my puppy in until 12:30. Then they wondered why she wasnt still. The girl didn’t seem to know how to deal with my pyppy. I had to go back and keep her calm for a bit. They told me to come back the next day but I didn’t. It was a waste. What’s the point of making appointments? I don’t recommend this at all.

So I’m a long time customer of the New Hyde Park, NY Petco. My dog went through every training class possible there. They even created a couple for him. One, Therapy Dig training they still give. He was the first Therapy Dog trained at Petco in the country. They store was better back then though.
Recently I got a puppy and decided to train her the same way I did my other dog. The trainer trainer that trained my other dog, Julia, has since been promote and runs the Levittown store. I decide to train my pup in Levittown since honestly, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That being said, I wanted to bring my pup to New Hyde Park for puppy play Sunday mornings since its 5 min from my house as opposed to the 25 min of Levittown. So I go last week and the head trainer asks if in taking classes. I say yes with Julia in Levittown. She says fine and let’s us in and off we go. This week i go back, same question only this time she says I have to pay $ 10 because I’m not taking classes in her store! Seriously??? I just forked over $ 110 for puppy class and expect over the next year, if she takes all the classes like my oldest did, fork over close to $ 1000 for training and she wants $ 10 to let her play with the other pups? I could see if it cost her anything but there is no cost to letting my dog run with other dogs. The space they have is huge. She was just I say because I’m taking classes at the other store and not hers. Ridiculous. I thought we were part of a Petco family. Apparently not! They should be thrilled I still go to the store at all. That me going there means I buy food, doggie toys, clothes and treats and any number of things that I wouldn’t be drawn to do if not for going for puppy play. What a sad petty way of thinking this is.
Funny thing is PetSmart is no further from my house and carries everything Petco does. Wonder where my business will go now?!? Lmao. That’s PetSmart on union turnpike in lake success. Tell them I sent you ;)

Such a shame. After 14+ years of being a grooming customer for 3 dogs through the years, I won’t be going back. Gone are the days of the caring, customer friendly groomers… I was late yesterday for a haircutting appt. My fault completely. I walked in with my 2 dogs in tow and knew immediately there was a problem. Instead of being greeted, I got the glaring/​arms folded huffy routine by Helene and the other 2 groomers. I was wrong — I apologized for being late. They told me they were too busy to take me. I explained that I had a family emergency, and asked if they could fit me in — I have never been late in all of the 14 years of being a nice, respectful and loyal customer.(yes, they do keep notes on customers!) Nope — no can do — way too busy, (only 2 of the 3 groomers actually working though). When I got back home, I discovered that the groomers left a message on my home phone asking if I was coming or if I wanted to reschedule. The message was left at 2:35p.m. — I had arrived at the store at 2:40p.m. Why could they take me at 2:35, but not at 2:40!!! Can’t tell you how many times through the years I waited for them because my dogs weren’t ready. I patiently waited, never complained, and I was always pleasant. I get it now — their time is valuable — mine is not, I had to be flexible and patient when my dogs weren’t ready on time — they do not. The manager apologized, but the solution she came up with was simply to reschedule both dogs for the next day. Really bad business. This place isn’t cheap — I spend $ 150 every few months for grooming for both dogs, (plus a 20% tip), not to mention expensive dog food, toys, treats, fish, etc. I kept my mouth shut for the occasional grooming slip ups recently — bad/​choppy rushed cuts — uncut nails, (one groomer got caught in a lie about this one — said another groomer was supposed to have done it)…I discovered yesterday that being too nice leaves you with tire tracks on your back.

I came here for my fish. There is a huge selection of things and a bunch of animals to look at. This place is awesome and is by far the best pet store I have been to yet. Definitely try it out. This place is huge.

