Dave Fromer Soccer

Dave Fromer Soccer has been providing quality soccer programs in the Bay Area since 1974. More than 60,000 youth have enthusiastically participated in a variety of our programs. These offerings have included soccer camps, classes, clinics, and indoor leagues.

Dave Fromer Soccer coaches are talented, experienced, and inspiring. They make soccer fun while giving clear instruction, expert advice, and opportunities to repetitively practice new skills. They build self-​esteem through a nurturing, positive and supportive environment. They spread joy and build unity by sharing their passion for soccer!

History

Established in 1981.

I have always tried my best — as a player, an organizer, and a coach/​teacher — to share my passion for the game of soccer. I believe that every individual, from beginner to most advanced player, is special and deserves equal access to top-​quality coaching. I believe in celebrating the effort as much as the achievement. Over the past 40 years, more than 50,000 kids have participated in Dave Fromer Soccer programs. I have consistently seen these kids improve their fitness, ball skills, tactical sense, and confidence while having lots of fun!

Dave Fromer was a captain of the Hakoah U19 Boys U.S. National Champions, a first team college All-​American, a member of three national championship teams, and is in numerous halls of fame. He co-​founded the Mill Valley Soccer Club and the Mill Valley Girls League, and has been a Marin coach since 1974.

My son has been going to Dave Frommer’s Camp and Winter Soccer league since 2008 — 7 years! This loyalty tells you something of our experience, but I would like to add a bit more. What is wonderful about this organization is the way every player is treated the same, regardless of his/​her skill level. When the coaches and ref’s are at the games, they focus on fun and good sportsmanship. They even stop the game to let someone tie their shoes (often several someones at 2nd grade). The camp has drills, but the coaches aren’t drill sargents — they make it fun! Staff are always on time, focused and interested in doing the best for the kids. I also love that the staff is so multi-​cultural and international; it makes the experience richer when you live in Marin where there is little diversity. If you take a few minutes to learn about your coach, you may find you are talking to a former world champion or someone who was recently in the Olympics. These guys are true professionals who love what they do and it shows!

Our experience with the indoor soccer program was really disappointing. The coach was super competitive and only put the better players in. In the last game, my son did not get to play at all. My advice? Its probably fine if you sign up as part of a group, but do not take the chance of signing up as an individual. In my son’s case, the other boys all played together at school and on another team. Despite paying the full amount, and attending all games and practices, he was just a «filler» and income generator for the program.

I highly recommend Dave Fromer’s Soccer Camp!!! As a Marin County school teacher for over ten years, many, many of my students have attended his camps and have all raved about the wonderful experience. My son has also attended his camps, and we both found the program to be fun and highly instructional. As a parent, I also took comfort in knowing that this camp provided a safe, warm, nurturing place to leave my son each day. The coaches were so caring and attentive to his needs. Not only is Dave Fromer the most highly regarded soccer coach in the county, he is a rare person of unique integrity, compassion, warmth, and kindness. He went above and beyond to ensure my son was happy and engaged. A wonderful program run by a fantastic team of people!!!

Fromer Soccer Camp in an amazing group of talented people and my kids LOVE this camp. I have been sending my kids to Fromer Soccer camp for over 5 years now and they alway want to go back.
When my son first started he was only 5 years old and Fromer and their amazing staff got him going on drills and skills in a fun and instructive way. By the end of the week his soccer skills had improved greatly and his passion for the sport had increased as well.
My older son is quite and timid and the Fromer staff managed to inspire him and teach him the tools to become a more confident player. He went onto play in the Ross Valley league and they won the championship!
This is an amazing testament to the knowledge and skilled instructors at Fromer Soccer Camp and my older son was so excited to be holding the trophy at the end of the year with his team mates. A real confidence booster and the very reason why we teach our kids team sports.
Through passion, determination and teamwork we can achieve greatness. These are all tools that he learned from the Dave Fromer Soccer Camp.
I grew up on Mill Valley and Dave Fromer was our music teacher in 1st grade. It is so nice to see Dave continuing his passion for working with kids 40 years later. He is truly an amazing individual and his family business resinates with love and positive energy.
From beginner kids who never played soccer to the more advanced player who wants to learn some new skills to take to his team for the next school year, Fromer Soccer Camp has all the aspects and age groups covered. Its a great learning environment for your kids!!!

