Established in 2001.

On Valentine’s day in Feb 2001, doctor Desai, took over the practice from Dr. Fry and Dr. Simon. Dr. Desai has been practicing general and family dentistry since 1994 in California. She started providing orthodontic services (including Invisalign) to children and adults from 2005.

Dr. Ami Desai has been practicing family and cosmetic dentistry since 1989. She started practicing in California from 1994 and established practice in Milpitas in February 2001. She has received orthodontic training from USDI starting from 2004. She loves working with children. She is extremely caring and gentle. There are patients who are as young as one year old and as old as 104 in her practice. Some family’s three generation has been coming to see her because they trust her philosophy of helping keep there teeth as long as possible with minimal dentistry by addressing problems before they become serious issues. She offers gum treatment, cosmetic filling, ceramic crown and bridge work, root canal, veneer, teeth whitening etc. She accepts all major dental PPO plans. She offers payment plans through CareCredit. She accepts all major credit cards. She offers latest technologies such as digital x-​rays, nitrous oxide, oral camera. She follows up all major treatment by phone calls.

Words cannot describe how grateful we feel to have met Dr. Desai. She is our first dentist in Bay Area and we could not find better dentist than her. We had an extremely delicate orthodontics case with severe deep bite. Our first and uttermost request was to not do any extraction. She understood the background very well and crafted the treatment accordingly. Dr. Desai engineered our case with a lot of care and patience for 2+ years. She fulfilled all our requests and helped us even during non-​working hours when needed.
During every appointment, she continuously checks if we are doing okay, which is very comforting. After every critical treatment, we get a follow-​up call to make sure that everything is fine. Also, every staff member at her clinic is very professional and helpful. She is detailed, thorough and does her job with a lot of Passion. And that makes her BEST at what she does.

I visited this clinic when doctor was out of town. There was a proxy doctor. And she was really good too. Of course, Dr Ami Desai is excellent as well. Very honest and genuine clinic.

Went in for a broken filling and a new mouth gaurd for night time teeth grinding. One of the best things about Dr. Desai is she is amazingly gentle and never causes me any pain or discomfort. When she gives a shot to numb the tooth, she has a terrific technique where she massages the injection area while putting in the numbing agent. Plain and simple, it never hurts. Throughout the process, she pays great attention for any signs of pain and always makes sure I am comfortable. I have never had another dentist offer this type of caring and compassion. The new mouth guard she made me fits perfectly and is made from a material that is very comfortable and simple to clean. Here staff is also first class and Sanjay has saved me quite a bit of money over the years because he is so good with dealing with insurance companies. If you have been putting off going to a dentist because you are afraid of pain, bills, etc, at least give these guys a chance to take a look at your teeth for an initial consultation. I’ve known Dr. Desai for quite a long time. I was a patient of the previous dentist, and was naturally taken over by Dr. Desai. I am one that likes going to my dentist to get my teeth cleaned and to make sure that everything is in order, and Dr. Desai really keeps me in check. I even had a root canal done years back and contrary to popular belief, it was quite easy for me (I realize I am in the minority). She is very detail-​oriented, and this is what you need from a dentist.

Bad doctor and her staff specially the one sitting outside Mr. Sanjay. First of all there was a proxy doctor when I visited for the first time and I was not informed about that before. I was surprised when I was on chair and my x Rays were done and then suddenly the proxy dr appeared who did nt had any knowledge and was not at all helpful. I had to move and I requested something she started asking to Sanjay who was sitting outside. I could not make who was dr. That’s totally unethical. She did some work and it came off in 15 days.
Pls beware of this dr and her staff. They are after money. I Wish I could give 0 stars 1 less because of sanjay

Ami Desai was a very nice person when i first went in for my very first time. they have nice staff and a good location… The man that greets you and takes you money at the front counter is very nice also… That being said … I have come to the conclusion that here Dental work is all but unsatisfactory .
I went in to have a front tooth chip repaired at a cost of over 600 dollars. my insurance paid for some of the cost. A few months later i went back and told her that the tooth was starting to crack. she said, «oh come back next week an ill fix it. oh no charge»! The next week came and I went in to have it repaired. I walked in and she met me at the counter telling me that she does not want to repair it. I asked why?
Well she said «I did my work to repair it and if you do not like it i would suggest that you try another Dentist». WOW. what in the hell happened? She gave me 60 bucks back for my troubles!!!
1. i guess she billed the insurance and kept the money?
2. Apparently Im not the only one that gets this type of treatment?
3. is she really qualified?
I do know this, all my first impressions of this dentist turned out to be a not so good of a judgment on my part, she proved it by her part.
I rated this Dentist a one star, but if i could have given her a minus 0 stars i would have.

Dr Desai and her staff are amazing. Sanjay is organized, always has a smile and Dr. Desai is gentle, very kind and most professional. Do not wait for Dental care… She is worth seeing. She is honest and will tell you like it is. The 2nd set you get as an adult is in a cup… don’t wait!!! I am the biggest baby when it comes to the dentist… no more I have Dr. Desai… I don’t want to lose my teeth. Don’t be afraid. Call and visit them.

