The Submarine Port

I thought this place was ok until my very last visit and I had previously had been there only once. So my brother and I go to make an order; well two to be exact. The employee taking my order was completely rude! She kept cutting me off during ordering and when I got ready to make a seperate order I said «ok and for my next order» and then proceeded to speak my order she said «wait is this the same order?» «I said no it’s seperate» and very rudely responded «well you should’ve told me that.» I paused and said «um I said now for my next order…» I thought that was pretty clear. After I read my order I call out hello almost 10 times to confirm rather she got it or to find the total she ignored me so I pulled up and waited for her to come to the window to get my payment; she ignored me again and walked back and forth doing everything but take my money. When she finally came I gave her my card and before I could speak she closed the window in my face. So at this point I’m over it and I waited another 5 minutes for her to bring my debit card back before knocking on the window, and she came back and put a receipt and pen in my face without looking or greeting me and I looked at her and said «no I’m not signing, I want my money back.» She said we don’t do refunds I kindly said I don’t want the sandwich give me my money back” she said well why I said because your attitude is way to rude for me. She got the manager and we had words and he reluctantly gave me a refund and cancel my second order and I left… I will never come back I’ll go to a different sandwich shop!

Soooo, first of all I’m a super picky eater and it takes a lot to appease me, so I’ll give you the run down.
Service: actually decent, the girls at the register are actually nice. No snotty attitudes or rudeness. I actually think I was waited on by the owner once, and he was super nice even threw in a free soup.
Ambiance: typical sub joint, a few booths available for eating in.
Food: I absolutely love the corned beef sub with everything on it, and they actually warm it up if you want so it’s even more delectable. The bread is soft… which is different from my typical sub joint. As a disclaimer I have only had the corn beef sub… I can’t vouch for anything else. Well I did have the fries, but they r just okay. But the sub is the winner.
So if you want a warm corn beef sub on soft good sub bread, check em out!

They put ketchup on hot dogs here and they don’t have giardiniera for the subs! How can this happen in the Chicagoland area? I don’t get it! When I saw that I almost left to try another sub joint I bookmarked but I had to try a sub cause I love me a good sub and the place was filling up with customers so maybe it’s just a quirky south side joint that didn’t read the part about the no ketchup and giardiniera in the unwritten Chicagoland rule book about such things. Whew!
I’m going with three stars but for me the sub was really a 2 ½. The deli meats on the Port sub (Italian) were really very good but I wasn’t a fan of the really soft roll it came on. I like the bread with a little crunch and chew to it. They will put banana and jalapeño peppers on but it just isn’t the same without the real thing. I ate half and brought the other half home. My wife ate the rest and loved it. She even emailed me how much she liked it but I think it was to really tell me my leftovers were gone and I should not expect a half sub to be in the fridge when I got home.
If I’m ever in the area again I would like to try their roast beef & corned beef cause that’s what their sign says and fellow Unilocalers seem to like ‘em.

Ive seen this place on chicagos best and figured i give it a try i am from the northside but always say the southside has better food except this place i went there with a open mind the food was just subpar the port subs was decent besides the cheese but the cream of rice soup tasted like it was out of the can so i would say if you need a fast place to eat late it would get you buy but other then that look elsewhere.

I just visited The Submarine Port and I absolutely love it. I wanted to get a quick sandwich to tie me over. I had no idea I was going to find such an amazing place. The food was awesome. Best cream of broccoli ever! I ordered a turkey sub and I doubt I could make a fresher one home. The girls behind the counter were super sweet. The place is so beautiful with all the plants growing. It was spotless. They have a new customer for life!

This place is wonderful! The food is so fresh and homemade. The sandwiches are absolutely amazing. Try a slow-​cooked roast beef sandwich with mayo and jalapeños (my favorite). You will never go elsewhere for sandwiches. On Mondays, the soup of the day is chicken noodle, and it is to die for. This place is an absolute gem, the perfect blend of homemade comfort food.

What can I say about the slow cooked roast beef and corned beef with no additives or preservatives. Delicious! This is the place that started the garlic fries… amazing! Burgers made to order. I love the fresh veggies in everything.

The good taste better than the average fast food place but it’s also more money than the average fast food place.

I’m here right now bought a sandwich but I can’t get a cup of ice without being charged additional I think that’s crazy. I won’t be back I don’t like being the Nickel and dime.

Been going here since I was a kid. Good food at a reasonable price. Subs are good, soup is good, Garlic Fries are great (but bad that food that gives you heartburn hours later, but its worth it) …definitely give it a try.

I’ve been going to this place since I was a kid. I always order the same thing, ham and cheese w/​fries. I don’t go nearly as much, but it’s still high on the list of places when I get the urge for something good yet bad ;-)

New management or something. Food isn’t good anymore. I went a few times just to be sure. Pretty disappointing.

Best soup around, homemade fresh daily! Had the king combo. Fresh bread and ingredients, top notch sub! Garlic cheese fries damn good too!

The burgers are great, and the cheese fries are the best around. Absolutely awesome.
