This was honestly a really fun run. I didn’t really know what to expect, since I believe 2013 was their first year doing this event. All of my friends that I went with decided that we would do it again next year. First off, the run is in mid-December, but it was a surprisingly mild evening… mild yet RAINY. I’ve never done a run in the rain before, much less at NIGHT, in DECEMBER. But it was fun. So beware: the event is rain or shine… or snow. We did witness one fallen runner with a bloody face, which was kind of disturbing. The pavement was wet and I guess she slipped. So beware that you are in fact running at night at your own risk! As for the neighborhood, the houses were all decorated fun and the people that live there were out on their lawns having bon-fires, drinking, and cheering us on. It really gave the impression that this is a fun neighborhood to live in. All the families were out having a good time instead of being Scrooge’s inside their homes while a few thousand(yes, thousand…5,000 to be exact) runners closed down their streets for a night. The one thing that was annoying about this race… ok I get that it’s a fun run. It’s non-timed… families running with strollers, people stopping to take pictures… that’s all well and good. At one point in the run where there were a double-back part of the course(the right side of the road was going one direction and the left side was going the other) this one woman decided she didn’t want to run to the end of the street to the turnaround point so she cut across a bunch of runners, to go on the other side of the street, almost causing a huge pile up. It’s a FUNRUN. If you can’t run the 4 miles, then WALK the four miles. That was just annoying that because she didn’t feel like running the whole course she almost caused someone to get hurt. Overall yes I think we will be doing this again. I got a handful of sugar cookies about 1.5 miles in(although we definitely needed water after that…) and the finisher’s medal they had at the end was cute. Oh and you get to high-five Santa when you cross the finish!
