Meet Belinda for new account. She was very helpful. She helped quickly and made good suggestions during my visit

HSBC may offer good deposit rate, it rarely has customers waiting in line, and the tellers may be friendly, but I don’t recommend the bank because of its bad policies and practices.
1. HSBC’s employees are very aggressive in selling. They invited us to attend a «financial review» meeting. During the meeting, they spent most of the time talking about the benefits of bonds, deferred annuity, and long-​term care insurance. The meeting was full of sales pitch, not a true financial review. They just want to sell, without giving much thought on our financial situations and needs. I tried not to visit the branch so not to be caught up by more sales pitch.
2. HSBC doesn’t pay accrued interest until the «interest credit day». If customers close accounts before the interest credit day, they would lose all interest not yet credited. I asked about this specifically when I opened the account and was told that they pay interest up to the close day. In addition, HSBC’s monthly statement is very confusing because the statement cut-​off day is different from the interest credit day. I called the branch for clarification after receiving the first monthly statement. I was told that HSBC pays interest monthly but was offered no further details. Later on I read the bank’s «Rules for Consumer Deposit Accounts» and found those policies. Apparently, that employee didn’t know the rules or just tried to mislead customers.
3. HSBC’s customer services are slow or non-​responsive. I had a joint account with another person and I was the secondary accountholder. Shortly after opening the account, I called the 800 number and asked for a phone access code. The rep said she would mail it to me. That didn’t happen. I also asked for ATM card, they sent one to the primary accountholder but not me. In Mid-​January, HSBC sent the other person an e-​mail saying the Form 1099 was available for review. The other person has never registered on HSBC on-​line and did not want to go thru the hassle to register on-​line. I sent two secured e-​mails thru HSBC’s website asking the Form 1099 be sent us by regular mail. I didn’t hear from them until two weeks later. We finally received our Form 1099 by regular mail in late February after four written requests to the head office or the branch. I have accounts with several other banks and never before had so much trouble getting those basic services.

Very bad service compare with other countries. Only 1 teller available. She did not have enough experience. It took over 20 mins to process a transaction

unprofessional, misleading
last year, i tried to borrow money from HSBC to buy a house.
I had been US for only half yr. Most banks can’t deal w/​my case.
HSBC said it can, but need 25% down pay and 100k deposit to open premier account.
1^st misleading:
Since my money was in China, they said 25% down pay had stayed in US bank for 2 months but 100k needn’t
after 2 months, i contacted them. They said they needed see 100k in local bank for 2 months as well… Hey, i had found the house and had done everything you told. then, you told me HSBC changed the policy. but obviously, the guy (named D*) from Cupertino branch was not familiar with his business and he misled me until i got the another answer from another agent.
2^nd misleading:
they checked my credit and told me you had no record and no score due to short credit history. i was so upset at that time, i desperately asked different agents, «i don’t have any credit record, could you lend me money»… later, i asked another bank to check my credit and then realized they didn’t pull my credit. So, i went back to ask her (named Jo*), she admitted there was an issue in their system… ACTUALLY, my credit score was not bad. I had average score 700+
at last, i borrowed money from a credit union
HSBC only wasted my credit, wasted my time, upset me

The tellers i would say are the only reason i came to this branch and that’s where the stars end.
Yes Drea L, Cherry is very nice and helpful. Jonathan is not, he appears to be, but in the end he covers up corporate or management’s policy of ensuring your money doesn’t leave the bank.
Expect the run around, no clear answers, some deceit and a clear message that this bank management is not here to help you.
There is a BofA across the street and even though they nickle and dime you to death, they will actually treat you as a customer and not as an asset.

In trying to help my 89 year old mother settle my late dad’s estate, I have never encountered a group as inept as this bank. They have lost our paperwork, sent documents to the wrong address, never returned a phone call. I must keep calling and get a new person each time. I leave messages they claim they never receive. It has been a nightmare. Never will I deal with this bank again!

Friendly service and a smile to greet each of their customer. Normally I wouldn’t Unilocal a bank, but as Ivan noted in his review, this branch is really great and worthy of a shout out. The tellers (Jonathan, Cherry and Vicky) are all very nice and helpful. This branch is a great addition to the Milpitas area.

best HSBC branch! i’ve been to other branches but this is my favoite, everybody is very friendly and most importantly, helpful!
not many ppl know they are right behind milpitas town hall, so there’s no wait which is good
i also love their Premier product. making banking extremely convenient and international, i feel like a worldwide VIP