Dr. Desai is a wonderful dentist, if you have really sensitive teeth like I do and have had problems with the way other dentist being too rough in cleaning your teeth then Dr. Desai will definitely be the dentist for you. My family has be going to Dr. Desai for many years now and she really cares about us, she always asks how we are all doing and to please say hi to them. Last year I started INVISALIGN and at first I was not going to do it. I have had braces twice before and it was just terrible they always hurt and I still have flashes from the pain. But once I started Invisalign it was such a difference the pain or pressure would only last a maximum of 5 days where as the braces never stopped hurting. Most of the time though it would be fine after just three days. And unlike braces where you would have had to remember to brush your teeth, with Invisalign you have to brush and floss after every meal witch helped my gums and even made my teeth less sensitive to cleanings. Plus the add bonus of being able to just take them off made it so much more bearable. So if you are thinking about getting braces or you need to get them really consider going with Invisalign, it was a much better option for me.

My husband and I are both patients of Dr. Desai for many years. My husband and I both have had unfavorable experiences with dentists in the past, but we look to our appts. with Dr. Desai. She is both very professional with up to date knowledge and skills. We both recommend her as the best dentist. She takes the time with each patient, and educates them on how to keep your teeth healthy. I am in the medical profession and clearly understand that a healthy mouth is a healthy body. I am please that we found a great dentist, caring, gentle, and professional.

I have been going to Desai for almost 8 years and she is just simply amazing. Desai has always been very sweet and informative about proper hygiene and good home care. She has helped my teeth become straighter with very little equipment. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants a good dentist who is willing to help and understand patients. I love this office! They have always been very professional and Dr. Desai does excellent work. She has fixed mistakes my previous dentists have done on my teeth and since then i haven’t had any problems. This office is at a good location, there is always parking and it is as clean as it gets.
It is obvious they are very organized and the staff is always upbeat and in a good mood. When I go, the hygenist helping me informs me of my problem areas and makes excellent suggestions on how I can improve my oral health. The staff is very nice and when I’m getting my teeth cleaned they are very gentle.
I highly recommend this office to ANYONE looking for a dentist.

I have been a patient of Dr. Desai’s since she started at the Calaveras location (over 10 years ago, when I was in high school!). She is kind, patient, and GENTLE. I have really sensitive teeth and a FEAR of pain in my mouth– she always soothes my fear and cares for my sensitive teeth! I absolutely adore her, and can’t wait to bring my baby in for his first cleaning!

I really like Dr. Desai. I think she is very professional and made me feel better about having to get a filling done. I told her I was nervous. She gave me headphones to listen to while she worked. Anytime she had to talk to me, she would tap my shoulder and wait for me. I didn’t notice anything. She was done in about an hour and I couldn’t even see the filling. She said she does her best to have the color match the teeth. Great dentist. Would recommend her to anyone, and have.

Ami has been my dentist for over a year, and has shown a lot of attention and care to my specific issues. The quality of care is excellent, and every time I have worked with their dental hygienists they have been thorough and very gentle.
Ami is very good about offering affordable alternatives and working within your insurance restrictions to get you the best possible care.
I personally do not have an issue with them offering other services (upselling.) It is smart to do that if you are in business, and it helps make sure their clients know about all of the services available to them. If I am not interested, I am comfortable in saying «no thank you», and they are very courteous in receiving that answer.
Their high quality of care is why I use them.

So, Ive been going to this dentist for about 2 years and Ive never had any real problems until a few weeks ago. The staff was always nice and they put up with my attitude [which i always have in dentist/​doctors/​etc offices]. I don’t think i have bad teeth, so when this incident came up i was like WHAA???
This is what happened: A while ago I went into Dr Desai’s office to get my regular 6 month cleaning and i mentioned that a tooth was a little sensitive every once in a while. The hygienist said its probably just sensitive to whatever I’m eating [ie. cold, hot, sweets] i figured this made sense so i thought nothing of it. Then, as the procedure goes the dentist came to see me after the cleaning was done. She asked me if anything was bothering me and i mentioned the same thing. The Dr takes a look at my teeth and tells me that one of my fillings came out. SURPRISE! I all of a sudden have fillings?! wait, no i don’t. I don’t ever remember getting a filling done in my life nor do i remember having a cavity… Where did she get this from? I told her that i never had any fillings and she responded with «You don’t remember?»
After this I called my previous dentist that i had been going to for about 15 years to ask if i had ever had a filling. The receptionist looked me up and said the only thing she could find were sealants that i had put on my teeth.
Later I called Dr. desai’s office to tell them this. Apparently the Dr was on vacation so the receptionist told me to just come in the following week to talk with the dentist. When i went in Dr desai showed me the alleged «cavity» and «filling» that had come out. Then she said it could have been either a filling or a «really deep sealant». I was just like yeah whatever and walked out.
Im not saying this is a bad dentist, im just saying I DONT TRUST HER

I recently had to pay close to $ 400 out of pocket for my kids’ procedures (sealant) that my insurance would not cover and wondered if I was charged her requested «high» price or the insurance’s «discounted» price, which is the practice’s requested price less the «write-​off.» I also didn’t get the 10% discount for paying cash for the procedures that this place offers for doing so. I forgot to ask and they didn’t offer. In my own opinion, that’s not a good way to keep patient loyalty.
Bottom line, ask how much, then call your insurance and ask how much they would cover if they did cover the service then ask the practice to give you the same price and the 10% discount if paying cash/​check. Silly me, because of our history, I’d assume this was auto-​magic.
Time to find a new dentist!
