Custom Tattoo

I had my half sleeve done here by Troy last fall. He was super professional and very friendly! Most importantly I love my tattoo! :D

Thank goodness for this shop. I was starting to think I was going to have to go all the way back to CA to get a clean shop with nice artists that don’t try to make you feel like poo. This shop is clean, and both Greg and Troy did great work. The best tattoo experience both my husband and I have had, and we’ve had a lot of them. We will be back.

I have a few tattoos, and have never really stuck to a specific shop… until now. Greg is a very talented artist, and also a really nice guy, who will make you feel right at home in the chair. I was in for two sessions, and couldn’t be happier. I booked in advance both times, but never had to wait longer than I wanted for an appointment. 10/​10, would recommend! I will definitely be back.
There is a slight upcharge if you’re paying with plastic– I recommend having cash.

Greg = one of the owners of Custom Tattoo = super nice guy who wants you to feel good about your tattoo and will talk through/​work with you to make sure it’s just perfect.
I got my mom a gift certificate to Custom Tattoo for her 50^th birthday a few years back; she’d always wanted a tattoo but had been hesitant with the follow-​through her whole life. Claims of «I’m going to get a huge badass snake tattoo running down my entire arm!» were obviously bogus, although she sure liked to talk big…
Enter myself and my brother throwing down to get said birthday gift certificate. Now you have no excuse not to get that biker snake arm badassery, mom!
Of course she opted for a slightly-​smaller than hand-​sized tattoo of an Iris, her favorite flower. (I told you… all talk on that snake business. Pfft.) After some help easing her into the process itself — she was so *so* nervous — Greg worked with my mom to make her feel comfortable with sizing, placement, and the artwork itself. She ended up loving the Iris tattoo she had done by Greg on her shoulder blade; and while it turns out she’s not great with the buzzing/​needle/​actuality of the tattooing process, she rocks tanks in the summer like no one’s business to show that thing off.
Lisa’s right; the environment is extremely clean and simple/​minimal in décor/​setup. Obviously different artists boast different styles when it comes to their work, and Greg’s no exception. That said, mom loves her tattoo and I’m just about positive she secretly wants another one. Maybe for her 60^th…

Just got my first tattoo done over the weekend along with my wife, father and brother. Troy did the tattoos for all of us and it went great. I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out. We had an idea of what we wanted but not the complete picture and we left it up to Troy to draw out the details and it came out awesome.

Got my first tattoo done here and Greg was gentle and really helped me relax. The place is clean and the staff is incredibly professional… highly recommended!

Nice place. Nice people. I was nervous to get my tattoo and Greg helped me to relax, he’s got some pretty awesome jokes to tell… Even though my tattoo was a small job, he treated me with respect, overall great service. Definitely would go back for more.

Custom Tattoo is where I have gotten three of my tattoos done. The simple and clean environment is certainly a contributing factor as to why I chose to come here so many times. Greg Foster did a great job with my tattoos and is by far one of the best people to have ever inked my skin. I don’t cry and I am not a squirmer, but his words of encouragement and care for my well-​being were comforting as I was being tatted. I’d like to compliment him specifically on the great job that was done with shading!

Greg Foster is fantastic and really listens to what you want. Typically you should schedule an appointment but this past Saturday some friends and I were lucky enough to walk in and he fit us in. The shop is clean and Greg has a really good way of putting you at easy while he’s doing your tattoo. I will definitely return to him in the future and recommend him to anyone wanting a tattoo. A++

Today I just got my first ink at Custom Tattoo. Mike was the artist I worked with there and he did a great job taking my ideas and the multiple images I emailed him and integrating them into a fantastic design. He worked fast and his shading suggestions were great and really added to the design. I might have given 5 stars, but since this was my first tattoo I don’t really have anything to which I can compare. His price seemed very reasonable. He quoted me a price that was higher because we weren’t sure if we would use other color or the complexity of the design, but he came in under the quote which was a great surprise!

Everyone at Custom Tattoo was very friendly and helpful, and even though I was only getting my lip pierced, I didn’t feel like the process was being rushed or taken less seriously than if i was getting something more complicated. The shop is clean and bright, and in no way scuzzy, and noone had that pissy attitude you kind of expect to encounter in a tattoo shop. Really nice people!
I haven’t had any abnormal problems with my piercing (it’s been 3 days since I got it), and I had a good experience overall, but to be honest, I don’t think I would get a tattoo here. I was maybe a little spoiled, because I got my first 3 tattoos done at Insight Studios (in Chicago, check them out!) and couldn’t be happier with them, so I do have really high expectations of tattoo artists as a result. The tattoo work at Custom, at least based on what I saw in the artists’ portfolios, is a little inconsistent. Some of the work is truly beautiful and really well done, but enough of the other stuff has amateur problems, like shaky and heavy-​handed linework, that would make me too nervous to go here for any inkwork. That might just mean that the portfolios are in need of an update, with some newer and better (and cleaner) stuff; I’m just going off of what I saw on their site and what was in the photoalbum next to the counter. I definitely wouldn’t write these guys off completely, and their pricing is really fair ($ 25 for piercings, including the jewelry). Just be careful, because you do tend to get what you pay for!

I recently got my third tattoo, and my first at Custom. Everything about the shop, its owner and their work was top-​notch. My artist was Greg, also the owner, who made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. I came in with the basic design, and he made the modifications I asked for and created a picture of what I wanted. When it came down to the actual work, he was really friendly, relaxed and helpful in answering the care questions I had.
The shop is immaculate and bright, and they usually have tunes going. I got tattooed to some Beck and Tom Waits which helped me relax during the 2 hours I was in the chair.
My tattoo is nothing short of spectacular. I know that with one touch-​up appointment, my Custom tattoo will most certainly be my favorite. I’ll upload a photo for the site when it heals, but you have to trust me, this is a great shop. Best tattooing experience I’ve had, and I can’t tell you how proud I am that it happened in MKE.

After much hemming and hawing, I decided to get re-​pierced while in the Milwaukee area. I had gotten a piercing at Gothic Body in the past, which was a so-​so experience. I remembered seeing Custom Tattoo appear on the east side a year or two ago and checked out their website. I was pleased by it’s sleek design and the fact that piercings are only 25 $ including jewelry! The studio is extremely clean and well designed/​decorated. The piercer was incredibly kind, informative and confident (precisely the traits you like to see in the person who is about to punch a hole in your face.) The whole experience was fast, wonderful and an incredible bargain to boot. If only I needed another piercing…