This store is just sad. There are dead and half dead animals in the tanks and no one seems to care, even when you tell someone. I was there last week and there were seriously 4 half dead mice in the tanks, there was no water in many of the enclosures, poop smeared along the glass in many of the tanks, reptiles who were so thin it was painful. This is shameful for a pet store to look this way. Shame on you Petco. FIX THIS

The groomers are so kind (to the customers and the animals), very professional and talented ! i have such a scared and temperamental cat and they are able to bathe her & cut her nails and always come out unscathed. Tell me your secrets! This is the only place I’m comfortable taking my cat (she’s my princess). We used to take my dog (golden retriever) here all the time when she needed a haircut and she would get so excited! She loved the attention the groomers gave her, and she loved baths and playing with other dogs! Very loyal to these groomers.

Went in with my dog for her first grooming. Keep in mind that what I asked for was a grooooom. When I went in, I saw another dog and she was completely shaven off. Not wanting that for my dog, I asked them that I did not want them to shave her. However, groomer 623 kept giving me reasons why she needed to be shaved. So being the newbie that I am, I trusted her, and this was before I read any reviews. I was told to come back about three hours after I left my dog, because she didn’t want to «rush» it. Although I came back a little after three hours later, I still had to wait an extra 40 – 45 minutes. I feel like they can’t get the job done as quickly because they’re too busy chitchatting with each other.
When I came back to pick her up, she was completely stripped of her fur. Not making a big deal out of it because I sort of gave the groomer permission to do so, I waited patiently. When I got the receipt to give to the person at the register, I saw that I was getting charged a «grooming» fee AND another fee costing $ 17 called «the works.» I paid and then went back in and asked the groomer what «the works» was. She said it is the little bandana she put on my dog (that I didn’t ask for) and for brushing her teeth, and «you know, the works.» Because I didn’t want to argue about how I didn’t ask for this yet she charged me for it, I left after getting my dog.
Never going back.
Oh, and the old lady up in the front register needs to get some lessons on how to work in customer service.

I brought my 4 month old Maltipoo in to be groomed. We asked for a trim. The apointment was for 11:30 and we arrived on time. They made us leave her and called us hours later to pick her up. Instead of a trim, they completely shaved her! They said she was matted, which she was not! As I said, she is a Maltipoo, a breed with curly hair, not a Maltese, whose hair would be straight. If they did not know how to groom this breed, they should not have taken the dog. My daughter picked her up for me and they made her pay or they would not release the dog.
I went in for a refund and the manager, Hamerton Joseph, had left the store for the day at 4:00. The teenybopper acting manager locked herself in the office to call him and he told her to give me a COUPON for a DISCOUNT on the next grooming! In what world would I ever bring my dog back there! I asked to speak to him on the phone and he refused to do so. I was told to come back the next day. While I was waiting, I showed the before and after pictures to 3 customers. One said «Oh no!» one said «Oh God!» and the third said «Oh my!»
I disputed the charge with the credit card company and called Petco to complain about this. I am waiting for a response from the district manager. It will be my mission to get these people fired.

I live close by so it is all about convenience for me. We dont go here much anymore since my cat has to get prescription food from our vet. But its got all the essentials for pet lovers

Bright, well lit, clean and chock full of animal foods, toys, and accoutrements. They ahve a private parking lot and the staff is always willing to assist you.

I received stellar service from a pair of young ladies, whose kindness and overall good cheer drowned out the teenie bopper-​friendly tunes overhead and the whines of young kids that surrounded me, nonchalanatly requesting new pets and quasi-​exotic species (as far as Petco carries such a thing, I suppose).

This is my first «suburban» Petco. I do’nt consider the one in Whitestone suburban because its in a giant strip mall that is pretty clean and built up.
This Petco is a free-​standing store and looks pretty shotty on the outside. I then realized that not everything looks «city-​fied».
But on the inside, it is just like every other Petco, filled w. animal items of all kinds. The dog section is actually really huge and takes up the majority of the store. I now go to the cat section and it has a pretty good selection of kitty toys (which I couldnt get any b.c. my booboo is spoiled enough).
Theres also a wall where you can peruse some kitties for adoption — alot of them are adorbs and just want you to bring them home. Maybe next time we go I can get a friend for Taro…
