Excellent Mexican restaurant. My family always chooses it as their favorite. This is a chain around virginia and have been to a couple others but we seem to always enjoy this location the most. Highly recommended if your looking for somewhere to sit down and eat at Westchester and are thinking Mexican(Westchester has a good collection of restaurants).

Went here for a friends birthday and was not disappointed. I had the potato shrimp enchilada which was very good. The other 2 people I went with had good food as well, but my last friend got one of the quesadillas and he did not like it at all. They also charged $ 1 extra for sour cream on the side which seemed kind of ridiculous to me. Other than that I was satisfied with my meal and it was a good price for the serving size.

Plaza Azteca is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Richmond. This particular location is located in the trendy West Chester Commons Shopping Center. This location is normally packed on the weekends, but so worth the wait. The staff is friendly and fast so even at capacity you won’t wait too long! Their margaritas are delicious and they are not stingy with the alcohol. My favorite margarita is The Pama Margarita, which is pomegranate flavored. The food here is just as good. I normally order the beef chimichangas or the Burrito Mex. Both are flavorful and spicy just how I like it. Plaza Azteca uses jasmine rice, which is absolutely amazing! They by far have the best rice and beans. This simple dish is elevated with the jasmine rice. The portions are equivalent to the price so you are definitely getting your money’s worth! The staff here is so nice. They are always equipped with a smile. They definitely want to ensure you are happy with your dining experience. Whenever I having a chimichanga craving, I head to Plaza Azteca for great food and service!

Terrible service, mediocre food. Our waiter literally forgot that we were there. I had to go find someone to bring our food out. Then, again, I had to go find the manager to get our check. I get that they were a little busy, but that is totally unacceptable. Considering the price and how bland and boring our dishes were, I’m not likely to be back here. There are far better Mexican options within a short distance. Try El Cerro Azul or Tres Machos for a superior experience all around. I don’t recommend Plaza Azteca.

It seemed all they did was scrape wooden obnoxious chairs across the floor. Table side guacamole was good. Good atmosphere, lots of glass windows, lively, except for the darn loud chairs! The OMG Nachos & the combo we got were good. Nice place.

Our lacrosse team ate here last night and at least 5 girls had food poisoning. Avoid if you are in a group larger than 5!

Slooooooooooowwwww service on Sunday! They have recently redone the menu with some new dishes but the old school Mexican restaurant a la cart staples are not there. Azteca soup is the best and a good deal at 5.99 Missed being able to order and speak to my waiter in Spanish as our waiter did not know any which was disappointing.

I’ve been here many times but tonight was the best I’ve experienced so far. At the recommendation of our server, I ordered the enchiladas suizas and they were to die for. Large portions with enough for leftovers. Their salsa and chips are also always fresh and tasty.

My meal was good with the exception of the dessert of Fried Ice Cream. The chimicangas were freshly made with moist and tender chicken. The rice and beans were flavorful. But when they brought out the fried ice I could see from across the room that there was a problem. The dessert looked like a coconut, yes it was THAT brown. The coating was an overcooked dough that pulled away from a melting ice cream ball. My advise is you might really enjoy the overpriced entre but leave the desserts alone.

We eat here often and never have serious complaints. The food is consistent and tasty. It’s not overly greasy and the portions are reasonable. It may not be traditional Mexican but it’s still a decent menu with some modern choices. The chips are AWESOME! They’re always fresh and warm. If the red salsa is too mild you can ask for a hotter salsa for dipping. $ 8 for table side guac makes me mad because it’s SO good but SO expensive. You can ask for a side of guac(specify«not tableside»!) for $ 2.25. Sometimes they do have table side guac as special for like $ 5. The service is average with some servers being great and some being slow and/or hard to communicate with. Food is served hot and fast. Drinks from the bar can be slow though. I wouldn’t pay much attention to the negative reviews because there are always quite a bit of people eating here. It’s often busy or has a wait list.

Cheap Mexican food. Not very good, but I guess this passes for Mexican in VA. Having lived in places like California and a Arizona, maybe I’m spoiled, but this wouldn’t pass in those states…

Wow! Just wow! And not in a good way. Shredded seat in our booth. Baseboards falling off and holes in the table. Menu has changed since our last visit and not for the better. I need to find a way to remove this horrid coat of grease from the inside of my mouth. Do yourself a favor and just go somewhere else!

This would have gotten a higher rating, but the service stunk. We were two hours waiting on out check… and no, they were not busy. The food was great though. I had the Mex burrito with chicken. Very tasty; juicy and flavorful chicken. Huge portions — too much for one mean. Nice drink selection, too. Too bad their wait staff is so sub-par.

My friends and I have been here numerous times, the last time we were here they hardly had any of the beers the advertised. The food tasted pretty bad, and the cheese they put on your nacho cheese items tastes exactly like Tostidos nacho cheese, that’s not a good thing. This place is overly expensive for the crap they serve. The staff is nice at least but man is the food bad. Not to mention their top shelf drinks are insanely expensive, if memory serves correctly almost $ 20 for a top shelf drink in a glass that was maybe 12 oz? You couldn’t even tell there was tequila in it! This place is the epitome of bad.

What a terrible experience. My husband and I both ordered the Burrito Fajita. It was served to us within about 2 minutes of ordering and after tasting it, we knew why. It was dry, the chicken and steak was tough and it tasted like it had been microwaved. We complained to the manager who seemed irritated about being pulled away from the basketball game on TV. He replied that he had been the manager there for 5 years and that’s how this meal had always been. He then proceeded to walk away leaving the server apologizing for the rudeness. This will be our last visit. There are so many great Mexican Restaurants within a few miles of Plaza Azteca. That is of course unless you prefer microwaved, processed Mexican food and outrageous arrogance from a manager who seems bothered by your patronage.

Loved everything about this place! We got there around 5:30 on a Saturday night. Surprisingly we were seated right away. The booth was nice and roomy as was the whole restaurant. Our waiter was very pleasant. We took a few minutes to read over the menu. I decided on a combo. It consisted of a taco, enchilada, chile relleno, and rice. It came out super fast! The portions are huge! Everything was delicious. Even after I was full I kept eating because it was that good! I also ordered a margarita. It definitely hit the spot. The restaurant was also very clean. We were in and out in less than an hour on a Saturday night! I was completely impressed. I will definitely be visiting again.

Tasteless food and waiter could not communicate in English well. Beef tacos did not taste fresh and pork burrito didn’t have much flavor. We have been here before, but figure the restaurant has changed hands + gone downhill.

By and large the best chain restaurant for Mexican and the best Plaza Azteca of the Plaza Aztecas. I’ve also been to one on Broad, Midlo, down in OBX just to name a few and this one just seems to have it’s $h!t together. The quacomole is perfection and just as I had requested; extra lime with lots of onions, lots of cinlantro. DELICIOUS! The store is also very well kept the only down side is the lay out. Something seems a bit off in there and I’m not sure what it is. I wanna say that the I don’t like the hostess stand being so far from the door. Also the last time that I was there, there were a gaggle of girls all huddled around the waittress stand/hostess stand obviously clucking away about something, typical restaurant bad habits it was pretty amazing the amount of them huddled around there though. I will be back! Again and again. The price is right, the food is muy caliente and always fantastic. I swear they aren’t making quacmole with avocados but rather heavenly butter. LOVE

Wondering about all of the lowly rated reviews below. We’ve eaten here three times and each time we have remarked how the food is better than all of the Mexican restaurants in the area. The restaurant is quiet large with a family atmosphere, there is also have a bar area. We enjoyed the salsa and chips. I ordered chicken wings for starters I would skip those in the future. I loved the fajitas.
