SFLocal Color specializes in restorative painting, for both ext-​int using highly trained skilled craftsmen. Our mission is to locate the cause of last paint job failings and correct by examining the surfaces, which are usually caused by poor water runoff, and excessive amounts of paint. Using the highest quality paints/​materials such as Ben Moore, C2, Duration Paints, fastidious preparation, plus excellent color choices, it follows to see why our firm has been nationally awarded and in business for 35 years.

Our team, led and managed by owner Bruce Nelson, has been blessed with an assembled host of professionals, certified in lead training, that assist in the many phases of restoration from copper/​sheet metal, cement/​stucco repair, dry-​rot repair using wood consolidants/​epoxy, carpentry, iron and plaster work.

Our list of homeowners have come to recognize the value of our long lasting jobs and return anywhere from 10 to 15 years for their update. Member PDCA, Artistic License, NTHP.

History

Established in 1975.

Local Color Painting began in early 70’s, when Bruce Nelson saw the need for longer lasting restoration, as well as beauty in the many Victorians/​Edwardians. LC was the first to strip off paint on a large scale which doubled the life expectancy, and made the next repaint less labor intensive. At the time the city agencies were tearing many down for redevelopment. But with color and imagination, the public took notice of their magnificent architecture, and recognized their historical importance to the city’s character. Local Color has received many achievements in it’s four decades of preserving historic buildings. Written up in all the Painted Ladies books of the 80’s and called a Mother of the Movement, SFLocal Color has been honored with an assortment of national awards for excellence, from the national organization of Painting and Decorating Contractors of America, a 130 year old fraternity.

Today their work can be seen in all the neighborhoods of SF, Marin, Piedmont, Oak-​Berk.

Manager

Chris Schneider, Local Color’s supervisor, is a great story of a dedicated craftsmen and model employee. He has been with the firm for over 23 years and called by many of my client’s as «the consummate professional».

Not only a teacher for my many employees on the art of restoration but his many years in seeing the industry develop. His experience on the job site gives the company an ability to plan the critical path to a successful conclusion. His motto has always been «it’s easier to do it right the first time». His ability to inspire and direct is unmatched in a industry that sees much turnover. Local Color keeps up the standard for quality for many good reasons but none more than Chris’s dedication and great character. Your job is his job and he prides himself on each restoration.
