The Refinery is a photography studio unlike any other. Based in the historic Railway Exchange Building in Downtown Milwaukee and run by award-winning photographer Jessica Kaminski, the core goal/mission of the studio is simple: Rethink Portraiture. The Refinery was created to be a unique creative environment curated to meet clients’ varying photographic needs. Whether it is headshots for career advancement, highlighting the power of your team, celebrating an important milestone or creating a fantasy persona to inhabit — The Refinery will work with you to create not only a portrait to love, but one that is a timeless representation of your best self.
History
Established in 2003.
Owner and Photographer Jessica Kaminski has been a professional photographer since receiving her B.F.A in Photography from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2001. Some of her career highlights include serving as Staff Photographer for M Magazine, shooting ads for the Milwaukee Ballet, and publishing a portrait photography book called MKE Beard which features local men and their beards.
At the end of 2014, Kaminski moved her business into the Historical Railway Exchange Building, and opened a boutique studio which she named The Refinery Photo Studio. The studio specializes in portraiture, and serves individuals, small businesses, and corporations alike. Whether you’re looking for a classic headshot or a dramatic cinematic image to promote your brand, The Refinery team can meet your needs. Photographer Jessica and Producer Kate, will work closely with you from beginning to end.

Business Owner
Jessica Kaminski is a graduate from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, class of 2001. Her early career consisted of assisting for commercial and editorial photographers which had her traveling throughout the United States. As her career expanded, she served as staff photographer for M Magazine, has photographed ad campaigns for Milwaukee Ballet and Milwaukee Film, and has published a portrait book entitled MKE Beard which highlights some of Milwaukee’s beardsmen.
Jessica moved her business into the Historic Railway Exchange Building in 2014, and works closely with her Producer, Kate to create amazing photography sessions, maintain consistent client communications, and offer personable service.
