Friday is Late Night and we offer BBQ/​Hot Wing Baskets and Mini Beef Sliders. (11:00 — 7:00)

History

Established in 2009.

We moved to Midland some years ago and after many failed attempts to satisfy the yearning of our (Chicago) hometown foods (Chicago-​style Hot Dogs, Gyros, Italian Beef Sandwiches, etc.) we decided to venture out and share with West Texas the best Taste of Chicago possible, so here we are.

We are Chicago-​native turned West Texan of the past 10+ years. Chicago is known for its good food, skyscraping buildings, Navy Pier and a night life; all of which are well missed being here in Midland. While we could not do much about most of those missed associations, we realized we could help in the good food department, which is where we are now… Doing our best to give West Texas the best Taste of Chicago possible.

I love this place. I’ve been at least 10 times now, usually dine in but they have a drive through. The food is fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Most importantly, in my opinion, the owner as well as the employees care about your experience. Trust me, go for lunch, wear your big pants, and order the house special.

Literally just walked out of this restaurant, full and happy! Mr. O is the man and the food is on point. I spent a lot of time in and around Chicago with work and I am happy to say that I felt like I was eating authentic Chicago style food in west tx. Thank you guys for having this place and helping me remember the good times I have had in the Windy City!

I’m very happy that I find this place. Its unfortunate that they are not open all day long… Mon-​Thr 11 – 3:30 and Friday 11 – 7 and close on Sat. Sun. The meat on the Gyro is very tasty. I had the Chicago Dog and Ruben and all were great.

Place is great. We Tried a few things: Chicago dog, Reuben, the gyro and fries. Stunned how great the gyro meat was. House fries well done and Rueben sandwich really tasty. Too bad it’s not open weekends or for dinner (except Friday’s). It’s not cheap, but great quality.

Tasty food, friendly staff, laid back atmosphere. Sandwiches are great, can’t wait to try their hot dogs. The place can be hard to find and is out of the way, but worth it. They also deliver!

It get’s really packed during lunch, so come early. There are only a few tables. We came on Friday, got the Hot Italian beef Special… it’s kinda pricey for their combos. It was not as good as I thought it would be. Their hand cut fries are very good, but greasy.
The inside of the place is very hot and muggy, not sure if they had their AC on or if it was just everyone stuffed in one place. The soda machine was giving everyone issues… so it was out of order by the time we went back to get a refill. I don’t know if I will be back, if I do I would probably try one of their Gyro sandwiches.

I really, really wanted to like Taste of Chicago… just can’t recommend it. Love the Second City, with great food and culture. TOC is a nice space, very clean and airy. A few Bears, Bulls and Oprah pics (Navy Pier, too?) on the wall to whisk you away to the Windy City as well.
Positives: dogs were definitely Vienna Beef (snappy casing, that deep red color) and there were the requisite neon-​green relish, celery salt, sport peppers, chopped onions, and whole dill pickle. Pretty cheap. Fries were decent.
Negatives: Awful, inedible poppyseed bun (stale) on the dog. CHOPPED tomatoes — not sliced — never seen that before on any Chicago dog I’ve eaten. And the Italian beef sandwich? Another awful — not even a decent torpedo roll and the «roast beef» was thinly sliced deli meat in a salty au jus. Just a disappointment.
And I’ve been to Hot Doug’s, Portillo’s, Wrigley Field, Gino’s East… this was definitely NOT Chicago-​style eats. Not even close. Sorry, save your money.

I ventured here today since I was craving a chili dog. The Chili dogs are ok but they have an extensive menu so i’ll definitely go back and try something else. I think I’m going to go with the Chicago dog which is a Pork hot dog served on hot dog bun with mustard, chili, shredded cheese, and onion for 2.89. The fries are really fresh and tasty and I loved the lemonade also. They also have free wifi! The price for my chili dog, fries, and lemonade was 5.79…very reasonable!

Are you a fan of hot dogs (chicago-​style), gyros, italian sausage, and other yummy foods? Then this is the place to go! I have not been disappointed with my meals when I’ve visited and now they even include a free cookie with your meal. Yum!
The price is *very* reasonable and they have all kinds of specials. For example, right now they are running a «winter special» where you can get a cup of chili for about $ 1.50. I highly recommend the Gyro or the Chicago Style hot dog (and be sure to get the chili cheese fries!).
The place isn’t fancy, but clean and simple. The cool thing is that the owners have really gone out of their way to make the decorations all about Chicago too! You can be sure to see MIke Ditka on the wall alongside Michael Jordan and other various Chicago things. In my opinion, the food and pleasant atmosphere make this place worth the drive to get here.