I love Dave Frommer’s camp and had a wonderful interaction with Linda in the front office. I double paid for one of my daughters and she immediately followed up with me a few hours later and resolved my issue. I also forgot to buy lunch and Linda took care of that for me as well. My children love the coaches.

This review is only for the poor customer service I received from someone who’s supposed to be representing a reputable soccer camp. I’m truly disappointed when a Linda called me back with poor attitude and left an unpleasant voicemail. Keep in mind parents, I’ve been calling the main number listed (415) 383‑0320, and no live person answers; therefore, the only option is to leave a voicemail. Sorry Dave, you’re a really nice guy, but Linda needs to be redirected and not deal with phone calls. She lacks people skills and professionalism, not good for any kind of business.
My son has played indoor soccer since he was 5 years old via Dave Frommer, and so has my daughter. I didn’t expect this kind of rude behavior. Linda finally returned my call and left a voicemail to call her back, so I called back immediately. She impolitely cuts me off and stated «now’s not a good time, call back»; she sounded rushed and mean. I gave up at that point and had my husband intervene. I was completely over it and done with her, no need for my blood pressure to go up!
P. S. I will no longer enroll my son in this program with amateur coaches, and one was not paying attention at all. I’m surprised he wasn’t texting the entire time.

A great experience for us! Last year I enrolled my then-​7 year old for one week at the San Rafael location. My son didn’t know anyone else and was very nervous. Also– while he likes soccer, he’s not exactly a natural, so also was not feeling very confident in his abilities. He was immediately put at ease within five minutes of arriving at camp, and came home happy each day, and excited to share with me his new techniques. This year my son is taking a week long session at Piper Park in Larkspur and so far so good! Once again, he showed up solo without any known friends and he’s already at ease and excited to return. The only suggestion that would make it better is I find some of the basic logistical information sparse. I wasn’t sure, for example, whether there was a lunch option at Piper Park or where in Piper Park to go on the first day. It wasn’t a big deal, we just budgeted in some extra time for that.

I have 3 children, 2 boys and a girl, who have been taking Dave Fromer’s Soccer camp through elementary school years over the course of the past 14 years. My kids love the camp, the coaches, learning and playing soccer there and my husband and i have felt so lucky to find a camp for our children we feel is safe and our kids are having fun, learning and receiving personal attention. Our first and third kids went to this camp knowing no soccer, however our second child was involved in competitive soccer. The experience was wonderful for all 3 kids. The camp has top notch coaches who we credit for the skills our son has acquired to play marin fc through high school. Our older child continues to play inter-​murals in college and our youngest who just completed the camp last summer found the love of the game. This camp makes learning fun while developing valuable skills, also giving wonderful childhood memories that will last a lifetime. HIGHLY recommend and feel fortunate to have been able to be a part of it.

I love Dave Fromer Soccer camp. My son does too. He is ten now, but started learning soccer from Dave Fromer and his staff from the time he knew nothing of soccer until now, when he is quite adept. He has saved his own money to work with Dave’s coaches (so you know he loves it) and has participated in Dave’s camps, Soccer Programs, Mill Valley Soccer and Dave’s indoor Soccer League. I find Dave Fromer’s staff professional and great with kids of all skill levels, from those who know absolutely nothing, through pre-​professional. And most of all, the kids are taught just as much about being part of a team, tolerance for all level players, inclusiveness, and have a great time and a fun summer doing it.

A big disappointment.
If your child is already an experienced soccer player (meaning someone has taught him or her the game and the skills to play it), you might find Dave Fromer’s soccer camp worthwhile.
But if you’re looking for a program where your child can learn the game, have some fun in the process, and get better at it, then keep looking. This camp doesn’t provide that.
There’s not much teaching going on here. Kids who know the game are encouraged by the coaching staff. Kids who don’t are left to their own devices and (perhaps inadvertently) put in dangerous situations scrimmaging with much more aggressive and experienced players.
