Right At Home

If I could give zero stars on this, I would! I am the primary care giver contracted by the family of my client, Right @ Home provided respite care 2 days of the week. Another company with little oversight or forethought. Caregivers would give no notice and change their schedule forcing me to either not take a weekend or for Right @ Home to send over someone who is not familiar with the client.
Four major points of contention:
1) It’s a carousel of faces parading through the client’s home. No consistency whatsoever. This is the opposite of what you want for anyone with a neurological illness.
2) Couldn’t decide whether or not they were allowed to administer insulin injections for client.
3) Caregivers were constantly forgetting to give client meds out of pre-​filled organizer.
4) One of their caregivers mopped a ceramic tile floor with granite polish out of a spray bottle with «stone polish» right on the front… also printed on the back label. This resulted in a dangerous situation, the floors were slippery, I did slip and fall and sustained a concussion. Secondly, this resulted in damage to the grout which is still present, and the client will soon be having stanley steemer back to try to remove the polish from the grout.
Overall, my client was constantly confused because of the rotating caregivers, the neglect of not giving her meds for her neurological conditions was horrifying, and the damage done to both the floors and my brain make me want to vomit. The owner/​operators hide behind a simpering demeanor while exhibiting a cavalier attitude about the wellness of their clients, or my own wellness as several events I was supposed to attend were athletic events that require you to not have brain swelling, and the only thing offered was an apology and perhaps have one of their inept caregivers give me respite for a day.
Respite care should keep the client comfortable and well-​cared for, but also give the primary caregiver rest and relief away from the stress of caring for someone with dementia full-​time. They failed at doing either of these things.
If your elder needs to be on any kind of regimen, be it medical or just on a schedule, don’t go with this company.

Jun-​2013: If you need non-​medical home care for a loved one, I recommend Right at Home — San Jose /​Milpitas /​Fremont because they are reliable and easy to work with. The owner, Sixto, is really dedicated to customer satisfaction! He goes the extra mile to make sure your loved one is well cared for!
